The Biden administration is seeking to build support among Arab states for a peacekeeping force that would deploy to Gaza to fill the power vacuum once the Israel-Hamas war ends, according to officials who have spoken to the FT.
Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Morocco are considering the initiative. Other states including Saudi Arabia have rejected putting boots on the ground fearing being seen as complicit with Israel, but are open to an international force operating in the strip.
The White House has made clear it is not willing to deploy US troops as part of any peacekeeping force, according to several western and Arab officials briefed on the discussions.
