Far-left Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) deleted a tweet posted on Monday where she appeared to confuse Memorial Day with Veterans Day, leading to backlash and mockery on social media.
As the Daily Caller reports, the Muslim Congresswoman and Somalian immigrant wrote a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) declaring that “On Memorial Day, we honor the heroic men and women who served our country. We owe them more than our gratitude – they have more than earned access to quality mental health services, job opportunities, housing assistance, and the benefits they were promised.”
By referencing veterans who are still alive, in the context of providing veterans’ benefits, Omar’s post was quickly criticized for misunderstanding the purpose of Memorial Day; while Veterans Day is about honoring veterans who returned from foreign wars, Memorial Day is about honoring those who died while serving.
