Five GOP Senators have helped pass a resolution by the Senate that would end Trump’s power to declare tariffs against Brazil. The House will need to affirm the resolution, which it cannot do until January. The resolution is expected to ultimately lead to blocking Trump from using tariffs completely.
The five votes came from Susan Collins of Main, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Rand Paul of Kentucky, Thom Tillis of North Carolina, and finally Mitch McConnell. The most disconcerting vote is Rand Paul, who, like Thomas Massie, has failed to realize we are in the middle of a civil war. Paul chose economic autistic “principles” lead him to empower a party hellbent on destroying the republic. Tariffs are NOT being used for economic reasons, they are being used geopolitically.
Few things from President Donald Trump’s second term have been as polarizing as his use of tariffs in trade negotiations.
And despite the best efforts of Vice President J.D. Vance to keep that tariff train rolling, just five Republican defections in the Senate appear to have been enough to derail at least one major tariff target.
According to Fox News, those five lawmakers have thrown a wrench into the president’s trade strategy by joining Senate Democrats.
Democrats were looking to end Trump’s use of emergency powers to implement 50 percent tariffs on Brazil…
