Democratic Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass was caught off guard Wednesday when Sky News reporter David Blevins confronted her with questions regarding the deadly wildfires sweeping through Southern California.

Bass, who just returned from a high-profile trip to Africa for the inauguration of Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama, remained silent while Blevins asked questions that challenged her leadership and her decisions.

“Do you owe citizens an apology for being absent while their homes were burning? Do you regret cutting the fire department budget by millions of dollars madame mayor?” Blevins asked Bass as she stared at the reporter. “Have you nothing to say today? Have you absolutely nothing to say to the citizens today?”

Mayor to the stars Karen Bass was on blast Wednesday for taking a trip to Africa while Los Angeles went up in flames. But while many in the press noted her absence, Hollywood celebrities, often quick to critique conservative politicians for their failings, remained mum as they evacuated their homes in advance of the rapidly approaching flames. This was a far cry from their treatment of Ted Cruz in 2021 when the Senator was out of the US while Texans suffered a major power outage.

Senator Cruz, who represents the people of Texas in the US Senate but has no authority over the state’s power grid, went to Cancun during a storm-caused power outage. He was slammed in the press and by celebrities on social media.

Leave it to MSNBC’s Joy Reid to indulge her Trump derangement with no restraint, even in the middle of an ongoing disaster. Such was the case when she and Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA) disgustingly politicized the horrific Los Angeles fires in order to score cheap dunks on President-Elect Donald Trump.

“We have a couple we let loose over there. We’re trying to get as many as we can out.”

As wildfires ravage Los Angeles, horse owners are being forced to flee with their animals to protect them from the encroaching flames, adding to the overwhelming chaos as authorities respond to the crisis.

Footage from Fox 11 Los Angeles captured the scene in the Eaton Canyon area, showing two people leading their horses down the street as fires surrounded the area. Fox correspondent Gina Silva reported on the woman working to rescue her horses from the flames, as both she and the man were seen saving their animals in the smoke and falling embers.

“We have a couple we let loose over there. We’re trying to get as many as we can out,” the man explained. The woman added, “There’s a bunch in there still,” while wearing a mask with flames visible in the background. When asked if she had ever faced a situation like this, the woman replied, “Yeah, I’ve rescued before.”

“You’re going to be caught, you’re going to be arrested, and you’re going to be prosecuted,” Sheriff Luna said at a news conference.

The sheriff of Los Angeles County has issued a stern warning to looters who are exploiting the unprecedented California wildfires to commit crimes, vowing to make arrests and pursue prosecutions. Authorities have reported at least two arrests have been made thus far. Sheriff Robert Luna condemned the looters taking advantage of abandoned homes during a Wednesday press briefing.

“It’s always sad when I have to say this, but part of our responsibility is to make sure nobody loots or steals from our community members who are already being impacted,” Luna said at a news conference. “I’m sad to report, we’ve made two arrests this morning for looting already. So if you are thinking about coming into any of these areas to steal from our residents, I’m going to tell you something. You’re going to be caught, you’re going to be arrested, and you’re going to be prosecuted.”

Sheriff Luna demanded people “stay out of [impacted] areas,” explaining “it’s only for emergency workers and people who live here.”

When Karen Bass was elected Mayor of Los Angeles in 2022, voter turnout was around 46%. As a side note, here is her opponent, Rick Caruso, in 2022. Caruso was a former Republican who switched parties because, well… it’s Los Angeles.

Instead, Los Angelinos (or a majority of 46% of them) voted for Karen Bass, a Democrat Congresswoman who was on Joe Biden’s shortlist for vice president. Bass rushed home from a trip to Ghana (which she took knowing LA was experiencing record-breaking winds) to deal with the wildfire crisis. Here, she is addressing reporters.

Whoops, wrong tweet. That’s Bass blasting Ted Cruz, who is not a state official, “abandoning folks” when it snowed in Texas that one time.

California wildfire season should be over. So why is L.A. burning?– www.sciencenews.org Source Link Excerpt:

Unusually dry conditions and hurricane-force seasonal winds are fueling multiple fast-moving and destructive wildfires in Los Angeles County. Gusts that reached over 145 kilometers per hour (90 miles per hour) quickly drove the blazes into urban areas, forcing more than 100,000 people to evacuate from their homes and killing at least two people as of January 8.

The largest of the blazes, known as the Palisades fire, erupted the morning of January 7 on the west side of Los Angeles and has since burned more than 6,400 hectares (15,800 acres) and destroyed around 1,000 structures. The second largest, called the Eaton fire, ignited near Pasadena that night and had burned more than 4,290 hectares by the next morning. A third blaze, the Hurst fire near Sylmar, has burned more than 200 hectares.
