In a significant medical breakthrough, A 21-year-old man from Laurelton, Long Island, Sebastien Beauzile, has become the first person in New York State to be cured of sickle cell anemia through groundbreaking Lyfgenia gene therapy.

Administered at Cohen Children’s Medical Center, this innovative treatment offers new hope for those suffering from the debilitating disease.

Beauzile’s battle with sickle cell anemia began at just four months old, marked by frequent hospitalizations due to extreme pain crises.

Describing the agony as unbearable, he faced a lifetime of challenges with little respite. But in 2024, everything changed when he underwent Lyfgenia gene therapy, a revolutionary treatment developed by Bluebird Bio and FDA-approved in December 2023.

Lyfgenia works by using the patient’s own stem cells, modifying them genetically to produce functional hemoglobin, and reintroducing them into the bloodstream.

A 54-year-old veteran from Ohio has been denied a life-saving heart transplant operation because he refused a Covid “vaccine.”

Ken Long was diagnosed with congestive heart failure nearly a year ago.

He became ill during a family vacation to Texas, his wife, Christina, told Ohio Advocates for Medical Freedom.

Long was eventually sent to The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati for a heart transplant.

He was set to receive “the next heart that came in so long as his body was otherwise healthy,” she said.

When the tests came back, they showed “he was in perfect health other than a very sick heart.”

However, when Long was asked to sign consent forms, hospital staff told the family he would have to get a Covid “vaccine.”

Long immediately refused to take the injection.

Vatican says the pope has a “polymicrobial respiratory tract infection.” What is that?– abcnews.go.com

LONDON — Vatican authorities said Monday that Pope Francis has a complex infection in his respiratory system and will require more targeted drug treatment. Officials said the 88-year-old pope is suffering from a “polymicrobial respiratory tract infection,” but gave no further details on the severity of his illness or what would change in his treatment. Here’s a look at the Pope’s latest diagnosis and what his treatment could involve.

Essentially, it means there’s a mix of bacteria, viruses, fungi or parasites growing in someone’s lungs.

“Often times, people will get a bronchitis or an airway infection and that can often start a cascade of multiple problems, including infections in the lungs,” said Dr. Maor Sauler, who specializes in adult pulmonary and critical care medicine at Yale University’s School of Medicine. He said such issues were common in older people whose immune systems might be weaker or had complex health issues.

“It likely means he has more than one organism in his lungs,” Sauler said, explaining that the pope’s doctors might have to adjust his treatment to make sure the antibiotics attack all the various organisms.

California Removes 850,000 People From Health Care Plan – Newsweek

Since the expiration of COVID-19 related health care guarantees, public insurance coverage in California has dropped by over 850,000.

The nationwide “disenrollment,” or “unwinding,” process that began last year has seen Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) enrollment in the Golden State fall from around 14.3 million to just over 13.4 million over the 18 months leading up to October 2024, according to KFF, a health policy research nonprofit.

The change in California’s enrollment rate (6 percent) is less drastic than that seen in other similarly populous states such as Florida and Texas. KFF research shows that its overall disenrollment rate—the number of those who were unable to renew coverage after being disenrolled—of 19 percent, sits below the national average of 31 percent.

However, the high figure still raises concerns about the health care of nearly 1 million Californians. Studies have also found that many disenrollments occurred not due to a lack of eligibility, but rather confusion around the post-COVID unwinding process, state failures to communicate these details to individuals, as well as procedural issues that prevented many from renewing their coverage.

Bird Flu Could Be ‘More Catastrophic Than COVID’– www.dailysignal.com

Health officials in Louisiana announced Monday the first bird flu death in the United States. The elderly individual, who had underlying medical conditions, was exposed to the virus from a backyard flock and wild birds.

There have been 66 reported cases of bird flu in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. While the risk remains law, the CDC’s former director has urged Americans to take the virus seriously.

Robert Redfield, who led the CDC during the first Trump administration, spoke with The Daily Signal last year about bird flu. He predicted bird flu, also known as H5N1, would be “much more catastrophic than the COVID pandemic.”

Redfield served on a nonpartisan commission on China and COVID-19, which last year released a report, “Holding China Accountable for Its Role in the Most Catastrophic Pandemic of Our Time: COVID-19.” He spoke to The Daily Signal about its recommendations in July.

Canadian doctors have suggested killing euthanasia victims by taking their organs, according to multiple reports, whistleblowers, and public talks. Medical freedom advocates are documenting emerging ties between “medical assistance in dying” (MAID) and organ harvesting.

“The best use of my organs, if I’m going to receive a medically assisted death, might be to not first kill me and then retrieve my organs, but to have my mode of death — as we medically consider death now — to be to retrieve my organs,” said Rob Sibbald, an ethicist of the London Health Sciences Centre in Ontario.

Sibbald spoke on “Threats to the Concept of Brain Death: Ethical Reflections” at the Critical Care Canada Forum in November 2018. The event was sponsored by Canadian Blood Services, a tissue and organ donation group; the Trillium Gift of Life Network, which is “responsible for delivering and coordinating organ and tissue donation and transplantation across the province” of Ontario; and the Canadian Donation and Transplantation Research Program, which hopes to “increase the availability of transplants.”

Other Canadian doctors have publicly embraced “death by donation,” and a study came out earlier this year exploring euthanasia programs such as MAID as a means of organ harvesting. Canada legalized euthanasia in 2016, and since then the number of Canadians using MAID to kill themselves has significantly increased.

China’s Hospitals Report Surge in HMVP Respiratory Virus that Causes Cold-Like Symptoms in Most People– legalinsurrection.com

China is currently experiencing a significant outbreak of human metapneumovirus (HMPV), a respiratory virus that was first identified in 2001 and which causes cold-like symptoms in most people.

However, the very young and elderly can be hit hard, as well as those with weakened immune systems. So, China’s hospitals are reporting a significant uptick in cases of HMVP infections as people seek relief from severe symptoms.

China is experiencing a surge in cases of human metapneumovirus (HMPV), leading to overcrowded hospitals and raising public concern about a potential epidemic. The outbreak coincides with the winter season, which typically sees an increase in respiratory illnesses due to colder weather and more indoor activities facilitating the spread of viruses.

El Financiero, BBC News, The Independent, Marca, ABP News, and Newsweek reported on the surge in HMPV patients in China, among other news outlets.

In response to the rising cases, the Chinese government announced measures to curb the increase of respiratory diseases. These measures include constant monitoring of cases, the adoption of masks, social distancing, and disinfection of public spaces.

“It is safe to travel to China,” said Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs during a press conference, reassuring that both locals and tourists can feel safe traveling in China. Mao emphasized that the current situation is a normal seasonal rise in respiratory infections and not a cause for alarm.
