Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson delivered her first State of the City address on Tuesday, but what was supposed to be a defining moment for the newly elected leader quickly drew criticism after a rocky start marked by technical glitches and visible confusion.

Wilson, who has been in office for roughly six weeks, opened her remarks by greeting the audience and acknowledging the length of the speech ahead.

“Good morning. How are you all doing today? OK. Are you ready for this? I don’t think I’ve ever talked for as long as I’m about to talk, so we’ll see how it goes,” she said.

The DOJ said Yaoning Sun had acted as an illegal agent “while serving as the campaign advisor for a political candidate who was elected to the city council of a Southern California city.”

A man with ties to the mayor of a Los Angeles County city has been sentenced to four years in prison for “acting as an illegal agent of the People’s Republic of China.”

The Department of Justice announced on February 10 that 65-year-old Yaoning “Mike” Sun, of Chino Hills, California had been sentenced to 48 months in federal prison, saying that Sun had acted as an illegal agent “while serving as the campaign advisor for a political candidate who was elected to the city council of a Southern California city.”

Of the projected $3.3 billion surplus, approximately $569 million would be deposited into the state’s Climate Commitment Account.

On Monday, the Washington State House Democrats voted to raid $4 billion from the law enforcement and firefighter pension plan to cover their deficit caused by out-of-control spending. Democrats in the Washington State House of Representatives have approved House Bill 2034, authorizing the transfer of approximately $2.5 billion, with projections of up to $4 billion over time, from the Law Enforcement Officers’ and Fire Fighters’ (LEOFF) Plan 1 retirement system. The legislation passed on a 55–39 vote, with every Republican voting against it.

Wilson’s parents, both professors in New York, were helping cover childcare costs while her husband was “voluntarily” unemployed.

Socialist Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson’s campaign was fined by the Seattle Ethics and Elections Commission for failing to properly disclose more than $10,000 in campaign-related childcare expenses, expenses which were paid for by her parents. Her husband was “voluntarily” unemployed.

Virginia governor-elect Abigail Spanberger has appointed Stanley Meador the next Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security for the state.

While serving as Special Agent in Charge at the FBI Richmond Field Office, Meador oversaw a since-redacted memo that targeted traditional Catholics.

In a December 4 announcement, Spanberger’s office cited Meador’s decades of service with the FBI and said he had the expertise to make Virginia a place where “every Virginian can safely thrive.”

“Today, I am proud to announce the appointment of Stanley M. Meador to serve as our next Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security,” Governor-elect Spanberger stated. “I know Mr. Meador’s decades of service to our country and our Commonwealth will bring the expertise necessary to protect our citizens, support the brave men and women of law enforcement, and make sure Virginia is a place where every Virginian can safely thrive — no matter their zip code.”

“I am deeply honored and humbled to be nominated as Virginia’s Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security. I’m grateful for the trust placed in me by Governor-elect Spanberger,” Meador said in the announcement.

Washington, D.C., Councilwoman Janeese Lewis George played the political fundraising game so well in her mayoral campaign’s opening days that the district’s campaign finance system couldn’t handle it.

Given the “unprecedented size” of her initial fundraising filing, Lewis George’s campaign needed to split up their filings because the campaign website couldn’t accept the large report. The councilwoman’s campaign said that they spent “dozens of hours” manually uploading thousands of donor records because of the website’s error. They will later upload an amended report to include more donors.

The socialist has been a prolific fundraiser in the opening days of her campaign, backed by a well of D.C. grassroots support and the city’s matching funds system. She broke the record for qualifying for the city’s public financing system in just a few hours. Mayor Muriel Bowser set the record in 2022, but it took her two weeks.

The new report showed the campaign drew $188,591 from D.C. residents in its first 10 days, with 2,567 unique district donors. D.C.’s 5-to-1 match will give Lewis George nearly $1 million in matching funds, on top of $30,000 in outside contributions and an $80,000 grant.

According to Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson, “Access to affordable, healthy food is a basic human right.” This is why she refuses to “allow giant grocery chains to stomp all over communities and close stores at will.” She claims this will “leave behind food deserts.” This is why she will “explore public option grocery stores.”

There are so many things wrong with this statement that it’s hard to know where to begin.

Firstly, I don’t ever recall a time in human history when the government was able to adequately provide food for the entire population. Do you? I didn’t think so. That’s because whenever the government attempts to take over the food supply, people always seem to starve. Weird how that is.

What will never be fully comprehensible is why there are so many people who hate everything about America yet still wish to live here. Not only that, but they seem determined to turn it into the countries they ran away from. Something does not add up.

Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud claims he “disavows the term melting pot” because his city is not a “soup where everything looks the same.” They are a “salad bowl,” if you will, where “the lettuce is lettuce, the tomatoes are tomatoes, and the cucumbers are cucumbers, and they all complement each other.”

Per new polling reported by Gallup, religion is no longer important to most Americans.

In response to the question “Is religion an important part of your daily life?” 49% said yes.

Ten years ago, in 2015, 66% responded affirmatively.

Gallup notes that this 17-point drop “ranks among the largest Gallup has recorded in any country over any 10-year period since 2007.”

This departure from religion has partisan characteristics.

NYU students call for ‘sanctuary campus’ and ‘race-based scholarships’ at university senate rally

A New York University (NYU) student group organized a protest rally on Thursday, demanding that school officials declare NYU a “sanctuary campus” and supporting “race-based scholarships.”

The Nov. 13 protest, organized by Students for a Democratic Society during a university senate meeting, also advocated for many other left-wing positions, including a call for the school to reject President Donald Trump’s compact on higher education, protections for transgender-identifying students, and an increase in black student enrollment.

Despite all the uproar surrounding the ascension of socialist star Zohran Mamdani to mayor-elect of the largest city in America, democratic socialism’s capture of city government, not just New York City’s, is years in the making.

Scores of candidates backed by the country’s de facto socialist party, the Democratic Socialists of America, have wooed their way into local office with similar promises of government-run grocery stores, free childcare, fareless public transportation, and rent freezes.

Notably, a third of the 12-person Portland City Council are active DSA members, all of whom assumed office in January. There, the “socialists are setting the agenda.”
