Donald Trump

President Donald Trump signed an executive order that effectively ends “independent” boards, commissions and agencies that began to be created 90 years ago under then-President Franklin Roosevelt.

The move effectively cuts off unaccountable administrative power from most government agencies that are currently populated with such entities.

Trump said in his order, “These agencies issue rules and regulations that cost billions of dollars and implicate some of the most controversial policy matters, and they do so without the review of the democratically elected President. They also spend American tax dollars and set priorities without consulting the President, while setting their own performance standards.”

President Trump signed an executive order Tuesday affirmatively pulled all the “independent” boards, commissions, and agencies that have proliferated since the Roosevelt administration under the management of the White House. The order, titled Ensuring Accountability for All Agencies – The White House, states, “For the Federal Government to be truly accountable to the American people, officials who wield vast executive power must be supervised and controlled by the people’s elected President.”

In an informational document about the executive order, shared with The Washington Post, White House officials referred to “so called independent agencies,” citing the FTC, FCC and SEC as examples of agencies over which Trump is seeking to exert more control. A White House official, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss the objectives of the new executive order, said it aims to rein in “rogue agencies.”

“These agencies issue rules and regulations that cost billions of dollars and implicate some of the most controversial policy matters, and they do so without the review of the democratically elected President,” White House officials wrote in the document. “They also spend American tax dollars and set priorities without consulting the President, while setting their own performance standards.”

The new order has several points. First, it does not apply to the Federal Reserve. I think Trump’s strategists believe that having the White House take control of the Fed might be a bridge too far.

This order shall not apply to the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System or to the Federal Open Market Committee in its conduct of monetary policy.  This order shall apply to the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System only in connection with its conduct and authorities directly related to its supervision and regulation of financial institutions.

The formerly independent agencies must clear all regulations through OMB.

Moreover, all executive departments and agencies, including so-called independent agencies, shall submit for review all proposed and final significant regulatory actions to the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) within the Executive Office of the President before publication in the Federal Register.

Volodymyr Zelensky, the Prime Minister of Ukraine, has accused U.S. President Donald Trump of being trapped by a bubble of “misinformation.” Trump has responded that Zelensky is a dictator who should be more grateful to the American people than he is.

The jabs were followed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressing frustration at Zelensky’s alleged duplicity in promising to introduce legislation to pay back some of the billions of dollars given to it by the U.S. only to later announce publicly Ukraine rejected the request.

Summary of the day so far

It’s 8.30pm in Kyiv, 9.30pm in Moscow and 2.30pm in Washington. Here’s a recap of the latest developments:

  • US president Donald Trump launched a fresh attack on Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday, calling him a “dictator” who had “done a terrible job”. Trump warned Zelenskyy that he “better move fast” or he “won’t have a country left”, and accused him – without evidence – of benefiting from continuing US financial and military support, suggesting he had an interest in prolonging the war rather than seeking its end. Trump’s latest comments cast serious doubt on future US aid to Ukraine and mark the most explicit threat yet to end the war on terms favourable to Moscow.

  • Trump’s latest Truth Social post came after Zelenskyy accused the US leader of being “trapped” in a Russian “disinformation bubble”. The Ukrainian president, in a combative press conference in Kyiv, said Trump was pushing “a lot of disinformation coming from Russia”. He accused Washington of bringing Russia out of global isolation through bilateral talks earlier this week in Riyadh, and rejected any suggestion of making broad concessions to Russia. Zelenskyy also disputed Trump’s comments that most of Ukraine’s support comes from the US.

The District Judges now routinely shutting down President Donald Trump’s executive actions come from a class of judges that is 60 percent Democrat, and much of that is thanks to a floury of last-minute appointments by President Joe Biden.

These appointments could have been reduced significantly had republicans done more to slow down the appointment process.

Before Democrats surrendered control of Congress and the White House to Republicans in January, they celebrated the fact that Joe Biden had put more judges on the federal bench than any recent president in a single term.

“Judges shape our lives,” Biden said on social media in December, touting the confirmation of his 235th judicial nominee and what he called “the legacy I’ll leave with the men and women I’ve appointed.”

That legacy has become even more important for Democrats now that the courts are their best chance of thwarting President Donald Trump’s efforts to significantly downsize and reshape the federal government in ways that are testing his legal authority to do so.

Nearly six out of 10 full-time federal district judges – the first judicial layer to consider the growing number of lawsuits against Trump’s actions – have now been appointed by Democratic presidents, according to the Brookings Institution. At the start of Biden’s presidency, the appointments were nearly evenly divided after Trump picked almost as many judges as Biden later got confirmed.

At the next level of judicial scrutiny – the appeals courts – the number of full-time judges appointed by Democratic presidents has pulled even with those appointed by Republicans.

But while Biden got to fill one Supreme Court vacancy, his choice – Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson – did not change the ideological makeup of the court as she replaced Justice Stephen Breyer, who had been appointed by President Bill Clinton, a Democrat.

In a recent press conference, President Donald Trump suggests Russia, China, and the U.S. could get together and come to some form of agreement that will all three nations to lower their overall military budget.

Trump exuberantly added, “President Putin and I agreed that we were going to be (de-nuclearizing) in a very big way … we already have so many you could destroy the world 50 times over, 100 times over.”

The proliferation of lawsuits and suspensions of orders by district judges across the country has created what can perhaps be described as an all-out war between the power of the judiciary and the power of the executive.

The showdown is between President Donald Trump and what is overwhelmingly a Democrat-appointed District-level judgeship willing to take as unprecedented actions as the President himself is taking.

Here Are All The Major Lawsuits Against Trump And Musk: Trump Administration Asks Supreme Court To Let It Fire Ethics Official – Forbes

Feb. 16 The Treasury Department asked the Supreme Court to throw out a lower court ruling that temporarily blocked Trump’s firing of government ethics watchdog Hampton Dellinger, the AP reports, after District Judge Amy Berman Jackson ruled Trump “plainly” violated the law by firing the ethics official.

The Trump administration went to the Supreme Court after a panel of judges at a D.C.-based federal appeals court ruled 2-1 to uphold the lower court’s ruling shielding Dellinger, whom former President Joe Biden appointed to a five-year term at the Office of Special Counsel, which handles issues like protecting whistleblowers against retaliation.

Feb. 14 U.S. District Judge John Bates—whom Musk and his allies had previously been attacking for issuing an unfavorable opinion—sided with Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and declined to issue a restraining order blocking DOGE from accessing information at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and Departments of Labor and Health and Human Services, as labor unions had asked for, with Bates swatting down the legal arguments the unions made even as he acknowledged his “serious concerns” about DOGE’s access to the data.

Feb. 13 A federal judge ordered the Trump administration to temporarily lift a freeze on foreign aid—which began three weeks ago—noting that the officials “have not offered any explanation for why a blanket suspension of all congressionally appropriated foreign aid…was a rational precursor to reviewing programs.” the judge said.

Feb. 13 Fourteen states, led by New Mexico, sued Musk, Trump and DOGE, alleging the power given to Musk by Trump is unconstitutional and that Musk “has roamed through the federal government unraveling agencies, accessing sensitive data, and causing mass chaos and confusion for state and local governments, federal employees, and the American people.”

Feb. 13 Baltimore-based Judge Brendan A. Hurson blocked Trump’s directives restricting transgender health care and gender-affirming care for people under age 19, multiple outlets report—putting the restrictions on hold as the lawsuit, brought by transgender youth, moves forward—with Hurson saying at a hearing that Trump’s restrictions on the medical treatments “seems to deny that this population even exists, or deserves to exist.”

Feb. 13 Trump’s executive order rescinding birthright citizenship for people born in the U.S. to parents who aren’t citizens or permanent residents was blocked for a fourth time in court, as District Judge Leo T. Sorokin issued an order pausing the policy in response to a lawsuit brought by an expectant mother who has Temporary Protected Status and is in the U.S. lawfully, but is not a permanent resident or citizen.

Feb. 13 Trump-appointed District Judge Carl Nichols extended a previous order blocking the Trump administration from putting 2,200 employees at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) on leave—part of the White House’s broader plan to dismantle the foreign aid agency, which the federal employees union that brought the lawsuit called “unconstitutional and illegal”—with Nichols’ order barring the federal government from removing any USAID workers from the countries where they’re stationed until at least Feb. 21.

Feb. 13 Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, a Democrat, sued the Trump administration in federal court, alleging the administration has not disbursed more than $2 billion in approved federal funds it owes the state despite a previous court order lifting the administration’s proposed freeze on federal spending.

President Trump has filed an emergency appeal to SCOTUS after  district judge ordered a Biden appointee who was from his position as head of Office of Special Council to be rehired.

President Donald Trump has been forced to take his fight to the U.S. Supreme Court after an Obama-appointed judge reinstated Hampton Dellinger, a Biden-era bureaucrat, as head of the Office of Special Counsel.

This latest legal battle comes after a series of judicial oversteps by the activist judiciary.

Last Friday, President Trump exercised his constitutional duty to dismiss Dellinger from his position at the Office of Special Counsel, an agency tasked with safeguarding federal whistleblowers.

Rather than accept his removal, Dellinger filed a lawsuit to reclaim his job. The case was conveniently assigned to none other than Obama-appointed Judge Amy Berman Jackson.

Trump White House Reveals Its New Tax Plan for Americans– townhall.com

We knew this was coming, too. One way to revamp the American economy is to create a better tax and job-creating environment. The first Trump presidency did that, which led to bonuses for workers, billions in repatriated cash from overseas, and small business and consumer confidence reaching historic highs. Unemployment across the board reached all-time lows, and then the COVID pandemic happened, thanks to shoddy Chinese lab workers not following or having proper containment protocols in Wuhan.

Now, flush with victory after the 2024 election, the Trump White House is making it a priority to extend their initial tax cuts, which have since expired. It should be made permanent when this budget reconciliation duel begins, and it will be a tough slog. Like completing the border wall and enforcing federal immigration laws, making the 2017 Trump tax cuts permanent should be a top domestic agenda item.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt added that there will be a concerted push for no tax on tips, no tax on Social Security for seniors, no tax on overtime pay, tweaking the caps on SALT, nixing the breaks for billionaire sports team owners, and ending the carried interest loophole.

So far, more than 20,000 U.S. Federal workers have taken President Donald Trump’s buyout offer. This accounts for 1% of the total Federal workforce and is far short of the overall goal set by the White House, with consultation by DOGE, of 5%. “Insiders” talking to various press outlets expect a lot more buyouts to come before the final deadline to accept the offer expires.

UPDATE: 20,000 Federal Workers Have Taken President Trump’s “Buyout” — And Counting– wltreport.com

What’s better than firing people?

Getting them to quit on their own, especially when you’re operating in the minefield of federal workers.  Because of course The Swamp has built several protections into the system to protect itself.  After all, it wouldn’t be The Swamp if it didn’t!

But President Trump and DOGE are already making tremendous progress, trimming 20,000 bloated federal workers from the payroll — and counting!

Yes, this only amounts to about 1% of the federal workforce, but you have to start somewhere.

And pretty soon all these 1% gains are going to start stacking up!  They already are.

Axios was the first to report on the story:

About 20,000 federal workers have accepted the “buyout” offer put forward by the Trump administration last week, a senior administration official tells Axios.

Why it matters: It’s a significant number of people — about 1% of the federal workforce — but still substantially less than the White House’s target of 5% to 10%.

The offer is open through Thursday, meaning the total could rise, despite heavy opposition from unions and others.

What they’re saying: “We expect more to come. If you see what’s happening at USAID, it’s just one piece of the puzzle,” the official said, referring to the rapid restructuring of the federal agency that oversees foreign aid programs.

Aside from the pace of resignations, the official said, the administration is still trying to implement a hiring freeze.

In case you missed it, here was our original report:

BREAKING: President Trump To Offer Buyout To ALL Federal Workers, Expected To Save $100 Billion PER YEAR!

BREAKING: President Trump To Offer Buyout To ALL Federal Workers, Expected To Save $100 Billion PER YEAR!

Yesterday, I reported that there are some very brilliant “secret plans” in the works for DOGE and they would be rolling out soon.

If you missed that report, you can see it here:

Marc Andreessen Saw The “Secret Plans” For DOGE and it “Blew His Mind”

Today it looks like they’re already starting to roll out — and Elon Musk himself said this is just the tip of what’s coming!

First was this:

“Hold The Fake News Accountable For Their Lies” – Trump Administration Launches ‘Rapid Response’ Social Media Account

Then this:

JUST IN: US Pauses $50M Gaza Condom Aid

And now a BIG one….

You might even say “Big League”!

According to Axios and NBC News, the Trump Administration is getting ready to offer a buyout to ALL federal workers (2+ million of them).

The buyout will give an incentive for workers to resign, thereby shrinking the federal payroll, shrinking one component of the entrenched “Deep State” and saving billions.

In fact, it is estimated that 5-10% of the federal workforce might accept this offer, which is estimated to result in about $100 BILLION of savings….per year!

Here are more details, from Axios:

The White House will issue a memo Tuesday offering to pay federal workers who don’t want to return to the office through Sept. 30, as long as they resign by Feb. 6, an administration official tells Axios.

Why it matters: It’s an acceleration in President Trump’s already unprecedented purge of the federal workforce.

What they’re saying: “The government-wide email being sent today is to make sure that all federal workers are on board with the new administration’s plan to have federal employees in office and adhering to higher standards. We’re five years past COVID and just 6 percent of federal employees work full-time in office. That is unacceptable,” a senior administration official tells Axios.

  • The White House expects 5% to 10% of federal employees to accept the offer, which would potentially mean hundreds of thousands of people.
  • The administration projects the buyouts could ultimately save taxpayers up to $100 billion a year.

Zoom out: The offer applies to all full-time federal employees, except for military personnel, the Postal Service, and those working in immigration enforcement or national security.

The big picture: The memo is just the latest step in the White House’s unprecedented move to push career federal workers out of their jobs, and, observers say, replace them with loyalists — a return to a patronage system that federal law sought to banish more than a century ago.

NBC News confirms:

President Donald Trump’s administration is set to offer every single federal worker the chance to take a “deferred resignation” with a severance package of roughly eight months of pay and benefits.

A senior administration official told NBC News that they expect 5%-10% of the federal workforce to quit, which, they estimate, could lead to around $100 billion in savings.

“American taxpayers pay for the salaries of federal government employees, and therefore deserve employees working on their behalf who actually show up to work in our wonderful federal buildings, also paid for by taxpayers,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement. “If they don’t want to work in the office and contribute to making America great again, then they are free to choose a different line of work, and the Trump Administration will provide a very generous payout of 8 months.”

That would sure be a great start for DOGE and for the Trump Administration, don’t you think?

Absolutely brilliant, but then I would expect nothing less from Trump and Elon.

Way to go fellas!

President Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order Monday reinstating thousands of American service members who were discharged for refusing experimental COVID-19 vaccines during the pandemic. Doing so will amount to another promise kept by the Republican, who stated in August, “I will rehire every patriot that was fired with an apology and backpay. They will get their backpay and an apology from our government.”

Former Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin issued a memo on Aug. 24, 2021, both declaring that “mandatory vaccination against coronavirus disease 2019 is necessary to protect the Force” and characterizing the novel vaccines as safe and effective.

The Biden administration’s vaccine mandate for U.S. service members was ultimately rescinded in January 2023 as the result of a Republican-backed requirement added to the 2023 National Defense Authorization Act. However, during the 16 months the mandate was in effect, roughly 17,000 service members refused to take the vaccine.

Americans hoping for a rematch between President Donald Trump and Jim Acosta will have to lay those dreams to rest in a light of reports that Acosta will be leaving CNN.

Oliver Darcy, a former CNN reporter now with Status News, said that sources within the network indicated the CNN veteran who notoriously filibustered every press conference during Trump’s first term will be leaving the network in response to recent leadership decisions.

Earlier this month, Darcy reported that CNN CEO Mark Thompson had booted Acosta from his 10 a.m. weekday time slot and planned to give him the graveyard shift from 12 a.m. to 2 a.m., a move that Acosta views as a gesture toward President Donald Trump.

Darcy, a former CNN reporter, on Monday night said the 18-year veteran of the network has indicated to associates that he plans to leave the network after being removed from his 10 a.m. weekday time slot by CNN CEO Mark Thompson. In his report on Monday, Darcy confirmed that Acosta indeed plans to leave the network:

The anchor, I’m told, signaled to associates in private conversations over the weekend that he intends to depart the network after its chief executive, Mark Thompson, booted him from the morning programming lineup — a move that conspicuously coincided with Donald Trump’s return to power.

CNN brass, as we first reported earlier this month, decided to strip Acosta of his 10am show, which he has anchored to great ratings success over the last 11 months, at times even seeing higher viewership than programs in the channel’s prime time bloc. Acosta was instead offered the less-than-desirable option of anchoring a show from midnight until 2am ET. CNN pitched the gig to Acosta as anchoring during prime time on the West Coast and said he could move to Los Angeles to host the program. But the reality is the program would have aired at a time in which cable news viewership is at its lowest levels.

On Monday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order prohibiting inmates who are biological males from being housed at female federal prisons.

According to the Daily Caller, the order would impact at least 15% of the current population of federal prisons designated for female inmates, as the number of male prisoners who choose to identify as women has skyrocketed. The Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed that out of 10,047 inmates in federal female prisons across the county, 1,538 are men.

The order also forbids the use of federal funds for transgender surgeries for prisoners, as well as hormone therapy and other treatments for those claiming to be of the opposite gender.

“The Attorney General and Secretary of Homeland Security shall ensure that males are not detained in women’s prisons or housed in women’s detention centers,” the order declares, also noting that “any medical procedure, treatment, or drug for the purpose of conforming an inmate’s appearance to that of the opposite sex.”

Several far-left groups have already announced or hinted at intentions to file lawsuits to block the order’s implementation, with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) falsely describing the order as “a plan to erase transgender people’s existence under the law.” Another pro-LGBT group, Lambda Legal, has called the order unconstitutional.

Last week, President Donald Trump reversed the Biden administration’s radical agenda of using federal taxpayer dollars to fund abortion by signing a memorandum that reinstates the Hyde Amendment and the Mexico City Policy.

The Hyde Amendment bars taxpayer dollars from being used to fund elective abortions domestically and the Mexico City Policy prohibits federal funding for international organizations that advance abortion abroad, such as International Planned Parenthood and United Nations Population Fund.

The Hyde Amendment, first enacted in 1976, is an annual legislative provision included in federal spending bills to prevent American taxpayer dollars from directly funding abortions except in the rare cases of rape, incest, or to save the mother’s life. According to a 2016 report by the Charlotte Lozier Institute, the amendment is estimated to have saved more than 2 million lives by its 40th anniversary. President Trump’s memorandum stated that the Biden administration circumvented this “longstanding commonsense policy” with two executive orders of his own that categorized abortion as “health care” making abortion facilities eligible for federal aid, and then “imposed a whole-of-government effort” to embed taxpayer dollars into funding elective abortion.

Colombian Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo announced on Sunday that his government would back off its refusal to accept two military planeloads of illegal immigrations deported from the U.S., which the county’s president Gustavo Petro previously called an “undignified” form of transportation for his citizens.

“A migrant is not a criminal and must be treated with the dignity that a human being deserves,” Petro initially said. “That is why I returned the U.S. military planes that were carrying Colombian migrants… In civilian planes, without being treated like criminals, we will receive our fellow citizens.”

In response, President Trump went on a social media tirade, excoriating the South American leader and threatening to impose an immediate 25% tariff on all Colombian imports.

“I was just informed that two repatriation flights from the United States, with a large number of Illegal Criminals, were not allowed to land in Colombia. This order was given by Colombia’s Socialist President Gustavo Petro, who is already very unpopular amongst his people,” Trump wrote in a lengthy post on Sunday afternoon.

Trump suggested that mass emigration from the strip, whether “temporarily” or “long term,” could help resolve “centuries” of conflict.

The B.C. premier went on to observe that his province is a major market for U.S. alcohol products.

“As a result, our decision not to purchase American alcohol definitely sends a message. It is one of the things that could be on the table in response to these tariffs that are completely unjustified,” he said.

At least one of the fired inspectors general, Michael Missal of the VA, sent an email to his staff shortly after being informed of his termination.

“All, I wanted to let you know that I was informed tonight by the White House that I had been fired as the inspector general,” said Missal’s email on Friday. “My understanding is that a number of other inspectors general were also fired.”

Noticeably, the inspector general of the Department of Justice (DOJ) was not among those fired before the weekend.

Trump has been disappointed with the results of his mass deportation campaign, according to four people with knowledge of the briefings, The Washington Post reported on Sunday. President Trump has once again demonstrated his unwavering commitment to making America great again by proposing a return to the economic policies that once made the United States the wealthiest and most powerful nation in the world, namely ending the federal income tax.

In a speech Monday evening, Trump outlined his vision for reviving America’s economic golden age through a strategic use of tariffs, a policy that has historically proven to be immensely beneficial for the country.

Trump began by emphasizing the potential for rapid economic growth, stating, “America is going to be very rich again and it’s going to happen very quickly.” He then delved into the historical context, highlighting the period from 1870 to 1913 as “the richest period in the history of the United States.” During this era, the United States relied heavily on tariffs, which Trump noted was a key factor in the nation’s prosperity.

Brown, whose face remained expressionless and eyes fixed unblinkingly on the former Army National Guard major as he stood on the River Entrance steps expressing his unabashed enthusiasm for President Donald Trump’s orders to change the culture of priorities of the U.S. military.

“It’s an honor to salute smartly, as I did as a junior officer and now as the secretary of defense, to ensure these orders are complied with rapidly and quickly,” Hegseth told reporters, “We are reorienting. This is a shift. This is not the way business has been done in the past.”
