Gerrymandering Wars

The far-left failure Governor Newsom is forcing a special election in an already very gerrymandered state into a utterly one party state. Newsom is a threat to democracy. Newsom claims gerrymandering is evil so he is going to super-gerrymander California’s existing gerrymandered congressional districts. Think about that.

Newsom wants to increase Democrat representation by five more, which would give Democrats 92% representation, while 40% of California votes Republican.

Former President Barack Obama is supporting California’s mid-cycle redistricting effort as a “responsible approach” to Republicans drawing new maps in Texas.

Obama praised California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s ballot measure proposal to redraw congressional districts and tilt at least five congressional districts in the state towards Democrats at a fundraiser on Tuesday for the National Democratic Redistricting Committee.

“I believe that Governor Newsom’s approach is a responsible approach,” he said, according to excerpts obtained by POLITICO. “I think that approach is a smart, measured approach, designed to address a very particular problem in a very particular moment in time.”

Former NBC/MSNBC political director Chuck Todd sounded a lot like CNN’s Jake Tapper on Tuesday’s edition of The Arena on CNN. In a poor attempt to deflect attention away from Democratic Party gerrymandering in states like California and Illinois, by falsely suggesting that Republican-controlled Florida was the “worst” state when it came to redistricting practices. He also argued that the way to solve a lot of those issues was to actively gerrymander.

What caused Todd to snap at his home state of Florida was CNN Republican commentator Scott Jennings calling out far-left states like California and Illinois for their wildly gerrymandered districts. “I mean, when I look at the states like Illinois and New York and even California with the supposed independent commission where Republicans get 40 percent of the vote and only have 17 percent of the seats,” he proclaimed.

California Democrats never miss a chance to lecture the rest of the country about “protecting democracy.” But when it comes to their own backyard, they can’t even answer the most basic question:

Who drew the newly proposed California congressional maps?

That’s exactly what Sacramento reporter Ashley Zavala asked Assembly Elections Chair Gail Pellerin and Senate Elections Chair Sabrina Cervantes yesterday. What followed wasn’t transparency. It was a master class in political dodge, deflection, and double-speak.

With the runaway Texas Democrats folding, it’s only a matter of time before the new redistricting plan passes and Republicans pick up five new House seats. The decision to gerrymander the Lone Star State was made in response to states like California, which, despite its “independent commission,” has a map that gives Democrats 43 of the 52 seats with just 60 percent of the total vote.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) on Wednesday confirmed that he and other local Democrats would hold a high-profile press conference geared towards combating the legislative effort to add five additional House seats in Texas.

“Donald Trump is about to have a very bad day,” Newsom wrote in a Wednesday post on X.

The president previously told reporters that Republicans were “entitled” to additional seats and said the FBI “may have to” go after Democratic lawmakers who fled the Lone Star State to ensure a vote approving the measure didn’t pass.

California voters want to keep the state’s independent redistricting commission in place, even as Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) pushes to redraw the maps by giving redistricting power to California‘s Democratic legislators, a new poll revealed.

Newsom wants to redraw the state’s lines in a way that favors Democrats to combat President Donald Trump’s push for Texas lawmakers to do the same in a way that favors Republicans.

A POLITICO-Citrin Center-Possibility Lab survey found that 36% of registered voters in California support returning congressional redistricting authority to state lawmakers. Sixty-four percent of voters in the state want to keep the commission.

A draft of California‘s new congressional districts could be released as early as Friday, a spokesman for California State Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas (D-CA) confirmed on Wednesday.

“We are aiming to release draft maps on Friday,” Nick Miller wrote in an email to the Washington Examiner.

The news follows a contentious back-and-forth between California Democrats and President Donald Trump over the map.

As Texas Republicans push to redraw their congressional map along (district) lines more friendly to their party, a redistricting arms race has broken out between governors from both parties.

Texas state House Republicans’ redistricting plans could hypothetically flip as many as five Democrat-held congressional seats, an effort President Donald Trump supports.

In response, California Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom is threatening a mid-decade redistricting of his own with a new ballot measure. On Monday, he penned a letter to President Donald Trump threatening to counter Republican districts if the Texas redistricting proceeded.

“You are playing with fire, risking the destabilization of our democracy, while knowing that California can neutralize any gains you hope to make.”

Governor Gavin Newsom is demanding that President Donald Trump respond to his threat to redraw the California congressional district maps, as President Donald Trump and others in the GOP have been pushing to redraw district maps in Texas and other states for Republicans to pick up a few more seats in Congress in the 2026 midterms.

Newsom wrote in the letter, dated August 11, “I am writing to ask you to call on the governor of Texas and other red states, who are acting on your request to draw new congressional maps through an unprecedented, mid-decade hyper-partisan gerrymander to rig the upcoming term elections, to stop those efforts.”

Democrats are increasingly explicit about their goals to turn illegal aliens into future voters — making Republican talk of amnesty or compromise more worrisome. Those efforts would be nothing less than hammering the final nails into the coffin of both the Republican Party and America.

At a Fort Worth “The People vs. The Power Grab” rally, Beto O’Rourke laid it out plainly.

“We absolutely failed to live up to the expectations that we set, so next time we win power, we’re going to drive that car like we stole it,” O’Rourke said. “We’re going to legalize every DREAMer, every DREAMer’s parents, every hardworking American doing backbreaking work that makes this country so g-dd-mn great in the first place, even greater as US citizens.”

Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott ended Democrat Governor of California Gavin Newsom and Texas Democrats who fled the state with a hilarious, brutal message, saying he’s still got plenty in his arsenal in this fight over redistricting.

Speaking to Glenn Beck on his podcast on Wednesday, Abbott literally laughed off Newsom who threatened him the day before to stop his plans to vote on a new congressional map that will give Republicans five more seats or else he would, somehow, add five more seats in CA to nullify the move, in a state that Democrats have already gerrymandered to benefit their party.

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) asked the FBI to intervene to help bring back state House Democrats who left Texas earlier this week to block the GOP from advancing a congressional redistricting map.

In a letter to FBI Director Kash Patel on Tuesday, Cornyn said he wants the bureau to “take any appropriate steps to aid in Texas state law enforcement efforts to locate or arrest potential lawbreakers who have fled the state” before referring to the Democrats who left.

Dozens of Texas state House Democrats left for other states, including Illinois and New York, this week, preventing state Republicans from doing business in the House on Monday. The remaining representatives voted to issue civil arrest warrants to the Democrats, while Gov. Greg Abbott ordered their arrest later that day.
