Poland’s prime minister has warned Russia could launch “hybrid drone and missile strikes” against his country and other countries on NATO’s eastern flank while portraying them as accidents.
Donald Tusk issued the warning in the Polish parliament on Thursday, citing intelligence assessments. He said such attacks could be intended to test NATO’s willingness to invoke Article 5, which requires member states to come to the defence of an ally under attack.
“There is a real risk that drones or other types of missiles could enter the territory of one or several countries on the eastern flank and even cause damage, while the official narrative would be that it was an accident,” he said.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday that Moscow has no intention of attacking Europe, but warned that if Europe attacks Russia, the resulting war will be “very short”.
