The U.S. Supreme Court agreed on Friday to pause a lower court blockade on a Trump administration program that helps verify registered voters’ citizenship status. The vote was 6-3, with Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, and Ketanji Brown Jackson in dissent.

In its per curiam opinion, the high court granted the government’s emergency application to temporarily stay a June ruling by D.C. District Judge Sparkle Sooknanan, a Biden appointee. That decision blocked the use of a revised federal system to determine whether a registered voter is a U.S. citizen for election integrity purposes.

As described by SCOTUSblog, the modified program came about following a March executive order by President Trump that (“among other things”) instructed the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration to “create systems that would allow state and local governments to verify the citizenship and immigration status of voters.” Those departments subsequently “overhauled” DHS’s Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) database system “to include the records of U.S.-born citizens, to give it access to Social Security numbers, and to allow bulk searches (rather than requiring users to inquire about one person at a time).”

The Trump administration’s initial request to pause Sooknanan’s decision was rejected by the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals (2-1) on Sept. 4. The government then filed its application for relief with SCOTUS days later.

It’s still slash-and-snap time in the Middle East, and not just in the Strait of Hormuz; Saudi Arabia is still contending with the Houthis, who are pushing closer to Saudi territory, as well as dealing with the aftermath of a drone attack on a critical pipeline that originated in Iraq. Now, though, the Saudis may be getting some aid from a rather unexpected quarter.

On Thursday, French President Emanuel Macron announced that France will be sending troops and equipment to Saudi Arabia, to help defend a critical refinery and pipeline.

President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday that France plans to send troops to Saudi Arabia to help protect a refinery and crude oil pipeline in the Red Sea port of Yanbu, ramping up France’s military efforts to contain the impact of the Iran war.

“We are going to send military assets, that is, soldiers, radar systems, and defense systems to protect this site,” Macron said in a TV interview on Thursday. However, he stressed that France was “not getting involved in any conflict,” adding that the decision had been finalized with Saudi authorities.

Yanbu has been one of the main supply nodes for diesel, crude oil and other refined products to Europe since the Iran war began, allowing Saudi exports to avoid the Strait of Hormuz. This month, however, pro-Iranian militias in Iraq damaged the pipeline in a drone attack, shutting it down. Last week, a Houthi attack damaged the Yasref refinery in the area, forcing it to shut down.

The French president evaded a question about the possible deployment of French combat aircraft, also noting that the French troops will not be engaged in any direct conflict; it would seem to be difficult to defend these installations against any attack without being engaged in any direct conflict, although it’s possible that the presence of not only more troops but troops from a NATO nation may deter some attacks. To date, though, the Houthis haven’t shown much in the way of reticence.

Earlier this month, Mamdani created the Mayor’s Office of Worker Power, which his administration describes as the first office of its kind in the country. Its mission is not merely to tell workers what the law says or where to file a complaint. City Hall says it will use its “resources and convening power” to help workers become “informed, connected, and organized.”

That sounds less like a traditional government office and more like a union organizing hub with a city seal on the door.

The concern is not that workers are organizing. They have every right to do so. The question is whether the same government helping them organize can also credibly investigate employers and enforce workplace laws involving those same disputes.

Mamdani’s executive order makes the overlap clear. The new office is supervised by the deputy mayor for economic justice. The order also directs agencies with labor-enforcement responsibilities to share information about workplace violations.

Picture a restaurant owner whose employees are in the middle of an organizing drive. One arm of City Hall is expressly charged with helping workers get “connected and organized.” Another arm of the same government may investigate that restaurant for workplace violations.

They did so through their report of the murder by hanging of a black woman, Tasia Fortune, who was only 29. After a black man, Jarques Ratcliff, 51, was arrested for the murder, the narrative wasn’t changed, that white supremacism is causing a lynching epidemic.

AP continued to promote the original anti-white narrative, accusing white supremacism of murdering the woman. CNN, which reported on the story in a similar manner, failed to follow up on the story when it became apparent the murderer was not a white man after all. This is not the free press, this is a military operation.

Democrats and the left have picked transgender issues as one of the hills they are willing to die on, and for those who have daughters or who participate in women’s sports themselves, it may very well have some effect on the midterm election. It seems as if biological men playing in girls’ and women’s sports is a relatively new idea. Think again. Leftists have glommed onto something that has quite a history.

On Tuesday, the conservative group Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee (CWALAC) released a compilation of numbers that claim 2,293 transgender athletes have won medals in female sports in the U.S. The group gathered data from a website called “HeCheated.” The site tracks transgender athletes in girls’ and women’s sports in both amateur and professional sports categories. The records go back to the mid-80s; however, the exact count has not been verified. But more on just how far back this has been going on in a bit.

Not only is there a physical and mental cost to girls and women being cheated by biological males, but there is also a monetary cost. Transgender athletes have competed in over 14,301 sporting events and won more than $501,498 in professional prize money. One of the prime offenders, the state of California, had roughly 611 cases where a female finished second behind a biological male. CWALAC says that number is up from 2025. CWA president Penny Nance had this to say about the data:

“It is shockingly unfair for biological women to have to compete against trans-identifying men. Our research finding that trans-identifying males have stolen over 2,293 gold medals from women in the United States is an outrage. Biological men have distinct advantages over biological women. This reality not only puts women in harm’s way, but it eliminates opportunities for biological women to earn a living and win competitions. Congress must act to protect biological women.”

Obtained by The Federalist, the 2026 Election Infrastructure Security Plan includes numerous tools and services that election officials can use to protect election infrastructure from physical and cyber threats in the midterms. The extensive report was produced by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), which falls under DHS.

The 13-page document begins by providing a comprehensive overview of existing election infrastructure (voting and processing facilities, voting hardware, etc.) and the core technological components (voter registration systems, tabulation systems, etc.) that define a typical election process. It also includes an analysis of potential cyber and physical threats to this infrastructure that officials may encounter during the 2026 contest, such as attempted cyber hacks of state voter registration databases and bomb threats directed at election offices.

The report provides guidance on how best to confront these prospective issues. For instance, to mitigate potential cyber vulnerabilities, the plan advises election officials to consider using paper ballots “that can be easily reviewed to ensure transparency, auditability, and resilience against software failures or manipulation,” and to “[c]onduct post-election manual audits of paper ballots to verify that voting systems function properly and to identify errors before certifying the final results.”

Flea-borne typhus rising in LA County with latest case reported in Wilshire Center

Typhus, a flea-borne bacterial disease, is on the rise in Los Angeles County, with the latest localized case reported in the Wilshire Center neighborhood, public health officials said Tuesday.

The disease is spread to humans by infected fleas that commonly live on rats, opossums, stray cats and other animals. Common symptoms include headaches, chills, muscle aches and rash.

The Wilshire Center case is the second localized typhus outbreak this year, according to the LA County Department of Public Health.

There were at least seven symptomatic cases linked to the outbreak, health officials said. Six of the seven patients had to be hospitalized at one point. All have recovered, the department said.

So far this year, 109 flea-borne typhus cases have been reported in Los Angeles County.

FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL — The Daily Signal has obtained the death threats made against an outspoken House Freedom Caucus member and his kids that have landed the perpetrator with an almost 10-year sentence in federal prison.

The man behind the threats, 26-year-old Edwin Guerrero, was also hit with a $15,000 fine, United States Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe announced.

“This pro-Hamas individual said he was going to kill me, my children, and make me watch as he killed them. I’m incredibly grateful that now he’s experiencing his own 9/11,” Fine told the Daily Signal in an exclusive interview. “The judge sentenced him to 9 years and 11 months in prison, one month shy of the maximum.”

Fine, who expressed his gratitude for the justice system for taking this matter seriously, thanked the judge and Kehoe for wanting to “send a message” to those who wish to inflict harm on someone for their race or ethnicity, as well as elected officials and children.

“Threats of intimidation or harm against public officials or anyone for their political or religious beliefs will not be tolerated,” Kehoe said in a statement shared with the Daily Signal. “We will take such acts seriously and prosecute these offenders to the fullest extent of the law.”

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said Sarasota teacher Liz Ballard “harassed, disparaged, and deliberately tried to cancel an eighth-grade student for his conservative views.” The AG blasted the teacher in a letter to the Satasota school district.

“I sent a letter to Sarasota Schools after a Pine View teacher allegedly labeled an 8th grader a ‘misogynist’ based on his political affiliation, ignored his parents’ wishes, and disparaged the child’s father,” Uthmeier wrote in a Monday X post, sharing the letter he sent.

“If true, she should be fired and never teach in Florida again,” the Florida Attorney General added.

Ballard, who teaches history at Pine View School in Osprey, Florida, is accused of singling out the boy as the “conservative perspective” in her classroom and later labeling him a “misogynist” — a slur she went on to spread around the school, Uthmeier said in his letter.

Moreover, the teacher engaged in this behavior despite the boy previously informing her that “his parents expressly forbid him to take part” in her debates, and even “openly questioned the suitability and influence of the student’s father,” the Florida AG added.

It’s the headline I’ve waited since I was probably seven years old to read: “US military spending $500M on ‘war-ready’ laser weapons — and zapping drones in Iran, along US border.”

That’s 50 years, folks, and totally worth the wait.

According to the New York Post — your go-to newspaper for words like “zapping” in the headline — “Iranian citizens have witnessed some dazzling laser shows recently,” because “US military has been deploying lasers in the Strait of Hormuz to knock out regime hardware.”

The Department of War said this week that lasers disable “drones and incoming cruise missiles at a much lower cost than using more expensive kinetic weapons like missiles.”

That’s no joke, either.

The Pentagon is mum on the details, but my understanding is that most of the laser weapons currently in use merely “dazzle” incoming threats, sending them off course. So there aren’t any cool vaporizations.

The Israelis led the way on some of this antimissile stuff, despite our head start with President Ronald Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative (now the Missile Defense Agency and soon as Golden Dome) in the early ’80s.

And Another Thing: No sharks were harmed in the production of this column. That we’re at liberty to tell you about, anyway.

Israel’s Iron Dome anti-missile defense system can hit incoming threats at over 40 miles away, but each launcher holds a max of 20 missiles — and each missile costs up to $60 grand. But then there’s Iron Beam, which uses fricken lasers. While Iron Beam is good only against enemy missiles close in (4-7 miles, roughly), each shot costs just five bucks or so. And there’s no limit on how many shots it can take, just so long as the power stays on.

New York Attorney General Letitia James’s latest legal battle against President Donald Trump has been shut down after a federal judge dismissed the multistate lawsuit challenging DOGE-linked access to sensitive Treasury Department systems.

James led New York and 18 other states in suing the Trump administration after the Treasury Department granted DOGE-affiliated employees access to Bureau of the Fiscal Service systems.

Those systems process federal payments and contain sensitive financial information.

Nearly one third of Democrats responded yes to a poll question asking them if they’d support President Trump being assassinated to remove him from office. 23% said they’d feel very positive if the President were assassinated, while 8% said they would be somewhat positive. 25% most likely hid their true views, claiming they had no opinion one way or another.

A person who feels neither one way nor another about a political assassination is de facto admitting they approve of violence as a means of political persuasion. No person who disapproves of political violence would respond with no opinion. This poll most likely shows most Democrats (59%) support murder as a means of political persuasion, murder that would not stop with the President.

Roughly one third of Democrats would like to see President Donald Trump assassinated at a rally, according to a new poll.

A poll conducted by the Center for Strategic Politics found “Democrats want Trump out by (almost) any means necessary” — including assassination.

Respondents were asked how they would feel if they woke up to several hypothetical headlines. Twenty-three percent of respondents said they would feel “very positive” if they saw a headline that said “President Donald Trump was assassinated while speaking at a rally.” Eight percent said they’d feel “somewhat positive” if they saw the news, while 25 percent said they had neither a positive nor negative reaction. Just 43 percent of respondents said they’d feel some degree of negativity if they saw the same news.

Democrats felt positively toward seeing a headline that read “President Donald Trump died overnight in his sleep,” with 45 percent of respondents saying they would feel “very positive” after reading the news and 10 percent feeling “somewhat positive.”

Democrats were also in favor of seeing Trump removed from office via impeachment, a military coup, or the 25th Amendment. The poll was conducted on Sept. 3 and Sept. 8-10 and surveyed 683 Democrat voters.

Perhaps then it’s unsurprising that Trump has been the target of several attempted assassinations with so much of the opposing party desensitized to (and even a fan of) political violence. What should have been a watershed moment more than two years ago when the president was shot at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, has only served to mark the first of many serious close calls on the president’s life.

After narrowly avoiding death on July 13, 2024, would-be assassin Ryan Routh hid in the bushes of Trump’s Florida golf course weeks later with a rifle. Austin Tucker Martin was killed this past February by agents after he breached the security permitter of Mar-a-Lago while armed with a shotgun and a gasoline can and refused commands to drop his weapons. In April, Cole Tomas Allen was arrested for attempting to assassinate Trump and his entire cabinet during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. A few weeks later, Nasire Best was killed outside the White House after he opened fire near a security checkpoint.

Romania’s Calin Georgescu filmed handcuffed outside the courthouse in Bucharest

DIICOT, Romania’s law enforcement agency tasked with investigating and prosecuting organized crime, drug trafficking, cybercrime, financial crimes, and terrorism-related offenses, and the national police ambushed Călin Georgescu in traffic before 7 a.m. Monday in Bucharest.

According to reports from the European press, authorities yanked him from the car with his son, Petru, still inside and raced both to the family house in Mogoșoaian. Masked police units then smashed the front door with a ram while Cristela Georgescu and their youngest boy, Pavel, stood inside getting ready for school. The raid dragged on for nine hours.

Officers hit five addresses that morning in Bucharest, Mogoșoaia, Ciolpani, and Buftea.

They filmed themselves storming the property and claimed they found €5,000. Georgescu was then hauled to DIICOT headquarters and marched out in handcuffs that evening. He spent the night in Bucharest’s central jail.
