The tense anticipation of the Iranian attack on Israel, and the recognition that it appears to be inescapable, have not yet prompted the government and the defense establishment to ready the public for it. The statements from the Home Front Command stating that “there is no change in the instructions” sound more like recorded message than useful updates; they offer no reassurance and certainly cannot prevent harm to civilians or damage to public buildings and infrastructure. It seems that, as in the war in Gaza, residents and volunteer organizations will be forced to find their own solutions for protecting themselves. And the government will retroactively blame them for failing to take appropriate measures in the face of an obvious threat.
