State lawmakers are taking steps to, in the future, keep immigration detention centers out of communities.

Under a bill that moved out of an Illinois House committee Wednesday, new immigration detention centers would be prohibited within 1,500 feet of schools, churches, day care centers, cemeteries, public parks, forest preserves, private residences and public housing.

Testifying in support of the legislation was House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch and Broadview Mayor Katrina Thompson, both of whom represent the Broadview area, where a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement processing center played a major role in Operation Midway Blitz last fall. The bill got broad support from Democrats, but was unanimously opposed by Republicans.

“This bill says something very simple and very reasonable: Detention facilities do not belong in the middle of our neighborhoods,” Welch said. “They should not be next to schools, they should not be next to day care centers, they should not sit beside parks, public housing, places of worship, or private homes like the Broadview detention center does.”

Ha Nguyen McNeill, the top official at the TSA, is testifying about the dire air travel situation before the House Homeland Security Committee, where she is calling on Congress to fund DHS and “ensure this never happens again.”

McNeill said the TSA has already lost more than 480 transportation security officers during this shutdown, while callout rates have accelerated. At some airports, 40 to 50% of their workforce is calling out of work on certain days, she said.

“This has led to the highest wait times in TSA history, with some wait times greater than four and a half hours,” McNeill said. “We are being forced to consolidate lanes and may have to close smaller airports if we do not have enough officers. It is a fluid, challenging and unpredictable situation.”

The U.S. military has sent MQ-9 Reaper drones to Nigeria, a U.S. defense official reportedly told The Associated Press, as fears are growing of a renewed insurgency by the terrorist group Boko Haram.

The drones were deployed after 200 U.S. troops arrived in Nigeria last month to provide training and intelligence. Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country, is battling a complex security crisis, especially in the north of the country.

A spokesperson for AFRICOM, the U.S. Africa Command, told the AP that U.S. troops “are working alongside their Nigerian counterparts to provide intelligence support, advisory assistance, and targeted training in support of the Nigerian Armed Forces.”

Among the most prominent Islamic militant groups active in Nigeria are Boko Haram and its breakaway faction, which is affiliated with the Islamic State and is known as Islamic State West Africa Province, or ISWAP.

“We expect the defendant to remain detained and be deported following sentencing, due to the felony conviction.”

An illegal immigrant who identifies as transgender has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy inside a Manhattan bodega last year, but will not serve additional jail time beyond the six months already spent in custody.

According to the New York Post, Nicol Alexandra Contreras-Suarez, a 31-year-old Colombian national, was admitted to Manhattan Supreme Court on Tuesday for charges of second-degree rape stemming from a February 2025 incident in East Harlem. Under the terms of the plea agreement, Contreras-Suarez was sentenced to six months behind bars.

As a result, Contreras-Suarez is expected to be released following formal sentencing on April 27. Federal immigration authorities may take Contreras-Suarez into custody at that time for potential deportation, though officials have not confirmed their plans.

The Justice Department’s investigation of a $2.5 billion renovation project at the Federal Reserve didn’t find any evidence of a crime, a federal prosecutor privately conceded under questioning by a skeptical judge earlier this month, according to a transcript of the sealed hearing.

That admission by Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Massucco came during a March 3 hearing that was closed to the public, the transcript shows. Eight days later, Chief Judge James Boasberg quashed government subpoenas issued to the Federal Reserve, dealing a severe blow to the government’s investigation.

Before the U.S. and Israel launched their joint attacks on Iran 25 days ago, many Iranians said they would welcome foreign intervention if it meant the end of the Islamic Republic. The regime, in power for 47 years, had just crushed a huge wave of anti-government demonstrations, with President Trump claiming more than 30,000 were killed and vowing to come to the rescue of the protesters.

Now, two Iranians — one inside and one outside the country — tell CBS News the feeling of optimism has shifted markedly after more than three weeks of war.

A horrific explosion at a Texas crude oil refinery prompted an immediate shelter-in-place order.

The blast occurred at the Valero Refinery in Port Arthur, Texas.

“At this time, numerous emergency crews are on the scene following a major explosion at a Valero refinery. Large flames are visible, with heavy smoke rising and seen for miles. Multiple witnesses reported feeling the ground shake at the time of the blast,” Rawsalerts wrote.

“A shelter-in-place order has been issued for nearby residents as a precaution while crews work to contain the situation. The cause of the explosion remains unknown and is currently under investigation,” the post added.

Over the weekend, Venezuelan illegal immigrant Jose Medina-Medina was arrested for murdering 18-year-old Loyola University student Sheridan Gorman. Gorman, 18, was walking with friends in Chicago when Medina-Medina shot her in the head. He was released at the border by the Biden administration back in 2013.

Medina-Medina missed his court appearance yesterday because he was hospitalized with tuberculosis.

Here’s more:

Sheridan Gorman spent the early morning hours on Thursday with friends, watching the skyline on the Loyola Beach Pier, prosecutors said, when she noticed someone hiding.

As the group started to run away, Jose Medina, 25, fired a gun, prosecutors alleged Monday, hitting the 18-year-old Loyola University Chicago student in the back while her friends took cover in a grassy area of the beach.

Though a full detention hearing was postponed because Medina is hospitalized with tuberculosis, Cook County prosecutors gave a brief account of the shooting that plunged the Rogers Park university into mourning and generated international headlines when the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced it had lodged a detainer request asking Illinois officials not to release Medina, who is a Venezuelan national.

Medina is facing charges of murder, among other felonies, in the slaying of Gorman, who was a first-year student from Yorktown Heights, New York. He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday where his public defender will detail any mitigating circumstances.

The Latin patriarch of Jerusalem has announced that at least some traditional Holy Week observances have been canceled or postponed as the military conflict in the Holy Land rages on.

On Sunday, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa issued a statement to note that the ongoing war in the region and the “restrictions” imposed as a result will not permit the faithful “to experience the traditional Lenten journey in Jerusalem.”

‘The empty tomb is the seal of the victory of life over hatred, of mercy over sin.’

In particular, the traditional Palm Sunday procession from Jerusalem to the Mount of Olives has been canceled, he said. The Chrism Mass, a Mass traditionally offered during Holy Week, during which a bishop consecrates sacred oils, has been “postponed to a date to be determined.”

Author Wynton Hall reveals in his new book Code Red: The Left, the Right, China, and the Race to Control AI that the worship of artificial intelligence as a literal deity is not science fiction. It is already happening, complete with IRS-registered churches, robot priests, and AI confessionals.

CODE RED explains that a former Google AI engineer and self-driving car pioneer named Anthony Levandowski filed paperwork with the IRS in 2017 to register a new church called “Way of the Future.” Its stated doctrine was centered on “the realization, acceptance, and worship of a Godhead based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) developed through computer hardware and software.” In an interview with Wired, Levandowski described AI in blunt terms: “What is going to be created will effectively be a god. If there is something a billion times smarter than the smartest human, what else are you going to call it?”

Skyfall is happening, and it will get to Mars in a totally new way.

Last summer, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the Virginia company AeroVironment unveiled their Skyfall mission concept, which would send six tiny helicopters to explore the skies of Mars.

Today (March 24), NASA announced that it will develop Skyfall for a 2028 launch, and that the mission will journey to the Red Planet on a spacecraft that uses nuclear electric propulsion (NEP) — what NASA is referring to as “the first nuclear powered interplanetary spacecraft.”

NEP systems operate like nuclear power plants here on Earth, relying on an onboard fission reactor. NEP is a fundamentally different technology than radioisotope thermoelectric generators (RTGs), which have powered the instruments of NASA deep-space probes like Voyager for decades. RTGs use the heat of radioactive decay to generate electricity; they are not involved in propulsion.

“Requiring operating temperatures less than nuclear thermal propulsion, the thermal energy produced by the reactor generates electricity, which is then used to power highly efficient electric thrusters,” NASA officials wrote in a description of the agency’s NEP efforts.

HARARE, Zimbabwe — HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) — Zimbabwe has detained the leading opponent to planned constitutional amendments that would extend the rule of the country’s 83-year-old president and make the post elected by Parliament, not the people. Former finance minister Tendai Biti was set to appear in court on Monday.

It’s the highest profile detention yet of critics of the attempt to allow President Emmerson Mnangagwa to extend his rule, due to end in 2028, by two years. Police in recent months have banned meetings or arrested people for gathering to express opposition.

Biti leads the Constitutional Defenders Forum, a group campaigning against the amendments. CDF spokesman Jacob Rukweza said Biti and programs director Morgan Ncube are accused of holding a public meeting without notifying police. They were detained on Saturday in the eastern city of Mutare.

Part 1 of a five-part Fox News Digital series investigation follows the money that created the “Revolutionary Base” for a transnational network of organizations allegedly waging cognitive warfare on U.S. citizens on behalf of the Chinese Communist Party.

As far-left American activists flood Cuba to support its flailing communist regime, U.S. officials have opened a sprawling investigation into an anti-America, pro-China nonprofit network forged during a wedding celebration in late February 2017, off Runaway Bay on Jamaica’s northern coast.

There, beneath a canopy of palm trees, an elite cadre of activists, intellectuals, celebrities, political organizers and comrades in a global Marxist-Leninist-Maoist movement assembled to celebrate the “Revolutionary Love” of two luminaries, both 62 at the time: Neville Roy Singham, an American-born tech tycoon living in Shanghai, and Jodie Evans, a red-haired veteran activist and co-founder of CodePink Women for Peace.

Like the opening scene of “The Godfather,” where powerful families consolidate power, the wedding celebration was about much more than the union of two people.

The role of Israel’s hijacking of Iran’s street cameras in the killing of the country’s supreme leader underscores how surveillance systems are increasingly being targeted by adversaries in wartime.

Hundreds of millions of cameras have been installed above shops, in homes and on street corners across the world, many connected to the internet and poorly secured. Recent advances in artificial intelligence have enabled militaries and intelligence agencies to sift through vast amounts of surveillance footage and identify targets.

On Feb. 28, Israel vividly demonstrated the potential of such systems to be hacked and used against adversaries when Israel tracked down Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei with the help of Tehran’s own street cameras – despite repeated warnings that Iran’s surveillance systems had been compromised, according to interviews and an Associated Press review of leaked data, public statements and news reports.

  1. DOGE CUTS $2 BILLION IN GOVERNMENT CONTRACTS – The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has helped federal agencies modify or cancel $2 billion worth of government contracts in the last 4 weeks alone, producing an overall savings of $757 million for the American taxpayer. DOGE’s similar efforts in the four weeks prior affected 273 government contracts, which led to a total savings of $1.4 billion. This means DOGE is reporting a savings of over $2 billion in the last two months of work alone.
  2. ANTIFA TERRORISTS FIRST TO BE CONVICTED OF TERRORISM – Nine Antifa members will go down in U.S. history as the first Antifa members convicted of terrorism. Finding DAs willing to charge them of terrorism has been difficult, but these terrorists chose Texas as their target for attack. U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Lancy Larson was more than willing to charge them with terrorism. They were found guilty of terrorism by a federal jury in Fort Worth, Texas.

The nine antifa members were convicted of organizing an ambush-style attack on an ICE facility in Alvarado, Texas. The nine convicted terrorists are Cameron Arnold, Zachary Evetts, Benjamin Song, Savanna Batten, Bradford Morris, Maricela Rueda, Elizabeth Soto, Ines Soto, and Daniel Rolando Sanchez-Estrada.

  1. VA STATE SPECIAL ELECTION DELIVERS CRUSHING BLOW TO DNC – The GOP candidate for a special election for the House of Delegates District 98 seat beat the DNC challenger by 25 points. Republican Andrew Rice defeated Democrat Cheryl Smith 62.5% to 37.5%. While the district is already Republican, the depth of the victory by a non-incumbent over a Democrat challenger serves as a warning to the Virginia Democrats in power that support for their radical agenda is not as deep and profound as they imagine.
  2. EZRA MOMENT TO HAPPEN TO MARK 250TH ANNIVERSARY OF AMERICA – Over 480 national leaders from a wide spectrum of industries, including politics, entertainment, and ministry, will be gathering to read scripture from Genesis to Revelation. The commemoration hearkens back to Ezra reading scripture to the people after returning from the exile and preparing to rebuild the temple and the city of Jerusalem (Nehemiah 8:2-3).

The event will take place in Washington, D.C. along the National Mall. It will happen from April 18-26. Creator and organizer Bunni Pounds said of the event, “It hit me in that moment, looking at Ezra at the Museum of the Bible, that we really need an Ezra moment in our nation. We need Americans to realize who we are, just like Ezra stood up with a scroll and he read the Books of Moses to the Israelites. We have, in a lot of ways, forgotten who we are as Christians and as Americans, because the foundation of Scripture is absent from our life.

And so I thought, man, it would be awesome if we had national leaders from all spheres of influence, all demographics and denominations, if they would stand up humbly in front of the American people and tell us that this is where they get their life and their peace and their wisdom is in Scripture every day as individuals. And then what if we read the Bible all the way through as Americans for the 250th birthday?”

  1. COPS TELL DEMOCRAT JUDGE NO WHEN JUDGE ORDERS VIOLENT CAREER CRIMINAL RELEASED – Las Vegas metro police are putting the constitution and the safety of the people above a leftist local judge, Eric Goodman, who has ordered a violent career criminal to be released. The criminal, Joshua Sanchez-Lopez, has been convicted of multiple violent crimes, including involuntary manslaughter.

Police arrested the criminal on a warrant for grand larceny of a motor vehicle. The Judge chose to set a bail of $25,000 and let Sanchez-Lopez go with an ankle bracelet monitor. The police refused to follow the order, appealing instead to the court through a petition to not release the defendant.

  1. U.S. SUPPORT FOR ABORTION UP TO BIRTH BACK ON DECLINE AFTER DOBBS – Americans’ support for abortion without restrictions peaked shortly after the Dobbs ruling in 2022 at 29%. Since then, support has been slowly eroding. Now, the number is down to 23%, a low not seen since 2019.
  2. SCOTLAND BEATS BACK EUTHANASIA – Scotland’s version of legalized euthanasia has failed to pass their legislature after a 2-year push for its passage. The bill failed 69 to 57. The bill’s passage failure tables the issue legislatively for a decade or more. The move is supported by the public, with a poll showing 7 in 10 fear it could be used to pressure people to commit suicide when they otherwise wouldn’t have.
  3. VENEZUELA’S BASEBALL HERO PRAISES CHRIST AFTER STUNNING VICTORY OVER U.S. IN WBC FINAL – Venezuela’s national baseball team was able to beat the American team 3-2 in the World Baseball Classic Final. The winning moment came from designated hitter Eugenio Suarez, whose top-of-the-ninth double knocked in what would prove to be the winning run.

After the win, Suarez was interviewed by Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, during which he gave constant praise to Christ. He said of the win, “It’s amazing. God is good. All the glory is for Christ Jesus. He was with us the whole time. We have to glorify, put His name in front of everything.”

  1. AFROMAN DEFEATS POLICE DEFAMATION SUIT AGAINST HIM – Joseph Foreman, who goes by the name Afroman, was sued by the Adams County, Ohio Sheriff’s Office for defamation. Foreman had published a video of the police raiding his home in search of drugs, a raid that proved fruitless.

The police sued the singer of “Because I got High” over defamation. A jury of Afroman’s peers found the singer not liable, delivering to the police department a stinging rebuke of their attempt to stifle the First Amendment rights of Americans.

  1. LAWSUIT VICTORY BREAKS DOWN BARRIER TO BIBLE SCHOOL STUDENTS BY CHICAGO PUBLIC SCHOOLS – Moody Bible Institute has settled with the Chicago Public School District after suing them for barring students from participating in Moody’s student-teaching program. The settlement ends the school district’s requirement that Moody must hire non-Christian employees before Moody’s students can be eligible to be student-teachers in their schools.

Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) Senior Counsel Jeremiah Galus stated in a press release, “Chicago desperately needs more teachers to fill hundreds of vacancies, and Moody’s students will be well-equipped and qualified to help meet that need.

“Moody holds its faculty and students to high standards of excellence, and we’re pleased to reach this favorable outcome that will allow it to participate in Chicago Public Schools’ student-teaching program. We’re hopeful other public officials will take note that they can’t inject themselves illegally and unconstitutionally into a religious non-profit’s hiring practices.”

  1. AS ECONOMY BUCKLES UNDER IRAN WAR PRESSURES, THE TARGETED REGIME IS RUNNING OUT OF LEADERS, BUT NOT THREATS – The Islamic Republic of Iran managed to launch a major attack on Qatar’s oil fields that will take years to repair. It is promising to step up its attack on the oil infrastructures of its neighbors. Israel has responded by striking some of their oil fields, a move President Trump appears to disapprove of. As leaders are appointed, they are killed, with two top leaders killed this week alone. The new Supreme Leader is reported to be effectively non-functioning.

While Iranian street soldiers continue to kill and intimidate citizens, they themselves are coming under increasing drone attacks. The pressure to finish the war mounts as the continued shutdown of the Strait of Hormuz is leading to spikes in oil prices and other knock down effects. A coalition of 6 nations has committed to join America’s efforts to open and police the Strait of Hormuz. The nations include Japan, the United Kingdom, and France.

The most alarming news may be the return of the aircraft carrier Gerald R Ford to Greece after a laundry fire broke out that took 30 hours to put out and destroyed 600 bunks. This means the Iran operation is now only supported by one U.S. aircraft carrier. The extent of the damage has not been reported by the Pentagon. The length of its repair was not given, nor was it made clear if the carrier’s escort ships will remain in theater.

SAVE ACT REMAINS STALLED IN SENATE, BUT NOT KILLED – Attempts to kill the SAVE Act, a bill that would make it mandatory for voters to show photo ID to vote and end request-only mail-in voting (what we refer to as mass mailer voting), has failed in the Senate, with a 51-49 vote keeping the bill alive. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) appears ready to simply offer the bill for an up-or-down vote, without forcing the Senate to vote on changing the filibuster rule to require a verbal, rather than a procedural action.

Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) is proposing the Republicans pass the measure as a budget resolution bill, making a simply majority vote in the Senate sufficient to pass the bill. Efforts by the Democrat press to demonize the bill have failed to move the needle of support, with 80% of the country as a whole supporting requiring photo ID for voting. A new tactic is to claim the bill is an unfunded mandate, placing a price tag on election integrity.

The GOP Texas Senate candidates have reached the point of no return in their race. This means the offer made by AG Paxton to withdraw from the race is no longer possible.  Paxton offered to drop out of the race if Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) does everything he can to assure the SAVE Act. Now, that option is no longer on the table due to withdrawal deadline passing.

Grassley claimed, “in August 2020, FBI Supervisory Intelligence Analyst Brian Auten opened an assessment which was used by a FBI Headquarters (‘FBI HQ’) team to improperly discredit negative Hunter Biden information as disinformation and caused investigative activity to cease.”

  1. EPSTEIN WAS A FINANCIAL BOUNTY HUNTER FOR THE U.S.? – Jeffrey Epstein was officially a U.S. government agent according to a memo released among the Epstein Files. The claim comes from an unsigned memo that states, “At some point in time, Jeffrey Epstein worked for the United States government as a financial bounty hunter. He has retained significant political connections with both Israel and the United States.”

The memo’s credibility comes from another part of the note recommending further information about Epstein from other federal agencies. National security concerns have been heightened in lieu of a slew of recent Islamist attacks on American soil. The DNC media continues to protect the Democrat Party from being blamed for the shutdown, choosing instead to blame Republicans.

While the Senate works to push through a new DHS head, Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), the White House is claiming it has attempted to negotiate with the Democrats but has received no response. They released a letter to the Democrats, offering concessions on five points, expanding body-camera usage, limiting civil immigration enforcement activities at “sensitive areas,” improving DHS detention facility oversight, enforcing visible officer identification, and NOT deporting U.S. citizens.

The letter claims, “The Administration has worked in good faith to again reach bipartisan agreement on full funding for the entire Department of Homeland Security and institute common–sense operational improvements to federal immigration enforcement operations that enhance the safety of American communities. Democrats must stop holding the safety and security of the American people hostage and move forward with fully funding DHS.”

The degree to which they were successful can be debated, but what cannot be debated is that the intelligence community quickly buried the evidence in bureaucratic language games that allowed Chinese interference to be classified as something other than what it actually was.

Analytic ombudsman Barry Zulauf produced a report in 2021 that claimed, “China analysts appeared hesitant to assess Chinese actions as undue influence or interference. 1. THE MAN WHO RESIGNED IN OPPOSITION TO THE IRAN WAR WAS ALREADY UNDER FBI INVESTIGATION – The now-former director of the National Counterterrorism Center, Joe Kent, resigned over existential opposition to the war in Iran. He claimed Iran posed no serious threat to the U.S. and that Israel somehow tricked the U.S. into attacking Iran in the first place. His hyperbolic language is strong evidence that suggests he is an activist, not a dispassionate analyst. We assume he is pushing an agenda, a Progmerican agenda, not fact

ED.NOTE: This is not an endorsement of the war, even if we hope for a quick American victory.

Further evidence of that assumption comes from the now-emerged claim Kent was under FBI investigation for potentially leaking classified intelligence. The story claiming he was under investigation was published one day before his resignation, giving the story more credence.

In response to questions about Kent, the White House Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt claimed only that there are ongoing investigations into leakers. She also claimed Kent was NOT part of the intelligence briefings leading up to the Iran War, undermining his credibility regarding the knowledge of the decision-making process that led to the war.

It is feared that the law will be used to further crack down on these minorities, leading to more genocidal pogroms such as were carried out against the Uyghurs (and are still going on). Some of the tactics of the past include forcing minority groups to have more abortions, taking children and raising them as Han, and banning the use of the minority group’s languages and artistic traditions.

My distressed colleagues appear to have the fastidious sensibilities of a Victorian nun when it comes to mere unpleasant words in my opinion yet exhibit the scruples of our dearly departed colleague Judge Reinhardt when it comes to the government trampling on religious liberties and exposing women and girls to male genitalia. MINNESOTA TEACHERS’ UNION SPENDS TIME, MONEY COORDINATING TERRORIST ATTACKS ON ICE AGENTS – According to an investigation by Defending Education, a teachers’ union called “Minneapolis Families for Public Schools (MFPS)” has been coordinating an initiative to effectively help teachers organize resistance to ICE arrests of illegal aliens.

The “initiate” is called “TakeAction Minnesota.” On the website, they claim “We will teach and demonstrate resistance tactics that can be replicated elsewhere, leaving no community undefended. We hope to force an end to ICE’s unprecedented siege of Minnesota — and further the movement to abolish ICE altogether while we do it,”

Rhyen Staley, research director at Defending Education, stated “The teachers unions continue to prove they are rotten apples that only care about far-left street activism, to the detriment of educating children. Teachers and community groups should be dedicating time to improving learning outcomes for students, not creating strategies and lists of people to attempt to thwart law enforcement.”
