On June 25, Khant was sentenced to a conditional discharge for committing an indecent act. For three months, he will be under house arrest — during which time he can go shopping for three hours every Sunday, attend religious services, medical appointments and travel to and from work. Twelve months of probation will follow afterward. Whether Ontario will appeal remains an open question, as the province won’t reveal its plan until after July 25.

An edited version of the Miami Herald article, referenced by Romo, had a statement made by the Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin that opposed their false claims:

Many of the individuals that are counted as ‘non-criminals’ are actually terrorists, human rights abusers, gangsters are more; they just don’t have a rap sheet in the U.S. Further, every single one of these individuals committed a crime when they came into this country illegally. It is not an accurate description to say they are ‘non-criminals.’

It’s worth noting that Romo tried to use President Trump’s words against him when he visited the facility, but there was an obvious truth to his statement: He said that it would very soon house some of the most menacing migrants. He said, some of the most vicious people on the planet.

Yes, Rafael, “some of the most vicious people on the planet” have origin countries that are on Earth, and they just happen to be in the United States illegally.

Romo also added a quote from Democratic Representative Darren Soto about how the architecture of the detention center could have “serious concerns” of flooding during hurricane season.

What separates this facility from prisons located along both sides of the coast in Florida?

CNN’s efforts to sympathize with illegal immigrations while opposing the Trump administration’s policies prove that they didn’t have the safety of the American people in mind. The people who were sent to Alligator Alcatraz were criminals, whether they crossed the border illegally or committed crimes in their home countries.

RAFAEL ROMO: Well, Brianna, you may remember at the beginning of the month when President Donald Trump toured the migrant detention facility in the Florida Everglades. He said that it would very soon house some of the most menacing migrants. He said, some of the most vicious people on the planet. But a new report published Sunday suggests that may not be the case.

Hundreds of immigrants with no criminal charges in the United States are being held at Alligator Alcatraz, according to an investigation by the Miami Herald and the Tampa Bay Times, which obtained records about the migrants being held there.

According to the report, Brianna, there are more than 250 people who are listed as having only immigration violations but no criminal convictions who are being held together with those accused and convicted of crimes. In an interview with NBC on Sunday, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem dismissed the claims, saying ICE detention centers are generally better than most county jails or federal prisons across the United States.

Another House Democrat said, “What I have seen is a demand that we get ourselves arrested intentionally or allow ourselves to be victims of violence, and … a lot of times that’s coming from economically very secure white people. Biden only approved the basic criteria that were used for three sets of mass pardons, the Times reported.

A fourth set of pardons involved high-profile Trump critics like Mark Milley and Dr. Anthony Fauci.

Biden insisted that he discussed their cases individually.

“We know how vindictive Trump is, and I’ve no doubt they would have gone after Mark for no good reason,” Biden said.

“The general, you know.

“So they may read off his name — what’d I want?

“I told them I wanted to make sure he had a pardon because I knew exactly what Trump would do — without any merit, I might add.”

The White House used a multi-step process to record the proof of Biden’s involvement.

Senior advisers like chief of staff Jeff Zients would relay Biden’s decisions to assistants to be written down.

The assistants, who were not present for Biden’s meetings, would then send their notes back to Biden’s advisers for approval before sending them off to staff secretary Stefanie Feldman, who had the autopen.

If revisions were made to the pardon list, staff would run the final versions through the autopen without asking Biden to sign again.

On the final night of his presidency, Biden decided to pre-emptively pardon his family members.

However, Zients had the final sign-off.

In an e-mail at 10:31 p.m. on January 19, he wrote:

“I approve the use of the autopen for the execution of all of the following pardons.”

(The Center Square) — In a split with fellow Republicans, New Hampshire Gov Kelly Ayotte vetoed a bill Tuesday that would have authorized parent-led efforts to ban books and other “inappropriate materials” from the state’s public schools and libraries.

The legislation, which passed the GOP-controlled state Legislature earlier this year, called for creating a new process for banning books in New Hampshire schools by allowing parents and other individuals to file complaints challenging specific titles in libraries they believe are inappropriate.

It specifically lists materials they deem “harmful” to minors, including nudity, sexual conduct, sadomasochistic abuse, as well as other “patently offensive” subject material that lacks “value” to students.

But Ayotte said the state already has a process for parents through their local school district to “exercise their rights to ensure their children are not exposed to inappropriate materials.”

“As a parent, I understand and appreciate the concerns parents have about their children being exposed to age-inappropriate or objectionable materials in schools,” she wrote in her veto message.

But Ayotte said she doesn’t believe the state “needs to, nor should it, engage in the role of addressing questions of literary value and appropriateness” given that the measure called for financial penalties based on “subjective standards” of indecency.

The Republican said she also has concerns that the proposal, if approved, would lead to “extensive civil action” over materials in the state’s schools, which she said “could open the door to unnecessary litigation from out-of-state groups.

“If the Legislature determines that [the current statute] is not being implemented or enforced adequately, the more suitable and narrow way to address these concerns would be to modify that statute,” Ayotte added.

The state’s largest teachers union was among those who praised the governor for rejecting the proposal and “standing up for the freedom to read.”

“Every student deserves to see themselves reflected in the pages of their books,” Megan Tuttle, president of the New Hampshire chapter of the National Education Association, said in a statement. “We hope this book ban bill veto represents a changing tide at the State House and call on lawmakers to listen to Granite Staters who overwhelmingly oppose classroom censorship efforts.”

The debate over the measure comes amid a nationwide uptick in “book challenges” by parent groups, conservative organizations and lawmakers across the country who are pushing to remove certain books in schools and libraries, especially those dealing with LGBTQ and racial themes.

The 51-50 vote saw Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), who is up for reelection in 2026, break with her party over a bill that sought to claw back public funds from both media outlets. Still, she voted to advance the legislation to the floor for its final vote.

“The rescissions package has a big problem — nobody really knows what program reductions are in it,” Collins said in a prepared statement released after the procedural vote. “That isn’t because we haven’t had time to review the bill. Instead, the problem is that (the Office of Management and Budget) has never provided the details that would normally be part of this process.”
