North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein, a Democrat, vetoed legislation to make the Tar Heel State the next to pass constitutional carry.

According to Breitbart, the legislation would make North Carolina the 30th constitutional carry state in the country.

“This bill makes North Carolinians less safe and undermines responsible gun ownership. Therefore, I am vetoing it. The bill eliminates training requirements associated with concealed carry permits and reduces the age to carry a concealed weapon from 21 to 18 years old. Authorizing teenagers to carry a concealed weapon with no training whatsoever is dangerous. The bill would also make the job of a law enforcement officer more difficult and less safe. We can and should protect the right to bear arms without recklessly endangering law enforcement officers and our people,” Stein said in a statement on his veto of Senate Bill 50.

Per Breitbart:

On June 12, 2025, Breitbart News reported that North Carolina’s constitutional carry legislation, Senate Bill 50, passed the House and was headed to the governor’s desk.

SB 50 would allow law-abiding North Carolinians of military age — 18 years and above — to carry concealed for self-defense without having to jump through all the hoops currently required to get a carry permit from the state.

41-year-old Jonathan Michael Bohn was taken into custody on Wednesday evening and booked into Carver County Jail on suspicion of threats of violence.

A Minnesota lobbyist has been arrested after allegedly sending a text message that threatened violence at the state Capitol. This comes after Democrat lawmakers in the state were targeted in a shooting over the weekend, with one and her husband killed.

41-year-old Jonathan Michael Bohn was taken into custody on Wednesday evening and booked into Carver County Jail on suspicion of threats of violence, per KTSP.

Republican state Rep. Jim Nash said that one of his constituents had received a text message on Wednesday to their personal phone that was “threatening in nature.” A House Republican spokesperson said that the threat was not aimed at any specific lawmaker.

Bohn is listed as the Director of Public Affairs at the Inter Faculty Organization, which “represents the interests of faculty at the seven Minnesota State universities,” per the group’s website. Bohn’s bio states, “In the halls of the Capitol, Jonathan is regarded as a well-connected advocate who has worked on a variety of issues leading to legislative victories.”

A so-called judge has once again subverted the rule of law and potentially endangered the public due to hatred of President Trump.

As The New York Times reported, a federal judge ordered the Trump administration on Friday to release pro-Hamas student activist Mahmoud Khalil on bail. At this time, he is the only ‘major’ anti-Israel agitator demonstrator in America remaining in confinement.

U.S. District Judge Michael Farbiarz, an appointee of Joe Biden, issued the ruling.

The Gateway Pundit previously reported that Farbiarz ruled that the Trump administration could not deport Mahmoud Khalil, who was a graduate student at Columbia University before being detained.

Back in March, The Gateway Pundit reported that Trump’s ICE agents arrested Khalil, who led anti-Israel protests at Columbia and Barnard College.

He was set to be deported after being detained and taken into custody by ICE. The State Department had also issued an edict revoking his student visa and green card.

But U.S. District Judge Jesse M. Furman, an Obama appointee, slammed the brakes on the Trump administration’s efforts to deport Khalil.

Democrat Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-FL) has accused Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials of criminal behavior, including “kidnapping” and “human trafficking.”

Frost made the call on late-night television just hours after advocating for mass amnesty for all illegal aliens.

During an appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” on Thursday, Frost launched a broadside against federal immigration agents.

The congressman claimed, without evidence, that federal agents are operating outside the law.

“We have ICE federal agents pulling up, terrorizing our communities, hopping out of unmarked vans, stealing, and yes, kidnapping people, not giving them their day in court, and yes, human trafficking them to other nations, other countries around the entire world,” Frost said.

“I like to be very clear about what’s going on right now so people understand that what is going on is, I believe, outside the bounds of the law.”

The Florida Democrat also falsely accused ICE of violating due process rights.

Emmanuel Macron is facing a furious public backlash after his government refused to amend incest laws. Recent polling shows that there is high public support for a change to current legislation on incest.

A poll by Ipsos for Face à l’Inceste, the anti-incest association, found that 93 per cent of respondents wanted the notion to include cousins. Incest has remained a thorny social and political issue for France, where the word only appeared in the criminal law code in 2010.

Unlike the UK, there is no blanket ban on the custom, although marriages involving parents, grandparents, siblings and aunts and uncles are outlawed.

Experts in France argue that incest is a contributing factor in rape and sexual assault cases.

A 2020 study shows that about one in ten French people are victims, with father and father-in-laws the biggest perpetrators (32.7%), followed by uncles (17.9%).

While Face à l’Inceste says that up to 20% of incestuous assaults are committed by cousins.

The French government is believed to be concerned that any change to the incest law would inevitably force it to ban cousin marriages that are normal practice in some communities.

Iran’s friends don’t like the war decimating Tehran, but they’re not ready to join the fight against Israel and potentially the U.S.

Instead, Russia and now China have urged deescalation, emphasizing the dangerous consequences the escalating conflict could have on the whole world.

“If the Middle East is unstable, the world will not be at peace,” Chinese President Xi Jinping said Thursday. “If the conflict escalates further, not only will the conflicting parties suffer greater losses, but regional countries will also suffer greatly.”

“The warring parties, especially Israel, should cease fire as soon as possible to prevent a cycle of escalation and resolutely avoid the spillover of the war,” Xi added.

Xi’s comments came in a call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which both leaders called for a ceasefire, according to a readout by China’s foreign ministry. Earlier this week, Russia warned that Israel’s attacks have brought the world “millimeters” from nuclear calamity, and Putin urged Trump against attacking Iran, as the President is mulling direct U.S. military engagement in the war that has already killed hundreds in Iran and dozens in Israel.

ROME — ROME (AP) — Pope Leo XIV warned Friday that artificial intelligence could negatively impact the intellectual, neurological and spiritual development of young people as he pressed one of the priorities of his young pontificate.

History’s first American pope sent a message to a conference of AI and ethics, part of which was taking place in the Vatican in a sign of the Holy See’s concern for the new technologies and what they mean for humanity.

In the message, Leo said any further development of AI must be evaluated according to the “superior ethical criterion” of the need to safeguard the dignity of each human being while respecting the diversity of the world’s population.

He warned specifically that new generations are most at risk given they have never had such quick access to information.

“All of us, I am sure, are concerned for children and young people, and the possible consequences of the use of AI on their intellectual and neurological development,” he said in the message. “Society’s well-being depends upon their being given the ability to develop their God-given gifts and capabilities,” and not allow them to confuse mere access to data with intelligence.

In a hearing on Wednesday, an attorney for a South Bend, Indiana sheriff argued the state attorney general can’t prosecute him for allegedly ignoring state law banning sanctuary cities.

The Saint Joseph County Police Department “has repeatedly released criminal aliens into the community” for at least a year, Assistant Chief Deputy Attorney General Blake Lanning told The Federalist. “That creates serious public safety risks.”

Rather than showing the police department is complying with state law by informing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of illegally present foreign criminals in their custody, Sheriff Bill Redman’s attorney argued Attorney General Todd Rokita has no legal authority to prosecute his agency for failing to comply. Redman lawyer Michael Smyth also argued that failing to cooperate with federal law enforcement does no injury to the state, a requirement for lawsuit standing, according to local news reports.

Recent polls rank illegal immigration as Hoosier voters’ no. 1 political concern, yet Indiana lawmakers declined to pass a robust immigration enforcement bill backed by the AG’s office this spring. Refusing to honor detainers is a typical component of sanctuary city policies. Local governments’ refusal to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement is a major contributor to the United States’s illegal immigration morass.

A Republican congressman was run off the road and nearly killed Thursday after a far-left individual attempted to ram him with their car while traveling at high speed.

The incident occurred along an Indiana highway where Rep. Max Miller (R-OH) said he avoided his brush with death in Rocky River, a small city sitting along Lake Erie to the state’s northeast.

There, “the life of me and my family was threatened by a person who proceeded to show a Palestinian flag before taking off,” he wrote on X while sharing a video describing the harrowing encounter.

“I have filed a police report with Capitol Police and the local police department. We know who this person is and he will face justice,” he went on.

“If you have an issue with a legislator, your city councilman, your mayor, anyone like that, the appropriate thing to do is to reach out to them for a phone call to set up a meeting at one of our district offices. What is not okay is to assault anyone, whether you’re a member of Congress or anyone else within our district while you are driving to work.”

“While I was driving to work, some deranged, unhinged man decided to lay on his horn and run me off the road when he couldn’t get my attention to show me a Palestinian flag — not to mention ‘death to Israel,’ death to me — that he wanted to kill me and my family. USAID Official and Three Corporate Executives Plead Guilty $550 Million in Fraud, Bribery Using DEI– gellerreport.com

Four men, including a government contracting officer for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and three owners and presidents of companies, have pleaded guilty for their roles in a decade-long bribery scheme involving at least 14 prime contracts worth over $550 million in U.S. taxpayer dollars.

Roderick Watson, 57, of Woodstock, Maryland, who worked as a USAID contracting officer, pleaded guilty to bribery of a public official;
Walter Barnes, 46, of Potomac, Maryland, who was the owner and president of PM Consulting Group LLC doing business as Vistant (Vistant), a certified small business under the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) 8(a) contracting program, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery of a public official and securities fraud;
Darryl Britt, 64, of Myakka City, Florida, who was the owner and president of Apprio, Inc. (Apprio), a certified small business under the SBA 8(a) contracting program, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery of a public official; and
Paul Young, 62, of Columbia, Maryland, who was the president of a subcontractor to Vistant and Apprio, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery of a public official.

In addition, Apprio and Vistant, both of which contracted with USAID, have agreed to admit criminal liability and enter into three-year deferred prosecution agreements (DPAs) in connection with criminal informations filed today in the District of Maryland. As part of these resolutions, both Apprio and Vistant admitted to engaging in a conspiracy to commit bribery of a public official and securities fraud. The DPAs entered into with Apprio and Vistant require each company to, among other obligations, provide ongoing cooperation with and disclosures to the Justice Department, implement a compliance and ethics program, and report to Justice Department regarding remediation and implementation of these compliance measures.

“The defendants sought to enrich themselves at the expense of American taxpayers through bribery and fraud,” said Matthew R. Galeotti, Head of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division. “Their scheme violated the public trust by corrupting the federal government’s procurement process. Anybody who cares about good and effective government should be concerned about the waste, fraud, and abuse in government agencies, including USAID. Those who engage in bribery schemes to exploit the U.S. Small Business Administration’s vital economic programs for small businesses — whether individuals or corporations acting through them — will be held to account.”

“Watson was entrusted to serve the interests of the American people — not his own — and his criminal actions for his own personal gain undermine the integrity of our public institutions,” said U.S. Attorney Kelly O. Hayes for the District of Maryland. “Public trust is a hallmark of our nation’s values, so corruption within a federal government agency is intolerable. This office, along with our law enforcement partners, will continue to pursue and prosecute corruption at every level to ensure accountability and protect public trust.”

“The guilty pleas reflect the FBI’s unwavering commitment to holding accountable all those who abuse the authority and responsibility of public service,” said Assistant Director Joe Perez of the FBI’s Criminal Division. “The actions of the defendants in this scheme serve to erode public trust. The FBI is focused on rebuilding this trust and protecting American taxpayers from corruption through investigations such as these.”

“Corruption in government programs will not be tolerated. Watson abused his position of trust for personal gain while federal contractors engaged in a pay-to-play scheme,” said Acting Assistant Inspector General for Investigations Sean Bottary of the USAID Office of Inspector General (USAID-OIG). “USAID-OIG is firmly committed to rooting out fraud and corruption within U.S. foreign assistance programs. Today’s announcement underscores our unwavering focus on exposing criminal activity, including bribery schemes by those entrusted to faithfully award government contracts. We appreciate our longstanding partnership with the Department of Justice in holding accountable those who defraud American taxpayers.”

“Watson exploited his position at USAID to line his pockets with bribes in exchange for more than $550 million in contracts. While he helped three company owners and presidents bypass the fair bidding process, he was showered with cash and lavish gifts,” said Chief Guy Ficco of IRS Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI). “Through its financial crime investigations, IRS-CI works to protect taxpayer dollars and ensure government funds are awarded based on merit — not corruption. In close coordination with our law enforcement partners, IRS-CI helped put an end to their greed and criminal conduct. Now, Watson and his co-conspirators will face justice.”

The United Nations’ World Health Organization (WHO) and several other top European health agencies have been hit with a criminal complaint over surging reports of people developing deadly “turbo cancers” caused by Covid mRNA “vaccines.”

The new criminal complaint was filed in France and presents evidence linking Covid mRNA “vaccines” to the rapid onset of metastatic pancreatic cancer.

According to a report from French outlet The Daily News, the case sounds alarming about surging cases of “turbo cancer” and related deaths following mRNA injections.

The complaint was filed over the death of a French psychiatric nurse who had developed a rapidly spreading metastatic pancreatic cancer.

It calls for a full investigation into possible poisoning, medical malpractice, failure to obtain informed consent, and human experimentation without authorization.

The complaint was submitted on June 18, 2025, to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Named in the complaint are key regulatory bodies and individuals involved in Covid “vaccine” policy and approval:

  • World Health Organization officials, including Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus
  • French Medicines Agency (ANSM)
  • European Medicines Agency (EMA)
  • High Health Authority (HAS)

(Reclaim The Net) — A draft statutory instrument titled The Online Safety Super-Complaints (Eligibility and Procedural Matters) Regulations 2025 has been introduced to the U.K. Parliament, aiming to operationalize a new “super-complaints” mechanism under the U.K.’s expansive Online Safety Act.

A copy of the draft can be found HERE.

This mechanism sets up a process through which select organizations can formally raise concerns about systemic harms or provider conduct across digital platforms. Beneath the language of user protection, however, the framework codifies yet another channel for state-endorsed gatekeeping of online discourse.

Under these regulations, entities such as civil society groups recognized for their expertise in online safety may qualify to file a complaint with Ofcom, the U.K.’s communications regulator.

These “eligible entities” will be permitted to submit complaints no more than once every six months, barring certain exceptions.

The matters they can raise include not just tangible harms, but also content or conduct that appears to pose “a material risk” of causing “significant harm.”

Though framed as a tool for accountability, the structure hinges on a tightly controlled process.

Complaints must meet detailed evidentiary requirements and will be screened for admissibility by Ofcom, which has the discretion to reject submissions it deems repetitive, unfounded, or overlapping with court proceedings or matters under other regulators’ purview.

The ICE raids have been targeting illegal aliens crimials, many of whom are murderers, rapists, human traffickings, and other dangerous offenders.

However, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has accused Trump of targeting “honest” and “hardworking” illegal aliens.

During her daily news conference, Sheinbaum made her thoughts on the ongoing immigration raids crystal clear.

However, the Seattle Chief of Police has yet to get this memo, despite taking an oath to uphold the law.

OMG. I seriously cannot handle the background music! That alone should be illegal — the level of cringe is enough to make me want to rip my hair out.

According to KUOW:

Seattle Police Chief Shon Barnes told City Council members Tuesday that he plans to stand up for the First Amendment rights of Seattle residents and expects to be jailed at some point for making that stand.

LOL. How pathetic. As if this even comes close to the left going after Trump over things that aren’t even real. He really thinks he’s as important as the President of the United States. Pathetic. Just absolutely pathetic.

If he’s arrested for obstructing federal immigration enforcement, that’s on him. And the fact that he tries to blame the right for it shows a level of arrogance no one was prepared for.

“I will do everything in my power to protect anyone in Seattle from anyone who comes to this city with the intention to hurt them or inhibit their First Amendment rights,” Barnes told Council members during a Public Safety Committee meeting that is part of his confirmation process. “What that means is at some point I will probably go to jail and be in prison because we have an administration that has threatened to jail politicians… and has threatened to jail a governor.”

Colorado likes to brand itself as the “gold standard” of elections and democracy. But scratch the surface, and you’ll find something rotten. The same state that tried to bar President Trump from the 2024 ballot—only to be rebuked unanimously by the Supreme Court—is now under scrutiny for far more than election antics. Colorado has become ground zero for judicial tyranny, a place where whistleblowers are crushed, innocent men are financially destroyed, and courtrooms operate more like cartel headquarters than halls of justice.

The case of Tina Peters, the Mesa County clerk-turned-election integrity advocate, is finally drawing attention from the Department of Justice. After years of political persecution, Peters’ case has shifted from the DOJ Civil Division to the Criminal Division, with officials asking if her prosecution was less about justice and more about inflicting political pain. That’s a generous way to describe what happened. Jena Griswold, Colorado’s secretary of State, publicly posted hundreds of active election passwords, blocked expert witness Clay Parikh—one of the nation’s top cyber forensics specialists—from testifying, and weaponized the courts to silence Peters. The state’s judiciary went along with it, ruling that “nothing was compromised,” while the public saw the truth unfold in real time.

But Tina’s case isn’t an outlier—it’s a symptom of a far larger disease infecting Colorado’s judiciary. In a stunning exposé published in the Boston Broadside, the story of “John Doe”—a Colorado father who had more than $656,000 garnished from him without notice, hearing, or even proof of service—has exposed the state’s family court system as a lawless racket. The article, titled “The Family Court Fleecing of a John Doe — It Could Happen to You!”, details how John Sarina  (his real name, known to many familiar with the case) was railroaded by a court that allowed perjury by his ex-wife to go unpunished. Despite his repeated attempts to notify the court that he had not been served, Arapahoe County Court and Magistrate Moschetti allowed the financial carnage to proceed unabated. Constitutional rights were treated like an inconvenience. Due process was entirely absent.

In fact, 80 percent of respondents in the poll support a plan to deport criminal illegal aliens, which clocks in at the second most popular overall policy proposal (of 15) after lowering prescription drug prices for the elderly and low-income Americans. When asked more specifically if respondents favored what the Trump administration is doing to achieve the deportations, 74 percent agreed, including 57 percent of Democrats and 75 percent of independents.

The fifth most popular policy proposal is closing “the border with added security and policies that discourage illegal crossings,” with 67 percent support.

Washington — President Trump has been briefed on both the risks and the benefits of bombing Fordo, Iran’s most secure nuclear site, and his mindset is that disabling it is necessary because of the risk of weapons being produced in a relatively short period of time, multiple sources told CBS News.

“He believes there’s not much choice,” one source said. “Finishing the job means destroying Fordo.”

The president approved attack plans on Iran on Tuesday night, but has not made a final decision on whether to strike the country and formally join Israel’s air campaign, a senior intelligence source and a Defense Department official told CBS News on Wednesday. Mr. Trump held off on deciding to strike in case Tehran agrees to abandon its nuclear program, the sources said.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the president will make a decision on whether to order a strike within the next two weeks.

“Based on the fact that there is a substantial chance of negotiations that may or may not take place with Iran in the near future, I will make my decision whether or not to go within the next two weeks,” Mr. Trump said in a statement read by Leavitt at the White House press briefing.

Liberal America suffered another blow with the Supreme Court’s ruling on Tennessee’s transgender law. The Volunteer State passed ordinances to protect its youth from the twisted overreaches of the trans clan vis-à-vis surgeries and puberty blockers. The ruling didn’t strike down laws that permitted such insanity, but other states can now pass similar laws that will hit the brakes on unhinged parents mutilating their kids. Jeff had the story this week:

The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued a ruling upholding Tennessee’s ban on “gender-affirming care” for minors suffering from gender dysphoria.

The ruling solidifies laws that shield children from being subjected to questionable medical treatments such as puberty blockers, hormone treatments, and surgery.

In a 6-3 decision, the Court ruled that Tennessee’s law does not violate the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment because it does not classify based on sex or gender identity. It concluded that the state has a legitimate interest in protecting children from the adverse impact of these treatments.

Illegal aliens have got to go. I know you know this, but for those who think these people should say—cough* liberals cough*–they’re now attacking federal officials. United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III of the Northern District of New York escaped a knife attack from a deranged illegal alien from El Salvador who chased Mr. Sarcone through Albany. He was able to seek refuge in a Hilton lobby, where the assailant, Saul Morales-Garcia, continued to shout at Sarcone but later retreated. The US attorney then called the police, later walking back onto the street to get Morales-Garcia’s attention; Sarcone feared he’d kill an innocent bystander if he were allowed to slip away.

Morales-Garcia then turned around and charged at Sarcone again. By then, the police had arrived, and order was brought to the situation—a knife was recovered at the scene. Police say Sarcone’s actions to keep Morales-Garcia occupied with him probably saved lives (via DOJ):

Tuesday June 17, after leaving his office in downtown Albany, United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III was the victim of a life-threatening incident.  Saul Morales-Garcia, an illegal alien from El Salvador, who entered the United States in 2021 after a prior deportation, lunged at Sarcone while brandishing a knife and yelling aggressively in a foreign language Sarcone could not readily identify.  Sarcone ran to the lobby of the Hilton Hotel and Morales-Garcia stopped and still shouting in a foreign language turned and started to walk away.  Sarcone immediately contacted Albany County Sheriff Craig D. Apple Sr.  Sarcone went back to the street and maintained a safe distance and yelled out to Garcia-Morales to gain his attention to prevent Morales-Garcia from disappearing as Sarcone believed an innocent person would be killed by Morales-Garcia.  Before law enforcement arrived, Morales-Garcia charged at Sarcone again screaming and yelling at Sarcone in a foreign language while wielding the knife to make a slitting-the-throat gesture at Sarcone. Sarcone again ran to the lobby of the Hilton where again Morales-Garcia stopped, turned and began to walk away but was apprehended when Sheriff’s deputies arrived.   Morales-Garcia was taken into custody and the knife was recovered.

Sarcone was physically unharmed, but emotionally rattled and stated, “I felt an obligation to the public as the chief Federal law enforcement officer in the district that includes the city of Albany.  I feared for my life but I couldn’t let this individual harm and potentially kill others.”

Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple said: “U.S. Attorney John Sarcone’s selfless actions likely saved lives.”

Morales-Garcia was charged with attempted second-degree murder, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, and menacing in the second degree and remanded without bail.  He made an appearance in Albany City Court yesterday and an order of protection was issued for Sarcone. Morales-Garcia may also face federal charges; the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Homeland Security Investigations are involved in the ongoing investigation.

Last weekend, liberal America decided to take to the streets for No Kings Day, a loser exercise which did nothing. We have no king, Trump is still president, and Kamala Harris still lost the 2024 election. The ICE raids will continue, so deal with it. It’s also extra hilarious since liberals wanted Obama to act like a king during his presidency. It’s not just little old biased me saying No Kings was a waste of time: Ruy Teixeira, a liberal commentator and political analyst, threw cold water all over this little protest, saying it’s not enough.

If you’re unfamiliar with Teixeira’s work, he worked for the Center for American Progress but was essentially forced out because his analyses made his fellow liberals angry, namely the Democratic Party’s hard shift to the Left and its denigration of the working class. Ironically, he’s now with the American Enterprise Institute, last time I checked.

On his Substack, he noted that Trump and the GOP’s popularity over the Democrats is the first death blow to this notion that ‘No Kings’ could evolve into a larger movement. The second is that core Democratic voter groups have all turned against the Democrats. Last, he cited David Brooks’ column about why Democrats’ odyssey out of the wilderness won’t be easy. Liberals find themselves on the opposite end of where social trends are going right now: they’re institutionalists in an era where everyone hates institutions. They’re elitists when voters view elections as a duel between the elites and everyone else. While David Brooks isn’t MAGA, he was spot-on in highlighting those structural flaws within the Democratic Party. Now, there were some things about Teixeira’s post that I disagreed with, but overall, he shined a light into how the Left doesn’t get it yet:

This time is different. This time, he’s gone too far. This time, voters will be roused from their stupor and massively reject the Bad Orange Man. If only it were that simple. Here are some reasons why it’s not.

They’re not popular but then again neither are the Democrats. Trump’s approval has gone down since the beginning of his second term, now sitting at 46.5 percent in the RCP running average (a point lower in Nate Silver’s average). But Trump is still running ahead of his approval rating at this point in his first term. And at this point in his second term, he’s actually running slightly ahead of Obama and Bush at this point in their second terms.

Gavin Newsom has been a political fixture in the Golden State since the late 1990s, first serving on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors from 1997 to 2004 before serving as mayor of San Francisco from 2004 to 2011. After that, he was elected as California’s Lieutenant Governor, a position he held for eight years until he was sworn in as the state’s Governor in January 2019.

He’s term-limited out now, with the next gubernatorial election to be held in 2026. Though there are murmurings about whether former Vice President Kamala Harris will jump into the growing field of contenders, Newsom’s focus is not on speculation about the candidates nor endorsements. Instead, he is rumored to have his eye on the ultimate prize for an entrenched, ambitious politico: the presidency of the United States.

“This was not really a speech about California, which, based on his record, he seems to care little about—this was his first real salvo in the ’28 presidential elections,” my colleague Bob Hoge wrote in response to the disastrous, lie-filled speech Newsom gave amid the LA riots. “He knows he’s watching his chances go up in smoke like an electric vehicle in downtown Los Angeles, and this was his desperate attempt to right the ship.”
