A Federal Appeals Court has upheld President Trump’s XO requiring biological sex determines which prison an inmate is assigned to. The argument hinged on the claim biological males faced “cruel and unusual punishment” by being forced to be imprisoned with men.

A federal appeals court on Friday allowed for the biologically accurate placement of transgender prisoners in accordance with President Donald Trump’s directive on housing inmates by biological sex, a ruling that incarcerated women hope will help their lawsuits aimed at moving biological males out of women’s prisons across the country.

Trump, upon taking office, issued an executive order directing the Federal Bureau of Prisons to undo a Biden-era transgender accommodation policy that placed biological males who identified as female in women-only facilities.

Seventeen transgender inmates, all biological males, then anonymously sued the Trump administration to prevent their transfer from women’s prisons. They won preliminary injunctions in district courts, which have blocked their transfers since February 2025.

Last week, a three-judge appellate panel vacated the injunctive relief, finding that the transgender litigants in Jane Doe v. Todd Blanche failed to prove that reassigning them to male-designated units would constitute “cruel and unusual punishment” in violation of their Eighth Amendment rights.

A federal grand jury indicted the far-left Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) on Tuesday for allegedly making fraudulent payments to racist groups, including the Ku Klux Klan (KKK).

“The SPLC is manufacturing racism to justify its existence,” Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a statement announcing the charges. “Using donor money to allegedly profit off Klansmen cannot go unchecked. This Department of Justice will hold the SPLC and every other fraudulent organization operating with the same deceptive playbook accountable. No entity is above the law.”

According to a Justice Department press release, the SPLC — which has often put targets on the backs of nonviolent conservative organizations by falsely labeling them as “hate groups” — has been charged with 11 counts of “wire fraud, false statements to a federally insured bank, and conspiracy to commit concealment money laundering.” Per the presser, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Alabama Northern Division “filed two forfeiture actions to recover alleged proceeds of the organization’s fraud scheme.”

Final Thought – Friday, April 17, 2026

By Paul Gordon Collier, Editor

“Our heart has not turned back, nor have our steps departed from your way; yet you have broken us in the place of jackals and covered us with the shadow of death.

If we had forgotten the name of our God or spread out our hands to a foreign god, would not God discover this? For he knows the secrets of the heart.

Yet for your sake we are killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered. Awake! Why are you sleeping, O Lord? Rouse yourself! Do not reject us forever! Why do you hide your face? Why do you forget our affliction and oppression?

For our soul is bowed down to the dust; our belly clings to the ground. Rise up; come to our help! Redeem us for the sake of your steadfast love!”Psalm 44:18-26

“Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised— who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, ‘For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.’

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”Romans 8:34-39

“Over 100 million + street children struggle daily in the developing world, with a significant concentration in Asia. Our mission is to change this reality. By supporting well-run orphanages and children’s homes, we provide safe havens where children receive the care and tools they need to transform their lives.”Asian Pacific Children’s Fund Website

Our founder Don McAlvany is also the founder of the Asian Pacific Children’s Fund, a Christian ministry that rescues neglected and orphaned children in the Asian Pacific, gives them a safe thriving space to grow up in, introduces them to the gospel, and invites them to a disciplined life.

From their website: Our journey began (in 2005) when Don and Molly McAlvany first visited their youngest son volunteering in an Indonesian orphanage. From there, it spread to India, the Philippines, Nepal, and Myanmar, with 600+ children under our care. Through partnerships with well-run orphanages, APCF ensures that children receive the love, education, and support they need to break free from poverty and create self-sufficient futures.

Their work in Myanmar is what brings a story to us that comes from Don’s ministry. This story captures the spirit of adversity overcome with hope. Here we have a story of a dark cloud centering around a former source for light, the Adonai Children’s Home.

Though they walked in the shadows of death, they emerged in a place of hope. Yet that place of hope needs more help to reach its full potential.

We have been following the ongoing developments in Myanmar after the military seized power in February 2021. The military’s ruling party lost in a landslide election in November 2020. That election saw Aung San Suu elected as their new Prime Minister.

While the transition to power was allowed to continue, the military was plotting a coup they would execute just before the new government was set to take power. On February 1, 2021, the military took power, arresting the newly elected Prime Minister (who remains imprisoned today), and triggering a violent, armed civil war.

The Asian Pacific Children’s Fund, co-headed by our former Editor and our founder, Don McAlvany, has long been working in these very lands, rescuing orphans from neglect. Now, the challenge to children in Myanmar was ratcheted up.

Some of the acts of violence the Junta is accused of committing include airstrikes on villages, random rounding up of insurrectionists, kidnapping children and adults to become new soldiers, and even intentional mass murder as a means of terroristic deterrence.

These are only some of the deadliest obstacles children of Myanmar face daily. They are hardly the only ones.

The UN has estimated 17.6 million children in Myanmar require some form of humanitarian aid, 1.6 million have been intentionally displaced, and over 55,000 civilian buildings have been destroyed by Junta forces.

In the midst of such turmoil sat one of the APCF’s children’s homes, the Adonai Home. Around them, children fell victim to rape, torture, and murder, as well as forced soldier conscription. Their sense of safety was long gone. The shadow of death was looming over them. They felt their sense of safety evaporate overnight and turn into extreme distress by the time the final decision had to be made.

At 5:00AM, on February 28, 2024, the sense of impeding death had already made the air seem palpably thick with threats. A fog of trepidation hung over the home. It was time to leave. There was no other choice.

The decision to travel to the Indian border could not have been made lightly. Even where the Junta did not hold the land, surprise checkpoints or air raids made the land unsafe for travel, especially for children, a highly prized spoil of war for the Junta.

Yet traveling in such perilous conditions was far safer than remaining where they were, for it was only a matter of time before the Junta would directly threaten the safety of the children and the staff of the home.

For security reasons, we cannot give you the details of their trip as they traveled to India.

Whether the journey was hours or days, the time spent making it to the Indian border must have felt like death was hanging over them, yet hope was within grasp.

They would reach India, having traveled to the India Gate directly. Fortunately, the Junta’s control of the land is not high on its borders or in rural regions (though its air strikes and other incursions on these lands continue to this day), so our intrepid sojourners were able to safely make it to India.

Once in India, the good work began, free of immediate threat of death or harm, to build a sustainably flourishing space for the children to grow up in.

One of our self-stewardship principles is the idea that whatever the circumstances, whatever the current limitations, we seek opportunity within those parameters to optimize our sustainable flourishing potentials.

Plainly spoken, you do the best with what you are given while you yet seek to improve the circumstances overall. This community has flourished in the first part and now seeks help pursuing the second part of that former statement.

At first, they were received by safe house hosts. There were taken to a safe house where they had time for devotion, prayer, and a shared meal. They then settled into a more permanent situation, a cement storage basement, which itself was located in a remote Indian village.

They would be living in a cement storage basement, though it could not stay like that if they were to be sustained, let alone if they were to flourish.

With the help of the children, the caregivers transformed a cement storage basement into a habitable home for themselves and the children.

In current year, the Junta has held a dubious election which hasn’t swayed the opinions of the people who resisted them before the election.

Their hold on the land has not improved since the winners were announced and the new government took power. While they are no longer “officially” a junta, to many of the people of Myanmar they still are.

The Adonai Home still exists in that remote village in India. They work everyday to improve their circumstances.

The remoteness of the village means the Home must be as self-sustaining as it can or supplied reliably from outside. This is where APCF has stepped in, provided mattresses, warm clothing, blankets, a water purifier, a refrigerator, and a washing machine.

They’ve built and/or repaired ventilation, electricity, and plumbing. They built wardrobes and a front door, and they even constructed a bamboo fence with a locking iron gate “to protect the children from local threats.”

The biggest improvement might be the garden the children have been successfully running, where they grow pumpkin, cucumber, ladyfinger, and corn. From the APCF website, “Daily worship, prayer, and praise became their anchor through the fear and anxiety of displacement.”

While they have come a long way, there’s still much to be done. What they hope for most is to secure land so they can build a new and permanent home base, in buildings that are designed and built for serving neglected and orphaned children

The goal has been (and has been achieved for hundreds of children through APCF) to create for neglected children a sustainably flourishing and God-honoring environment while they become mature men and women. The paraphrasing is mine, but I believe I captured the spirit of their ministry.

What they need now is more support, especially financial, as they seek to transition from a cement storage basement to an intended children’s home. To do that, visit their website at https://www.apcf.world/donate-support-orphanages-asia. If you have cryptocurrency, you can donate as well. You can also donate stocks and DAFs.

The laws have one thing in common, they both protect rights enumerated in the 1st Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. These rights are the right to religious liberty and the right to freedom of speech.

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force “has been lackadaisical and negligent for 20 years,” Kennedy told the House Ways and Means Committee.

Kennedy announced last July that he intended to dismiss all 16 panel members of the task force because he viewed them as too “woke.”

“We’re now bringing new members on who have a clear mission,” Kennedy told the committee on Thursday.

Politico reported that “some public health advocates worry that Kennedy would remake the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force to align it with his views, many of which go against mainstream science, the same way he overhauled the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices that advises the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, appointing members who shared his skepticism of vaccine safety.”

The task force was formed in 1984 to advise the federal government on preventive health matters. The Affordable Care Act in 2010 broadened its mandate, giving it the power to determine which screenings, counseling and preventive medications insurers must cover at no cost to patients.

In recent years, however, the task force had undergone mission creep. It developed a formal Health Equity Framework to systematically consider race, ethnicity, sex, gender, and social risk factors to be used in all of their recommendation processes.

Researchers from Northwestern University have invented a fuel cell that is powered by microbes found in soil. Northwestern alumnus Bill Yen, who led the work, said of their proof-of-concept, “We need to find alternatives that can provide low amounts of energy to power a decentralized network of devices… we looked to soil microbial fuel cells, which use special microbes to break down soil and use that low amount of energy to power sensors. As long as there is organic carbon in the soil for the microbes to break down, the fuel cell can potentially last forever.”

The device, roughly the size of a paperback book, produces small amounts of power by capturing energy released as these microorganisms break down organic material in dirt.

This soil-powered system is designed to run underground sensors used in precision agriculture and environmental monitoring. It offers a potential alternative to traditional batteries, which contain toxic and flammable materials, rely on complex global supply chains, and contribute to growing electronic waste.

An Oklahoma couple and their pets got to safety in the nick of time on Friday when a possible tornado hit their community.

Shari and Dwain Short live in Ponca City, where video footage recorded outside their home shows the tense moments as the sky darkened and the wind whipped around their property, Fox Weather reported Saturday.

The clip shows Shari opening the door to what appears to be an underground storm shelter. The trees sway back and forth in the wind and the grey sky looks ominous as the couple prepares for the worst.

Moments later, Dwain is seen carrying a dog as he climbs into the shelter behind his wife. The second he tries to shut the door, the wind picks up. Dwain emerges from the shelter for a moment, then goes back inside as the storm hits.

Debris flies through the air, the camera shakes violently, and outside lights flash as gust after gust of wind hits their property and the surrounding community. A flash is seen in the sky seconds before the video ends:

In a social media post Sunday, Shari recalled how intensely frightening the experience was for them before acknowledging God’s hand in it.

“Trials teach us what we are; they dig up the soil and let us see what we are made of.”Charles Spurgeon

Since last we checked in on our Riqueday Castle project, we had been struck by a prolonged subzero ice storm that left us in limbo wondering how much damage had been done. Initial findings suggested the results might not be as bad as we feared.

Last weekend, we conducted a thorough inspection of the Riqueday Castle, where we learned the primary damage was to the heating element pipes in our basement. The pipes to our two kitchens and two bathrooms all turned out to be fine, save for one leak in the drain of one of the bathroom’s sinks.

Our castle is heated with steam, which comes through water heated up by a natural gas furnace. The pipes that lead to the registers, the actual heating systems, were the ones to suffer damage, with MOST of the pipes in the basement becoming disconnected.

Fortunately, we did not have the water turned on at the time of the disaster, so there was no flooding (save for minor flooding in our mezzanine bathroom), which would have cost damages we most likely would not have recovered from.

As for the damage to the pipes in the basement, the overall cost of repair will range between $3K and $5K. We have until next winter to get the pipes fully repaired. We plan on having the work done one section at a time. We have a contractor in the queue waiting to start work.

Due to the prolonged days of freezing sub-zero weather without heat, any cracks in our walls got worse, which affected a part of the sanctuary and our first-floor kitchen. Both will need wall repairs, with the kitchen also needing some ceiling repairs. We have a handyman who will be addressing these small repair issues.

It does appear we have two registers which will need to be replaced; these will cost another $800-$1K (including installation costs). While the overall damages are more than we thought after our previous inspection, they are still far less than was originally feared.

Outside of the new damages we must now repair, our initial targets for major restoration are the roof and the basement floor. We will be getting estimates for a new roof. We plan on installing the new basement floor(s) ourselves.

After the roof and the basement floors (which will also include waterproofing and a thorough steam cleaning), our next step is to make my brother’s quarters habitable (which includes installing a shower in the first-floor bathroom) and my wife’s and my quarters habitable (which includes installing a bathroom/shower on the second floor).

At this point, we will begin to be able to use our space to serve the community around us.

Beyond this, we have doors to replace, outside stairs to fix, a basement redesign, and more. We envision this project will take up to five years before it is “done.” We had originally planned for three years, but our circumstances have changed.

One reason we think it will take this long is we are working on more than Riqueday Castle, we are also working on our Harrisburg Estate. This property belongs to my mother, who hopes to see the property become a Hope Castle like Riqueday Castle.

Her property includes nearly a half-acre of unoccupied land (a rarity in the inner city of Harrisburg, which is where the property lies), a row of 8 garages in the back (4 on each side, with one facing inward in the property and the other facing out on the alley behind the property), and a four-unit 3-story apartment building.

The two properties, Riqueday Castle and the Harrisburg estate, serve radically different communities. The Canton property (Riqueday Castle) serves a 95 plus percent white community that is overwhelmingly conservative and Christian. The Harrisburg property serves a diverse community with a slight majority black population that is overwhelmingly progressive.

It is our hope that as our castles come online, the communities that emerge from them will have ambassador exchanges, with Harrisburg members spending some time in Canton and vice versa.

We do not recommend people begin two large projects at the same time such as we have, but this emerged out of necessity, not design. Our mother’s health is such that she needs help now, which includes simply holding on to her property (which my brother, Bill, has been helping her to do, including paying property taxes).

Currently, my brother owns his home in Blossburg and we (my wife and I) own our home in Bethlehem. We had originally planned to sell our homes and use those funds to further invest in the Riqueday Castle, then when our mother’s needs became apparent, we added Harrisburg to the plan.

We still might end up having to do that, but we are working on funding plans to potentially hold on to all four properties under one trust, with Blossburg serving as a support to Canton (Riqueday Castle) and Bethlehem being its own future “colony.” For now, what we hope is that our daughter becomes the steward of the home while she continues to go to college in the region.

Our home in Bethlehem is not large enough to be a fully functioning castle, nor is Bill’s home in Blossburg. In the end, we might have to sell both homes, but for now we plan on holding on to them, believing their uses will become apparent in due time.

For now, BOTH homes are still needed. Bill’s home will be a transition home for our mother (when she and one or both of us aren’t at Harrisburg) as we continue to prepare the castle for occupation.

Our home in Bethlehem costs less to hold on to (including taxes) than paying for room and board for our daughter’s university. She lives less than 10 minutes from her university, which will be her home until she gets her master’s in psychology (at least another 3-4 years).

Due to the shift in our focus from one Hope Castle (Riqueday), we are now going to call our Project the Hope Estates Project. Our monthly updates will focus on the whole project, which includes Harrisburg, Blossburg, Canton, and Bethlehem.

We ask our readers inclined to do so to pray for us as we seek to build sources for more revenue that will enable us to fund this project. We are working right now on a version of MIA that will serve a broader audience. It will be called Bellwether Intel. It derives its name from our Bellwether Deep Dive reports.

There will be considerable overlap in content between the two projects, but some significant differences. For instance, BWI will not include a Final Thought feature. Generally, MIA is serving a Christian, mostly conservative, and primarily American audience. BWI will serve an independent, assumed mixed-belief and non-belief audience that isn’t exclusively American.

While MIA analyses news from a Christian Americanist perspective, BWI will analyze news from a more “neutral” perspective, or, rather, a geopolitical reality of power perspective.

The subscriptions we offer BWI will be different than MIA. As we announced in a past issue, the price on MIA will not change, but BWI subscriptions will cost more than MIA’s, with a lock on new subscriptions to follow AFTER BWI fully comes online. For our longtime loyal readers, especially those who were there when the founder, Don McAlvany was the editor, nothing will change for you.

So long as we have legacy subscribers, we will continue to serve you, which includes allowing for renewals even after we freeze new subscriptions.

We will update you as that project develops.

The Harrisburg Estate is about 90 minutes away from Washington, D.C., which is where potential clients are for Regal Blue Media, the parent company of MIA. As soon as we fix up the top apartment in the Harrisburg Estate, brother Bill will be able to visit D.C. more often to generate more business for our personal and opposition research, marketing, and political campaign services.

If you’re in the market for any such services, let us know at miamailroom@gmail.com.

In addition to these potential income streams, we continue to rely on stock dividends for revenue. On that front, my wife and I are educating ourselves on investing to figure out how, if possible, we can increase our stock dividend income.

The bottom line is this; To make our Hope Estates project a reality, we will have to raise more revenue. As we are not interested in forming a non-profit at this time, this means we must raise the funds ourselves. THIS is why we ask our readers to pray for us as we seek paths to fund our project into existence.

Next week, we will have an update on Don McAlvany’s ministry for our Final Thought. We originally planned on covering that story this week but flipped the order as we had no real Hope Castle update in our last monthly issue (where these updates will regularly appear).

Yuancheng Ryan Lu could barely breathe while he waited for his labmate to adjust the microscope focus.

On the slide in front of them were the results of Lu’s latest attempt to turn back time for ageing retinal nerve cells. If it worked, the method he was using could help to restore eyesight to older adults with glaucoma, an age-related condition that damages the optic nerve. And perhaps some day it could be used to rejuvenate organs such as the kidneys or liver — maybe even the brain.

Lu had spent three years trying different approaches — and had failed. But this time looked different. Lu had introduced three genes into mouse eyes that should revert cells to a younger developmental state. And there under the microscope he thought he could see signs of new growth. Now, he was asking his labmate to confirm his suspicions. “I was so nervous,” says Lu, now a geneticist at the Whitehead Institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Houck had been charged with violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act after pushing away a Planned Parenthood volunteer who was harassing his 12-year-old son. Although local police and the district attorney rejected the volunteer’s attempt to bring Houck to court, and a municipal court dismissed a lawsuit against him, the Department of Justice picked up the case, threatening Houck with a maximum 11-year prison sentence. Houck agreed to turn himself in peacefully, but federal agents ignored his compliance, staging an aggressive arrest in front of his wife and seven children. In custody, Houck was chained to a table for six hours.

The motions were filed on Tuesday, just days before an appeals court was set to hear some of the defendants’ requests to reverse their seditious conspiracy convictions. President Donald Trump commuted these individuals’ lengthy prison sentences last year, but they did not obtain pardons.

The first court filing applies to the following individuals, who are members of the right-wing group, the Proud Boys: Ethan Nordean, 36, of Washington; Joseph Biggs, 42, of Florida; Zachary Rehl, 38, of Pennsylvania; and Dominic Pezzola, 49, of New York. Each of them was convicted in the US District Court for the District of Columbia on seditious conspiracy charges and several other felonies, including obstruction of an official proceeding, according to court documents.

Nordean was sentenced to 18 years in prison, Biggs was sentenced to 17 years in prison, Rehl was sentenced to 15 years in prison, and Pezzola was sentenced to 10 years in prison. The Proud Boys are known for street fighting members of Antifa, a designated terrorist organization.

“The United States respectfully requests that the Court vacate the defendants’ convictions and remand to the district court so that the government may move to dismiss the indictment with prejudice under Rule 48(a),” the motion states.

One of the most progressive colleges in the nation, Hampshire College, announced Tuesday it will shut down permanently, as it is out of cash and out of options.

“The College no longer has the resources to sustain full operations and meet our regulatory responsibilities,” President Jenn Chrisler stated in an announcement, adding the Board of Trustees voted to permanently close the college following the fall 2026 semester.

“We want to assure you that Hampshire’s board made its decision only after exploring every possible alternative,” Chrisler wrote.

The private Massachusetts liberal arts college — which openly touts its embrace of progressive concepts — had grappled with low enrollment and big budget deficits for several years.

But the budget woes never stopped campus leaders from funding programs advancing LGBTQ and DEI concepts amid laying off employees and slashing departments, as The College Fix previously reported.

Hampshire College made headlines years ago when it took down the U.S. flag to promote multiculturalism. More recently it offered Florida students wanting to flee the state’s conservatism a streamlined enrollment process.

As The College Fix previously reported:

Despite the longterm budget woes, campus leaders have continued to emphasize left-leaning programs and curricula over more traditional studies.

“Since the rocky year of 2019, Hampshire has undergone a major curriculum transformation, replacing traditional majors and departments with curricula focused on addressing pressing global issues such as climate change and racism,” Higher Ed Dive reported in July.

In recent months, Hampshire College has also touted its efforts to study and promote topics such as Drag and Environmental JusticeDisrupting and Dismantling White Supremacy, and Inclusive Weightlifting.

“Hampshire College made a big deal about offering spots to all of the left-wing New College of Florida students who wanted to leave after we eliminated their DEI and gender studies programs. Now Hampshire College is shutting down—go woke, go broke,” conservative activist Christopher Rufo posted on X in response to the news.

A federal appeals court has halted a controversial attempt by a Democrat-aligned district judge to pursue criminal contempt proceedings against several Trump administration officials, delivering a sharp rebuke to the lower court’s actions.

In a brief, unsigned order issued April 14, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit vacated an earlier ruling by U.S. District Judge James Boasberg.

The appeals court ordered the activist judge to terminate the contempt investigation he launched.

The dispute stems from the Trump administration’s deportation of illegal immigrants, identified as suspected gang members, to El Salvador’s Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT).

In 2023, after Stewart Rhodes, the founder of the far-right Oath Keepers militia group, was sentenced to 18 years in prison for his role in the January 6, 2021, attack on Congress, the Justice Department noted the stiff sentence reflected the court’s conclusion that Rhodes’ “conduct was terrorism.”

“The Oath Keepers plotted for months to violently disrupt the peaceful transfer of power from one administration to the next,” then–Attorney General Merrick Garland said. “The Justice Department will continue to do everything in our power to hold accountable those criminally responsible for the January 6th attack on our democracy.”

The head of NASA said the agency’s historic Artemis 2 moon mission, which sent the first astronauts around the moon in over 50 years, is only the beginning of a new lunar “relay race” that will ultimately lead to a crewed landing and moon base in the years ahead.

The U.S. space agency chief Jared Isaacman laid out what NASA is trying to make happen after the Artemis 2 mission, which concluded with a safe splashdown on Friday (April 10), in a livestreamed speech and discussion today (April 14) addressing attendees at the 2026 Space Symposium in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

“It was the opening act in America’s return to the moon, and it was a success,” Isaacman said in the speech, paraphrasing the crew’s previous comments that the moon mission is part of a relay race. The mission will be “remembered as the moment people started to believe again, to believe that America can still take on the near-impossible and deliver extraordinary outcomes,” Isaacman added.
