A member of the House Freedom Caucus is taking an unprecedented step to endorse the primary challenger fighting to unseat the ultra conservative group’s chair.

Rep. Warren Davidson (R-Ohio) is endorsing John McGuire, a state senator who is in a highly watched race against Rep. Bob Good (R-Va.), McGuire’s campaign first shared with POLITICO.

“I love this country with a soldier’s passion. I’ve served in Congress since 2016, and we need reinforcements to help Make America Great Again. I’m happy to join President Trump by supporting and endorsing John McGuire for Congress,” Davidson said in a statement, describing McGuire as conservative, effective and someone who will drain the swamp.

He added: “I look forward to serving with him in the 119th Congress to support President Trump and the America First agenda. Drain the swamp!”

NEW ROCHELLE, New York — The New York Democrat running to unseat Rep. Jamaal Bowman has an unusual double advantage against the incumbent: local political clout and the backing of a national pro-Israel group.

And it’s Westchester County Executive George Latimer’s ties at home — even more so than his position on the war in Gaza — that could deny the Squad member a third term.

Latimer has picked up endorsements from fellow local leaders week after week — including the mayor and three City Council members in Yonkers, where Bowman lives. And while just 10 percent of Bowman’s campaign contributions come from his neighbors, more than half of Latimer’s donations come from within the district.

Latimer may not have any national name recognition compared to Bowman — who has built his reputation in Congress as a left-wing agitator for sweeping change nationwide — but he enjoys a different kind of celebrity. He’s the Cher of Westchester County, known as just “George” to many in the suburban enclave north of New York City thanks to his 35 years in state and local government.

The Chinese nuclear arsenal is expanding and quickly, according to a new report from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) published Monday.

The number of operational nuclear warheads globally is increasing every year, the report found, with the most rapidly-increasing stockpile belonging to China. The Institute predicted the Chinese arsenal of active intercontinental nuclear missiles could grow to match the American and Russian armaments by 2030.

“While the global total of nuclear warheads continues to fall as cold war-era weapons are gradually dismantled, regrettably we continue to see year-on-year increases in the number of operational nuclear warheads,” SIPRI Director Dan Smith said in a statement. “This trend seems likely to continue and probably accelerate in the coming years and is extremely concerning.”

The Russian navy owns just one aircraft carrier. It’s been out of service since 2019 and may never sail again.

But the “carrier” that dictator Vladimir Putin has bragged about for years isn’t the sad, outdated, and accident-prone Admiral Kuznetsov: It’s Crimea. On the anniversary of the 2014 invasion in which Russia captured the Crimean Peninsula, Putin rolled out an old nickname to describe how a captured Crimea allowed Russia to dominate the Black Sea.

“I recalled that Crimea is often called the unsinkable aircraft carrier,” said Putin. “This is what prompted me to say that Crimea had returned to its home harbor.”

You would think after the felonious moron magnet praised “the Great Hannibal Lecter” last month, his handlers freaked the fuck out and explained to him that expressing admiration for a serial killer is bad, but nope. He did it again. CNN’s Jim Acosta read a few of the more batshit crazy things Donald Trump said to Republicans during his policy meeting when he returned to the scene of the crime.

“But during his remarks to House Republicans, Trump also complimented the fictional serial killer, Hannibal Lecter,” Acosta said.

“He reportedly spoke of a great romance with Nancy Pelosi in Another Life, whined about Taylor Swift, and called Milwaukee, which is hosting the Republican National Convention next month, a quote, horrible city, a moment Milwaukee’s hometown newspaper prominently featured on its front page this morning,” he added.

Gun rights activist Kyle Rittenhouse wants you to know that he’s very pleased with the Supreme Court, after the justices on Friday overturned a federal ban on bump stocks—devices that are attached to semi-automatic firearms to make them shoot as quickly as machine guns.

Bump stocks were banned under the Trump administration with bipartisan support after a shooter in Las Vegas used one to spray more than 1,000 rounds into a crowd at a concert, murdering 60 people and injuring hundreds more. As gun control groups and families of mass shooting victims mourned the Supreme Court’s decision on Friday, the 21-year-old Rittenhouse went online to share his own thoughts: “Time to go celebrate and buy a bump stock!” he wrote on X.

Author Ramin Setoodeh said that he spent extensive time interviewing Trump, and the former president has severe memory issues.

Ramin Setoodeh said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe:

I really got to know Donald Trump post presidency and I got to see what he was like. And over the weekend, he was talking about how Joe Biden needs to take a cognitive test. Joe Biden, you know, isn’t all there, Donald Trump has severe memory issues as the journalist who spent the most time with him, I have to say he couldn’t remember things, he couldn’t even remember me.

We spent an hour together in 2021 in May. And then a few months later, I went back to the White House, I went back to Trump Tower to talk to him about his time in the White House. And he had, I said, he, you know, he had this vacant look on his face. And I said, do you remember me? And he said, no, he had no recollection of our lengthy interview that we had and he wasn’t doing a lot of interviews at that time. So I think that the American public really needs to see this portrait of Donald Trump because this shows what he is like and who he is. And who he has always been.

Fifty years ago, three of the justices Richard Nixon appointed to the Supreme Court joined in an 8-0 decision in the Watergate tapes case that effectively ended his presidency, ruling only 16 days after hearing the case. Nixon resigned from office just over two weeks later.

Now, three justices named by then-President Donald Trump sit on the court as it weighs whether and when he must stand trial on criminal charges that he conspired to overturn his 2020 election loss, a case they heard seven weeks ago. Two others also named by Republican presidents have brushed off criticism that they should step aside from the case over questions about their impartiality.

Earlier this month, former President Donald Trump held his first campaign rally as a convicted felon at Dream City Church in Phoenix, Arizona, hosted by the arch-conservative student group Turning Point USA. This wasn’t Trump’s first appearance at Dream City Church; he also held a rally there with Turning Point USA in 2020. For events like this, it’s an ideal venue: A weekly attendance of around 21,000 believers makes this one of the largest churches not just in Arizona but in the nation.

Fox News host Harris Faulkner made a bizarre analogy favoring diminished Donald.

She’s upset that MSNBC contributors have praised President Biden and are unfriendly to Trump.

Do you understand the Fox News/Harris Faulkner “logic”?

Faulkner played a video mashup.

MSNBC: This was a great week for the president.

He’s having these back-to-back weeks both the national stage and domestically.

The president is playing chess, and the former president, at best, is playing like Hungry Hungry Hippo.

Well, if that, maybe Uno. I’m gonna give him Uno, maybe. He’s playing Uno.

Uno, and somebody keeps telling him to draw four.

The Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday revealed new trips and flights that Justice Clarence Thomas took on Republican billionaire Harlan Crow’s dime — including some that Thomas has not previously disclosed.

The documentation is the result of a November subpoena issued to Crow by the panel’s Democrats and includes three private jet trips that Crow provided for Thomas.

The most recent unreported private jet travel was in June 2021 when Crow flew Thomas between Washington D.C. and San Jose, Calif. Other private jet trips occurred in May 2017 between St. Louis, Mo., Kalispell, Mont. and Dallas Texas and March 2019 flights between Washington D.C. and Savannah, Ga.

The documentation also includes travel that Thomas disclosed in records that were made public last week, including private jet and yacht travel for a July 2019 trip to Indonesia.

“Joe Biden is not real,” reads the text in a recent Instagram video.

The evidence that the commander-in-chief is an impostor? A screenshot from Ancestry.com “showing he actually died in 2018 in Guantanamo, Cuba.”

This post was flagged as part of Meta’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram.)

As Snopes reported, such a page did appear on Ancestry.com but appears to have since been deleted. But the page was archived May 28 and June 12. It says Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. — the president’s full name —  and includes other factual details about his life such as his birth place (Scranton, Pennsylvania) and birth date (Nov. 20, 1948).

But it also says he died in 2018 in Guantánamo, Cuba, and was buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

Last Friday, my colleague Stephanie Mencimer had the distinct honor—or misfortune—of witnessing Rudy Giuliani’s apparent attempt to convince the Christian right to help him amid his dire financial troubles. That effort saw Giuliani airing crude, conspiratorial rhetoric before the faithful which at one point, saw Giuliani calling Fani Willis, the Fulton County district attorney in Donald Trump’s Georgia case, a “ho.”

Now Willis is responding, condemning the conservative critics who have relentlessly targeted her since she took on Trump’s Georgia election interference case. While speaking to leaders of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in Georgia, Willis appeared to single out the former New York City mayor’s denigrating remarks. She declined to call out Giuliani by name, but the subject of her remarks was evident.

CEOs who were described as Trumpish came away from a meeting with the ex-president concerned that he was meandering and couldn’t keep a straight thought.

CNBC reported, “I will say I was surprised. I spoke to a number of CEOs who, I would say, walked into the meeting being Trump supporter-ish, or thinking that they might be leaning that direction, who said that he was remarkably meandering, could not keep a straight thought, was all over the map, and that they, which may be not surprising, but was interesting to me because these were people who I think might have been actually predisposed to him and actually walked out of the room Less predisposed to, I’m actually predisposed to thinking this is not necessarily, as one person said, this may not be any different or better than a Biden thought, if you’re thinking that way.”

The Department of Justice has notified Speaker Mike Johnson that it won’t prosecute Attorney General Merrick Garland for contempt of Congress because Garland didn’t commit a crime.

Assistant Attorney General Carlos Uriarte, wrote to Johnson, “Consistent with this longstanding position and uniform practice, the Department has determined that the responses by Attorney General Garland to the subpoenas issued by the Committees did not constitute a crime, and accordingly the Department will not bring the congressional contempt citation before a grand jury or take any other action to prosecute the Attorney General.”

House Republicans have learned nothing from the bogus Mayorkas impeachment, as they tried tp get the Attorney General prosecuted for non-criminal activity because they want the tapes of the interview that Special Counsel Robert Hur did with President Biden.

Biden asserted executive privilege over the tapes, which means that even if Garland wanted to release them, he couldn’t.

On the day convicted felon Donald Trump made his triumphal (?) return to the US Capitol, which is still standing although his thugs ransacked it on January 6, CNN published a great story about all the terrible things Ohio Senator J.D. Vance said and promoted about Trump on social media and elsewhere before (and shortly after) Trump was elected. Vance, you might have heard, is reportedly on the short list to be Trump’s vice president.

OK, I know: These people can’t be shamed (e.g., Senators Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Lindsey Graham; the list goes on). As long as you ultimately kiss the ring, you get total absolution in Trump world.

Attorney General Merrick Garland called the increasing attacks against the Department of Justice “dangerous to our democracy” in a Washington Post op-ed published Tuesday morning.

In the piece, Garland defended the DOJ against recent threats made by allies of former President Donald Trump to defund the work of special counsel Jack Smith, who is prosecuting Trump on charges of amassing classified documents and blocking an investigation into the matter as well as attempting to overturn the 2020 election. Garland described a department that was facing conspiracy theories and threats of violence “like never before.”

“Continued unfounded attacks against the Justice Department’s employees are dangerous for people’s safety,” Garland writes. “… This must stop.”

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), a prominent member of the Judiciary Committee, is raising questions about an interview Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito gave to The Wall Street Journal’s editorial page in July.

In that interview, the conservative justice argued that “no provision in the Constitution gives [Congress] the authority to regulate the Supreme Court — period.” He gave the interview shortly after the same publication allowed him to refute a then-unpublished ProPublica report that Alito accepted a luxury fishing trip to Alaska paid for by a prominent GOP donor.

“I note that the Supreme Court is the only place in all of government where issues of this nature have no place or means of investigation or resolution,” Whitehouse wrote in a letter to Alito released Monday. “So far, my questions regarding these events seem to have disappeared into a black hole of indifference.”

Inflation slowed in May more than anyone was predicting. The markets soared in response to this latest round of good news, which comes just days after a “blowout” employment report showed broad-based gains in all areas of the job market.

In January, Donald Trump told conservative radio host Lou Dobbs that he was pulling for the economy to crash in 2024. Trump described the economy as “fragile,” said that the nation was about to “hit a wall,” and worried that he’d be left looking like Herbert Hoover if the stock market didn’t crash before the election.

That wasn’t the first time Trump predicted an economic crash. In the 2020 election, Trump centered the potential of a stock market crash if Joe Biden was elected in his campaign speech. He also predicted that Biden would bring on an economic depression, and he’s been making more predictions of doom ever since.

Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.), chair of the House Armed Services Committee, slammed President Biden as “offensive and wrong” for objecting to a provision in the annual defense bill that grants a major pay raise to junior enlisted troops.

The White House Office of Management and Budget said in a Tuesday statement that it “strongly opposes making a significant, permanent change to the basic pay schedule” before an upcoming military compensation review.

Rogers, however, said the nearly 20 percent pay raise for junior troops was included in the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) because many service members “are relying on food banks” and other benefits to eat.

President Biden promised to put the full weight of the federal government behind getting the Port of Baltimore reopened after the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed, and just 11 weeks later, the port is fully reopened.

The President responded to the news that the port is fully reopened in a statement:

I made clear that my Administration would move heaven and earth to reopen the Port of Baltimore – one of our nation’s largest shipping hubs. Today, thanks to the tireless work by the men and women in the Unified Command, the full navigation channel is now open to all vessel traffic, allowing a full return of commerce to the Port of Baltimore.

Within minutes of the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, the U.S. Coast Guard arrived on the scene. They established a Unified Command the same day to support rescue and recovery operations, and worked with the Army Corps of Engineers around the clock to remove the wreckage from the channel. My Departments of Transportation and Labor and the Small Business Administration worked hand-in-hand with federal and state partners to limit supply chain impacts and keep costs down for Americans, and to support impacted workers and small businesses. I want to thank Governor Moore for his steadfast leadership, Mayor Scott, County Executive Olszewski, and the Maryland congressional delegation. The partnership between federal, state, and local governments, labor leaders like the longshoremen who keep this hub running, and the business community shows what we can get done when we work together.

A coalition of attorneys general from various states urged the Department of Justice (DOJ) to open a civil rights investigation into the murder of a Black Lives Matter (BLM) protester in 2020 after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) pardoned his killer two weeks ago.

The group of attorneys general, all Democrats, said that Garrett Foster, the protestor, was “exercising” his First Amendment right at the time when he was shot. They also slammed the case, saying the facts of it were “egregious.”

The group, in their letter addressed to Attorney General Merrick Garland, expressed concern over the “stand your ground” law, which Abbott mentioned when announcing Daniel Perry’s pardon in mid-May.

The new documentary Bad Faith, directed by Stephen Ujlaki and Christopher Jacob Jones, begins with footage familiar to many Americans: an army of insurrectionists adorned in stars, stripes, and military gear storming the Capitol to stop the certification of the 2020 election results. It was a watershed moment that left many Americans wondering how we got here. Bad Faith seeks to help answer that question by looking at a crucial reason why American democracy ended up at a precipice: the rise of Christian nationalism.

Christian nationalism, broadly speaking, is a movement that believes America is a Christian nation, and that our political institutions should be governed by Christian values. But as the film points out, the movement often privileges a very narrow definition of “Christian values”: “The big idea of Christian nationalism is that God made America for Christians, and not all Christians, but a particular kind of white Christian with a particular theology and a particular worldview,” Eboo Patel, founder of the nonprofit group Interfaith America, says in the documentary.
