– Kamala Harris was interrupted at her Wisconsin rally recently by someone who shouted in response to her comments on abortion “Jesus is Lord” and “Christ is King.” Kamala appeared to take offense at the mentioning of the name of Christ, firing back “Oh, I think you’re at the wrong rally.”

She added to her blasphemy by lying when she claimed, “I think you meant to go to the smaller one down the street.” Some Christians cite 2 Kings Chapter 19, where the Assyrian King Sennacherib had laid siege to Jerusalem, taunting God as he went, for which he would see his army smitten by the angel of the Lord (Christ to some). In the spring of 2022, Team Red was eagerly rubbing its hands together in anticipation of walloping the Democrats in the upcoming midterm elections. Then SCOTUS handed down its Dobbs v. Jackson decision, and we became the proverbial dog that caught the car.

Democrats seized their opportunity. I wrote at the time that “Democrats are going all-in on a massive abortion pep rally in the 2022 midterm races. They’re heading into the election cycle homestretch with a massive $124 million already spent on pro-abortion television ads — nearly 20 times what they spent pushing pregnancy termination in the 2018 midterms…”

In the end, we watched our promised red wave dry up into a pink trickle and instead had our a**es handed to us. And with its recently corrected status as a legislative matter, abortion promised to be a perennial issue. Right-wing strategists fretted that, with abortion on the table in every upcoming election from now on, there would always be enough single-issue pro-abortion voters to make it impossible for Republicans ever to win another election in almost every state as well as nationally.

I worried about this as well, but I was also hopeful that people would now be free to decide the abortion issue in a more regional and democratic manner. I figured it would settle into an uneasy peace sooner or later. Now, it looks as though the issue may already be easing down the importance scale, in time for the 2024 election.

Exhibit A is Florida. In April 2023, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the state’s “Heartbeat Protection Act,” banning most abortions after six weeks of gestation. The political strategist in me cringed. Florida’s deep red hue of recent years has been such a morale booster, that I was loathe to see it lost in the abortion wars. After legal challenges failed, the law went into effect last May, and I winced again. This election is crucial to America’s preservation, and if we couldn’t even hold Florida, what chance did the rest of the country have?

For instance, cross-sex hormones can cause heart problems, blood clots, and infertility; puberty blockers can inflict lasting damage on kids’ body parts including bones and brains; and surgeries leave youth mutilated and in pain from the body parts hacked off and artificially re-structured.

Wyoming radiologist Eric Cubin petitioned the federal court in Cheyenne last week to reinstate him to Wyoming’s Board of Medicine.

Cubin was appointed to the board, which oversees the licensing and regulations of the medical profession, by Republican Gov. Mark Gordon in 2023 and reappointed to another four-year term last March. Only weeks after his reappointment, the governor’s chief of staff notified him by telephone that the governor had removed him from the board. After hanging up, he received a letter from the governor, via email, that confirmed his removal and stated its cause.

Gordon wrote, “I have been made aware of your email to the members of the House of Representatives during this last legislative session regarding SF0099 in which you strongly encouraged the members to pass this legislation and criticized the Wyoming Medical Society’s opposition to this bill.”

SF0099 was originally named Chloe’s Law after Chloe Cole, a woman who was given hormone blockers and testosterone at the age of 13 and underwent a mastectomy at 15. The bill prohibits physicians and health care providers in Wyoming from performing surgeries and prescribing drugs to minor children “for the purposes of transitioning a child’s biological sex.”

While overwhelmingly supported by the public and passed by the legislature, Chloe’s Law was vehemently opposed by the Wyoming Medical Society (WMS), a lobbying group that carries a lot of clout in Cheyenne.

Often couples decide what to do with their excess children after they feel their families are “complete.” The sad reality of IVF, though, is that their families are never fully complete while they have frozen children out there waiting to be rescued by their parents. Under the city law, speech is restricted within 100 feet of the entrance to an abortion facility, and even further restricted within an 8-foot bubble around persons within that zone. On behalf of pro-life advocate Roger Lopez, Thomas More Society attorneys filed a federal lawsuit against the city on September 5, 2024. The lawsuit argues that the speech-restricting ordinance violates the First and Fourteenth Amendment rights of pro-life individuals to offer information on life-affirming alternatives, as well as the rights of the women entering an abortion facility to hear it.

The lawsuit alleges that San Diego amplifies favored pro-abortion speech and silences disfavored pro-life speech, despite the San Diego City Council’s past declaration that “it is vital to our democracy to allow free speech for all, even those with whom we vehemently agree.” The ordinance imposes a noise limitation within the 100-foot buffer that is softer than normal conversation and prohibits any act deemed to “harass or intimidate” in a vaguely defined manner. The Nebraska Supreme Court ruled Friday that a pro-abortion ballot measure that would enshrine the “right” to abortion in the state’s constitution can go before voters this November.

At issue was the “Protect Our Rights” amendment, which stipulates that “all persons shall have a fundamental right to abortion until fetal viability, or when needed to protect the life or health of the pregnant patient.” The Thomas More Society had filed a lawsuit against this ballot initiative, arguing that it used “remarkably misleading terms” and was “unconstitutionally riddled with separate subjects.”

In its ruling, the court determined that the amendment initiative “has a singleness of subject” and therefore does not violate the separate subjects rule.

“The fact that the drafters of the initiative have made certain choices regarding the specific limits, parameters, and definitions does not mean that each such provision is a separate subject,” Justice Lindsey Miller-Lerman wrote for the court in its unanimous decision.
