Abstract: Visual generators excel at rendering, but they confidently fabricate what they do not know. User requests are unbounded, evolving, and deeply long-tailed: new characters, trending entities, post-cutoff events, and more. This world-knowledge bottleneck is structural: generators are trained on fixed corpora, but the visual world is open-ended. We construct SearchGen-20K and SearchGen-Bench, with 20,839 prompts spanning twelve failure categories and twenty-two domains, paired with a pre-executed multimodal SearchGen-Corpus-1M to support offline, reproducible research. On SearchGen-Bench, frontier open generators score only 21 to 28 out of 100, a 40-point collapse invisible to existing benchmarks.

The asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter alone is estimated to contain between 700,000 and 1,700,000 asteroids with diameters of at least 0.6 miles. In addition, there are over 30,000 known near-Earth asteroids (NEAs), and about 2,000 to 3,000 more are discovered each year.

A common objection to asteroid mining is that it would cost too much to transport raw materials from an asteroid to Earth, rendering mining economically unviable. The fact that transporting materials is expensive is partly true, but the argument still misses the point. Experts such as John S. Lewis, who raised the issue as early as 1997 in his book Mining the Sky, argued above all that the raw materials extracted from asteroids should primarily be used in space.

Let’s stick with that one, given its sensible application to the Trump administration’s current quasi-licensing regime for frontier AI models. The effort has proven to be a vibey, ad hoc process that The Economist correctly describes as “opaque, unpredictable—and unsustainable.” Good news that a more structured process apparently is coming soon.

The Financial Times reports that, as early as this week, the White House will roll out “voluntary standards for the release of new models” that would “set benchmarks for models with cutting-edge cyber capabilities and establish release timelines in an effort to streamline future launches.” What’s more, the guidelines would clarify “who is able to access advanced models, both domestically and abroad, in a move that could set the stage for a global framework including US allies.” Definitely seems less haphazard, I’ll give it that.

Scientists say we have only explored a fraction of Earth’s Seas and Oceans

Less than 30% of the world’s ocean floor has been mapped to modern standards, meaning scientists still have a clearer view of the Space, Moon and Mars than of the seabed that covers most of Earth.The global effort known as the Seabed 2030 project has raised mapped coverage from about 6% in 2017 to roughly 28.7% as of early 2026, according to tracking data used by the programme and NOAA. That still leaves more than two thirds of the ocean floor unmeasured in any detailed way.The gap is striking because the oceans cover about 71% of the planet’s surface.

Amid this dramatic sequence of cosmic events, the fate of Earth remains uncertain.

Will it be pulled into the expanding red sun and disappear forever? Or, though long since rendered uninhabitable, will it continue orbiting the white dwarf remnant of the Sun until the universe reaches its eventual heat death?

A BBC expert has explained there are new rules being enforced now which come into action when you get to the till for any online purchase. Appearing on BBC Morning Live, Radio 4 Money Box expert Dan Whitworth spoke about the annoying design of websites which add on large amounts to ‘offers’ when you finally get to pay.

He said in fact hidden fees are illegal – and now the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is clamping down. Earlier this month, it was announced that StubHub has been fined £889,200 by the UK’s competition watchdog for not showing people additional fees on tickets until they got to checkout.

The live event ticket marketplace will also have to refund more than 50,000 customers with an average payout of £10.33. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) was investigating the platform as part of a drive to clamp down on illegal and unfair online pricing practices.

It found that StubHub was using an illegal practice known as drip pricing, which can cause fans to be caught out by extra charges and means they may not have had a chance to accurately compare prices between sellers.

Ford has announced it has rehired nearly 300 engineers after initially letting them go after replacing them with AI.

The decision by Ford to rehire the engineers comes after its AI system was unable to perform well while conducting quality checks.

BBC had more details to report on Ford’s latest move:

Ford says it has hired back some human engineers after AI failed to match their skills and experience.

In a bid to reap the benefits of the tech, which developers claim can cut costs and boost productivity, the US carmaker adopted it across some parts of its operations including for quality checks.

But, according to Bloomberg, its executives said the firm has rehired more than 300 “veteran” quality inspectors in recent years to make up for the pitfalls of automated systems.

“Artificial intelligence is a fantastic tool, but it’s only as good as the information you use to train it,” Charles Poon, vice president of vehicle hardware engineering, told reporters.

“Over prior years, we didn’t pay as much attention as we should have to the experience of our most knowledgeable engineers that have been with us through many product cycles,” he said.

The US automaker is among many to have seized on the buzz around AI, particularly amid Wall Street fervour about the tech’s potential to increase margins.
