The Trump administration released a “comprehensive” plan on Thursday that U.S. election officials can use to safeguard the integrity of the voting process during the upcoming midterms, The Federalist has learned.

“Election security is national security,” Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin said in a statement. “This plan, which will be implemented in full, is crucial to the security, freeness, and fairness of choosing the leaders of our country. Making America safe again isn’t just done at the border, in our streets, and on the coast — it’s also done in protecting the integrity of American elections.”

Obtained by The Federalist, the 2026 Election Infrastructure Security Plan includes numerous tools and services that election officials can use to protect election infrastructure from physical and cyber threats in the midterms. The extensive report was produced by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), which falls under DHS.

The 13-page document begins by providing a comprehensive overview of existing election infrastructure (voting and processing facilities, voting hardware, etc.) and the core technological components (voter registration systems, tabulation systems, etc.) that define a typical election process. It also includes an analysis of potential cyber and physical threats to this infrastructure that officials may encounter during the 2026 contest, such as attempted cyber hacks of state voter registration databases and bomb threats directed at election offices.

The report provides guidance on how best to confront these prospective issues. For instance, to mitigate potential cyber vulnerabilities, the plan advises election officials to consider using paper ballots “that can be easily reviewed to ensure transparency, auditability, and resilience against software failures or manipulation,” and to “[c]onduct post-election manual audits of paper ballots to verify that voting systems function properly and to identify errors before certifying the final results.”

The city of Los Angeles is now reporting an outbreak of the disease Typhus. It is connected to fleas on rats which are flourishing in the city’s numerous homeless encampments.

Flea-borne typhus rising in LA County with latest case reported in Wilshire Center

Typhus, a flea-borne bacterial disease, is on the rise in Los Angeles County, with the latest localized case reported in the Wilshire Center neighborhood, public health officials said Tuesday.

The disease is spread to humans by infected fleas that commonly live on rats, opossums, stray cats and other animals. Common symptoms include headaches, chills, muscle aches and rash.

The Wilshire Center case is the second localized typhus outbreak this year, according to the LA County Department of Public Health.

There were at least seven symptomatic cases linked to the outbreak, health officials said. Six of the seven patients had to be hospitalized at one point. All have recovered, the department said.

So far this year, 109 flea-borne typhus cases have been reported in Los Angeles County.

FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL — The Daily Signal has obtained the death threats made against an outspoken House Freedom Caucus member and his kids that have landed the perpetrator with an almost 10-year sentence in federal prison.

The man behind the threats, 26-year-old Edwin Guerrero, was also hit with a $15,000 fine, United States Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe announced.

“This pro-Hamas individual said he was going to kill me, my children, and make me watch as he killed them. I’m incredibly grateful that now he’s experiencing his own 9/11,” Fine told the Daily Signal in an exclusive interview. “The judge sentenced him to 9 years and 11 months in prison, one month shy of the maximum.”

Fine, who expressed his gratitude for the justice system for taking this matter seriously, thanked the judge and Kehoe for wanting to “send a message” to those who wish to inflict harm on someone for their race or ethnicity, as well as elected officials and children.

“Threats of intimidation or harm against public officials or anyone for their political or religious beliefs will not be tolerated,” Kehoe said in a statement shared with the Daily Signal. “We will take such acts seriously and prosecute these offenders to the fullest extent of the law.”

It’s the headline I’ve waited since I was probably seven years old to read: “US military spending $500M on ‘war-ready’ laser weapons — and zapping drones in Iran, along US border.”

That’s 50 years, folks, and totally worth the wait.

According to the New York Post — your go-to newspaper for words like “zapping” in the headline — “Iranian citizens have witnessed some dazzling laser shows recently,” because “US military has been deploying lasers in the Strait of Hormuz to knock out regime hardware.”

The Department of War said this week that lasers disable “drones and incoming cruise missiles at a much lower cost than using more expensive kinetic weapons like missiles.”

That’s no joke, either.

The Pentagon is mum on the details, but my understanding is that most of the laser weapons currently in use merely “dazzle” incoming threats, sending them off course. So there aren’t any cool vaporizations.

The Israelis led the way on some of this antimissile stuff, despite our head start with President Ronald Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative (now the Missile Defense Agency and soon as Golden Dome) in the early ’80s.

And Another Thing: No sharks were harmed in the production of this column. That we’re at liberty to tell you about, anyway.

Israel’s Iron Dome anti-missile defense system can hit incoming threats at over 40 miles away, but each launcher holds a max of 20 missiles — and each missile costs up to $60 grand. But then there’s Iron Beam, which uses fricken lasers. While Iron Beam is good only against enemy missiles close in (4-7 miles, roughly), each shot costs just five bucks or so. And there’s no limit on how many shots it can take, just so long as the power stays on.

The bond market is flashing red. The yield on the 30-year Treasury note reached 5.44% on Wednesday, its highest level since 2004, before slipping slightly on Thursday morning. The 10-year Treasury, which influences mortgage rates, briefly neared 5.15% on Thursday morning, a level it last reached in 2001.

Yields had already risen amid concerns about inflation and growing U.S. debt. They jumped further on Wednesday after stronger-than-expected economic data led investors to price in additional interest-rate hikes as the Federal Reserve battles inflation. The arch is currently awaiting final approval from the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC), a federal review panel dominated by Trump appointees. Republican Congressional candidate Joe Arminio was booted from a debate in Delaware on Thursday night for an incredibly based reason.

He kept referring to “transgender” Rep. Tim McBride (who now goes by Sarah) as a man.

Libs of TikTok explained:

Throughout the debate, Arminio called McBride a “gentleman” and used (shocker!) male pronouns.

This ultimately led to Arminio being removed from the stage.

NBC Philadelphia detailed what went down:

On Thursday night, during a candidates forum presented by the Jewish Federation of Delaware, Republican Joseph Arminio was removed from the event after he repeatedly misgendered Democratic Delaware Congresswoman Sarah McBride.

“I’m sorry to have to say, the representative from Delaware has contributed, through the net of his actions…” Arminio began during remarks on Thursday, before boos began to erupt from the gathered crowd.

After being warned of his remarks, later, Arminio did it again, leading to another outburst from the crowd.

During the evening, amid turmoil following the remarks, McBride tried to intervene, saying she didn’t want Arminio to not have a chance to speak.

“I don’t want this gentleman to not have the ability…,” started the Congresswoman.

However, Republican candidate Michael Katz, who is running for Senate in Delaware, interrupted her.

“No, get him out of here,” said Katz.

Following Arminio’s ouster, Katz called for him to withdraw from the upcoming elections.
