Parishioners in a southern Louisiana Catholic church accosted and removed a suspicious-looking teenager armed with a gun as about 60 children readied themselves for their first Holy Communion service on Saturday, according to reports.

The Abbeville Police Department (APD) received the report at 10:35 a.m. from the St Mary Magdalen Church in Abbeville, Chief of Police Mike Hardy said in a Saturday press release. “The person was confronted by parishioners and escorted outside. Upon arrival, Officers arrested the suspect and placed him in custody.”

“The suspect, a 16 year old…is being charged with Terrorizing and 2 counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Juvenile,” Hardy added, according to the press release. The charges followed a police interrogation of the suspect in the presence of his parent and a psychological evaluation of the suspect at the Abbeville General Hospital Behavioral Unit, the press release noted.

CNN’s latest coverage of the presidential election has become the news equivalent of a five-alarm fire.

Hours after longtime host Fareed Zakaria begged President Joe Biden on his Sunday show to “turn things around,” analyst Harry Enten broke down the latest poll numbers from NYT/Sienna showing the Democratic incumbent badly training former President Donald Trump in key swing states that are expected to decide the election. Among them: Trump leads Biden by 9% in Georgia, ground zero to the disputed 2020 presidential results and two stunning U.S. Senate wins by Democrats that year. Arizona, another close loss for Trump four years ago, now favors him by 6% among likely voters.

The credibility of Alvin Bragg’s star witness Michael Cohen is in shreds ahead of his testimony in the Manhattan district attorney’s “hush money” trial against President Donald Trump.

Pundits and legal gurus across the political spectrum have openly questioned Cohen’s credibility as a witness.

Many have pointed to the wisdom of Cohen’s brazen social media presence, which includes anti-Trump video rants.

Cohen, once a loyal employee of Trump but now a sworn enemy, has come under fire for speaking out about the case on TikTok.

Trump was in New Jersey Saturday doing his MAGA grievance routine at a rally when he slurred his words so badly it went viral on social media.

Then he whined how he came from New York being forced to endure a Biden show trial.

Then his mouth decided to take a break from his mouth.

“And as you know, I’ve come here from New York, where I’m being forced to endure a Biden show trial, all done by Biden” Trump whined. “Carried eyt by ret svfeyt ol ben dun.”

WTF? That’s my best transcript of what he said.

Trump’s brain fog lifted.”Carried out by radical democrat District Attorney…”

If Donald Trump is trying to woo New Jersey, he has a strange strategy.

During a rally at the boardwalk in Wildwood, New Jersey, on Saturday, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee boasted about his crowd being bigger than a Bruce Springsteen concert, shows that regularly sell out stadiums that can fill tens of thousands.

He also claimed Springsteen, a very-public ally of President Joe Biden, “actually” voted for Trump, and that he was a shoo-in to win New Jersey in November, despite the fact the state has been a Democratic stronghold since the Clinton era.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) admitted on Fox News that the real job of House Republicans is to defend Donald Trump.

Greene said on Fox’s Sunday Morning Futures when asked why Speaker Johnson won’t defund Jack Smith:

Mike Johnson is owned by the Democrats and that I, that proved me to be right again. When I called the motion to vacate, it wasn’t Republicans that saved Mike Johnson. It was Democrats that saved Mike Johnson. And when you have Nancy Pelosi, who was Speaker of the House when they impeached President Trump twice. And you have Jerry Nadler, who was chairman of the Judiciary Committee that led the impeachment against President Trump voting to save Mike Johnson that tells the American people everything that they need to know. Mike Johnson is owned by the Democrats and refuses to protect President Trump even though he runs down to Mar-a Lago every chance he gets and, and hugs him as tightly as he can.

The GOP unveiled a bill last week to bar noncitizens from voting in federal elections — prohibiting something that’s already illegal to address a problem lawmakers can’t prove exists.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) was candid last week in telling reporters that Republicans are motivated by intuition in seeking another law that would limit voting to U.S. citizens.

“We all know, intuitively, that a lot of illegals are voting in federal elections. But it’s not been something that is easily provable. We don’t have that number. This legislation will allow us to do exactly that — it will prevent that from happening. And if someone tries to do it, it will now be unlawful within the states,” Johnson said in a Wednesday press conference on the Capitol steps.

Federal law since 1996 has banned noncitizens from voting in federal elections, and many states have passed laws that do the same for local elections.

The rise in misleading videos compounds what researchers see as a worsening state of health care

Washington:

US wellness influencers are increasingly targeting birth control pills, pushing their followers to abandon the contraceptives with false claims about infertility and low libido that researchers say leave them vulnerable to unintended pregnancies.

The explosion of misinformation on platforms such as TikTok and Instagram comes as reproductive rights take center stage in the looming presidential election, in a country where abortion is banned or restricted in nearly half the states.

Many influencers — who are not licensed medical specialists — are part of what appears to be a cottage industry of self-proclaimed health gurus monetizing misinformation as they hawk “healing” oils and fertility-tracking services.

You may have felt a sense of déjà vu when Elise Stefanik, the House’s fourth-ranking Republican, recently declared: “There can be no negotiations with self-proclaimed Hamas terrorists and their sympathizers.” Her words echoed George W. Bush’s dictum during the Second Intifada that “no nation can negotiate with terrorists.” Except the “terrorists” to which Stefanik referred are 18-year-old college students protesting the murder of aid workers and the starvation of children in Gaza.

This rhetorical drift demonstrates how desperately Republicans have turned gotcha melodrama into a campaign strategy. First, they forced Columbia University’s president to testify before a performative hearing. Next, in a form of political entrapment, that testimony helped spark student protests, which GOP politicos have since blamed, ever so predictably, on President Biden. Now, they’re passing dangerous, virtue-signaling legislation—like a so-called antisemitism awareness bill that would, in effect, enable the government to rescind federal funding from universities that permit student criticism of Israel—all so they can squeeze out a few histrionic attack ads.

This right-wing fearmongering about peaceful protests at home has, of course, served as a distraction from the actual atrocities happening abroad. And it’s also happened to overshadow several major domestic achievements that the Biden administration has rolled out in recent weeks.

Trump threw a hissy fit on his social network over Paul Ryan (who is a Fox board member) saying he wouldn’t vote for Trump. Via Vanity Fair:

“Rupert Murdoch should fire pathetic RINO Paul Ryan from the Board of Fox,” Trump scream-wrote on Truth Social. “Ryan is a loser, always has been, and always will be. He was the WEAKEST & MOST INCOMPETENT Speaker of the House in its History. Fox will sink to the absolute bottom of the pack if Paul Ryan has anything to do with it!”

Trump’s commentary about Ryan came two days after the former GOP leader spoke about the ex-president at the Milken Institute Global Conference, saying: “Character is too important to me. And it’s a job that requires the kind of character that he just doesn’t have.” Ryan added that, “having said that, I really disagree with [Joe Biden] on policy. I wrote in a Republican the last time, I’m gonna write in a Republican this time.” (Note: This is not the way to prevent Trump from becoming president.)

CNN host Dana Bash pushed back on JD Vance’s claims that Trump isn’t anti-Semitic, but a huge supporter of Israel when she reminded him of the infamous Nick Fuentes dinner at Mar-A-Lago.

Vance was going on and on about Trump’s support for Israel, but it is only in proportion to any Jewish person that supports his candidacy.

The Ohio Senator’s response to Bash’s remarks was to do the same thing that all MAGAts do when something happens that makes Trump look bad. He stuck his head in the sand and made-believe Bash never uttered the words.

In an open letter to President Minouche Shafik, 13 Trump-appointed federal judges have announced that they will not hire graduates of Columbia University because the campus has become “ground zero for the explosion of student disruptions, antisemitism, and hatred for diverse viewpoints.”

The boycott, including undergraduates and law students, is irrational, self-defeating and unethical — with no redeeming features. How bad is it? Let me count the ways.

Irrational. Although the judges’ letter doesn’t specifically mention the Columbia encampment protesting Israel’s war on Hamas, that was, obviously, the context for their complaint that “Disruptors have threatened violence, committed assaults and destroyed property.”

At the start of 2024, there were 28 state legislatures entirely under Republican control and 20 under Democratic control. Of these, many have majorities where one party has overwhelming control, like West Virginia where there are 88 Republicans and only 10 Democrats, or Massachusetts with 134 Democrats to 25 Republicans.

When voters elect such lopsided majorities, they give one party the power to enact their own platform. That’s especially true in states where the governor is of the same party as the legislative majority. In these situations, more than any other, parties express themselves to the detriment of constituents’ lives.

With many state legislatures wrapping up their 2023-2024 sessions, here are two examples of what voters get for their partisan investment. One state got guns and a culture war; the other got education, transportation, and housing.

Multiple candidates believed to be finalists for Trump’s presidential ticket — including Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), and Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) — have refused to say they will accept the results of the 2024 election. Others, including Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.), have said they will outright reject the results if they believe there is fraud.

On Wednesday, the National Electoral Council (CNE) decided to study a report recommending charges against Gustavo Petro for alleged irregular financing of his election campaign.

CAIRO/RAFAH: Israeli tanks and warplanes bombarded areas of Rafah on Thursday, Palestinian residents said, after US President Joe Biden vowed to withhold weapons from Israel if its forces launch a major invasion of the southern Gaza city.
As ceasefire talks continued in Cairo, Palestinian militant groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad said their fighters fired anti-tank rockets and mortars at Israeli tanks massed on the eastern outskirts of the city.
Residents and medics in Rafah, the biggest urban area in Gaza not yet overrun by Israeli ground forces, said an Israeli attack by a mosque killed at least three people and wounded others in the eastern Brazil neighbourhood.
Video footage from the scene showed the minaret lying in the rubble, two bodies wrapped in blankets and a wounded man being carried away.

Ground-based radar systems, especially the emerging ngRADAR, are crucial in defending Earth against asteroid impacts and advancing our understanding of the Solar System through high-resolution imaging and robust, scalable technologies.

How can humans protect Earth from “devastating asteroid and comet impacts?” According to the National Academies and their 2023-2032 Planetary Science and Astrobiology Decadal Survey, ground based astronomical radar systems will have a “unique role” to play in planetary defense.

There is currently only one system in the world concentrating on these efforts, NASA’s Goldstone Solar System Radar, part of the Deep Space Network (DSN). However, a new instrument concept from the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) called the next generation RADAR (ngRADAR) system will use the National Science Foundation’s Green Bank Telescope (GBT) and other current and future facilities to expand on these capabilities.

Ex-CNN anchor Chris Cuomo disclosed he is taking the pharmaceutical drug Ivermectin to treat his “long Covid” diagnosis, despite disparaging others who promoted the drug in 2020, stating they “need to be shamed.”

Cuomo, who now works for NewsNation, issued the disclosure during an appearance on Patrick Bet-David’s podcast “PBD.”

While the anchor stated that he stands by his earlier remarks on alternative Covid regimens that differed from the vaccine, he asserted that the US government’s guidance on Ivermectin “was wrong” and that he offered his initial analysis based on alleged facts provided by the government at that time.

“My doctors say I have ‘Long Covid,” he said, later adding that “I’m doing all the protocols”

“I do not fault myself for telling people at the time what the government was giving us as best practices…I am going to tell you something else that is going to get you a lot of hits. I am taking a regular dose, whatever, of Ivermectin,” said Cuomo.

He did it again. If there is one person from whom any pro-Hamas supporter should run regarding guest spots on any show, it’s Mosab Yousef. He’s the son of Hassan Yousef, the co-founder of Hamas. Mosab defected to Israel in 1997 and worked for Shin Bet, Israel’s domestic intelligence agency, for ten years. He’s a former militant with exceptional insight into the radical mind of the propaganda Hamas disseminates daily.

So, when he hears the chants of ‘intifada,’ ‘free Palestine,’ and other pro-Hamas talking points, he lays waste to them with ease. On Piers Morgan’s show, Yousef took a blowtorch to Abby Martin’s pro-Hamas nonsense, shutting her down completely, even claiming that she doesn’t have the credibility to be a journalist if she’s going to peddle terrorist talking points.

Yousef laid it all out: he fought against Hamas, he saved lives, and he’s not going to take claims that Israel is committing genocide, a Hamas talking point, without redirecting some fire. After calling her a low-grade journalist and dismissing the now-debunked claims of genocide, Yousef went a step further that would indeed trigger the pro-terrorist college kids right now: there’s no such thing as Palestine.
