U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday he had agreed with President Xi Jinping to trim tariffs on China in exchange for Beijing cracking down on the illicit fentanyl trade, resuming U.S. soybean purchases and keeping rare earths exports flowing.
Trump’s face-to-face talks with Xi in the South Korean city of Busan, their first since 2019, marked the finale of the U.S. president’s whirlwind Asia trip on which he also touted trade breakthroughs with South Korea, Japan and Southeast Asian nations.
“I thought it was an amazing meeting,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One shortly after he departed Busan, ranking the talks a “12 out of 10.”
Trump said tariffs imposed on Chinese imports would be cut to 47 per cent from 57 per cent by halving the rate of tariffs related to trade in fentanyl precursor drugs to 10 per cent from 20 per cent.
Xi will work “very hard to stop the flow” of fentanyl, a deadly synthetic opioid that is the leading cause of American overdose deaths, Trump said. The tariff was reduced “because I believe they are really taking strong action,” he added.

World stock markets from Wall Street to Tokyo had hit record highs leading up to the meeting on hopes of a breakthrough in a trade war between the world’s two largest economies that has upended supply chains and rocked global business confidence.
The cordial meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, lasted nearly two hours.
Trump repeatedly talked up the prospect of reaching agreement with Xi since U.S. negotiators on Sunday said they had agreed a framework with China that will avoid 100 per cent U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods and achieve a deferral of China’s export curbs on rare earths, a sector it dominates.
But with both countries increasingly willing to play hardball over areas of economic and geopolitical competition, many questions remain about how long any trade detente may last.
As they sat down to begin talks at a South Korean air base on Thursday morning, Xi told Trump via a translator it was normal for the superpowers to have frictions now and then.
Beijing seeks easing of U.S. export controls
A few days ago, trade negotiators for both countries reached a “fundamental consensus on addressing each other’s primary concerns,” Xi said. “I am willing to continue working with President Trump to lay a solid foundation for China-U.S. relations,” he added.
As well as trimming the fentanyl tariffs, Beijing had sought an easing of export controls on sensitive U.S. technology, and a rollback of new U.S. port fees on Chinese vessels aimed at combating China’s global dominance in shipbuilding, ocean freight and logistics.
Trump made no immediate comment on U.S. concessions but said China would purchase “tremendous amounts” of U.S. soybeans and other farm products “starting immediately.”
Ahead of the summit, China bought its first cargoes of U.S. soybeans in several months, Reuters reported exclusively on Wednesday.
Previous trade deals, which brought down retaliatory tariffs on the U.S. side and restarted the flow of rare earth magnets from China, are due to expire on November 10.
But Beijing dramatically expanded its controls on rare earths earlier this month, minerals used in everything from cars to fighter jets on which they have a global stranglehold.
“They’re not going to impose the rare earth controls,” Trump told reporters.
Trump signed various pacts with Japan and Southeast Asian nations on diversifying supplies of rare earths during his trip, though blunting China’s dominance in that area may take years.
The leaders did not discuss chipmaker Nvidia’s state-of-art Blackwell artificial intelligence chip, Trump said, walking back the previous day’s remarks about potentially helping the company to export a scaled-down version of its current flagship GPU processor, a key component in the AI race.
Five GOP Senators have helped pass a resolution by the Senate that would end Trump’s power to declare tariffs against Brazil. The House will need to affirm the resolution, which it cannot do until January. The resolution is expected to ultimately lead to blocking Trump from using tariffs completely.
The five votes came from Susan Collins of Main, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Rand Paul of Kentucky, Thom Tillis of North Carolina, and finally Mitch McConnell. The most disconcerting vote is Rand Paul, who, like Thomas Massie, has failed to realize we are in the middle of a civil war. Paul chose economic autistic “principles” lead him to empower a party hellbent on destroying the republic. Tariffs are NOT being used for economic reasons, they are being used geopolitically.

The U.S. House Oversight Committee issued a report that claims the evidence they have collected nullifies the legal authority of the Biden autopen on key pardons. The report claimed, “Barring evidence of executive actions taken during the Biden presidency showing that President Biden indeed took a particular executive action, the Committee deems those actions taken through use of the autopen as void.”
The committee also asked the Department of Justice to “determine whether legal action is necessary to ameliorate consequences of any illegitimate pardons granted, or executive actions implemented, throughout the Biden Autopen Presidency.”
The House Oversight Committee released a nearly 100-page report on Tuesday deeming invalid those executive actions and pardons issued without proper authorization and with machine-generated signatures in former President Joe Biden’s name.
It looks like the President Joe Biden Committee’s efforts to forgive student debt are not dead yet after the Trump administration settled with the American Federation of Teachers. Under the agreement, the Education Department will now begin applying some student loan forgiveness to people based on their yearly salaries.
This agreement does not provide full forgiveness, but some forgiveness along with a cheaper repayment plan. AFT President Randi Weingarten said in a statement “We took on the Trump administration when it refused to follow the law and denied borrowers the relief they were owed. Our agreement means that those borrowers stuck in limbo can either get immediate relief or finally see a light at the end of the tunnel.”
The Trump administration has agreed to resume student loan forgiveness for an estimated 2.5 million borrowers who are enrolled in certain federal repayment plans following a lawsuit from the American Federation of Teachers.
Under the agreement reached Friday between the teachers union and the administration, the Education Department will process loan forgiveness for those eligible in certain repayment plans that offer lower monthly payments based on a borrower’s earnings. The government had stopped providing forgiveness under those plans based on its interpretation of a different court decision.
The agreement will also protect borrowers from being hit with high tax bills on debt due to be forgiven this year.
Three bills racing through Canada’s parliament could give the government the power to search and seize their citizens at random, ban anyone from gaining access to the internet, and arrest citizens for statements they made in the past that the government deems “hateful.”
Bill C-2 allows the government to randomly search citizens’ mail, computers, and cellphones. Bill C-8 essentially empowers the government to ban anyone, for any reason, from the internet. Bill C-9 removes barriers to citizens being charged for hateful comments and retroactively charges anyone that said hateful things in the past.
One of Canada’s leading constitutional law experts warned that Canada will be a “police state by Christmas” if lawmakers pass three new bills introduced by the federal Liberal government of Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Police have surrounded a church in Minnesota, the site of a horrific mass shooting, where parishioners are still running for cover and rushing to locate loved ones.
Early reports suggest several deaths and critical injuries near the Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis, which also serves as a Catholic K-8 school for the city. Local station KARE11 has reported two deaths and at least four victims in critical condition, according to FL Voice News’ Eric Daugherty.
Gunfire began to unfold around 8:30 a.m. local time. There may be as many as 20 victims, according to the outlet.

A fifth grader at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis said his friend shielded him from gunfire and was struck in the back during Wednesday’s mass shooting as they hid under the pews.
Ten-year-old Weston Halsne told CNN he was sitting near the windows inside the church when shots rang out. He said at first he was unsure of what the noise was, but quickly dove under the pews and covered his head.
“My friend, Victor, like saved me though. ‘Cause he laid on top of me. But he got hit,” Halsne said. “My friend got hit in the back.” He added that Victor was taken to the hospital.

Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and longtime Democratic Party operative Symone Sanders, Steele said that he agrees with Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey’s stance on the “trans community.” After a transgender-identifying gunman killed two children and wounded several others, the far-left mayor has repeatedly stated that the city must stand by its “trans community” and protect them from “abuse” and “harassment.”
“As an elected official, you are on the ground with your folks and you appreciate this journey. I agree with the mayor,” Steele said.
“The thoughts and prayers, I’m so beyond, so beyond that nonsense, the lie of that,” he added with a look of pure disgust on his face. “Because what we have are people who continue to stand in the way of actually doing something to stop the violence against their own kids. What wasn’t known was that the shooter was an anti-God, anti-Jewish, anti-Trump transgender former student with serious mental health issues who left a number of messages to that effect on the guns he used. This would become an optics problem for the liberal media as the day unfolded.

Manuel Oliver, whose own son was killed in a school shooting in Parkland, Fla., went on CNN to say “thoughts and prayers this time are out of the picture. I mean, these kids were actually praying … the God they were all praying to, and still they were shot.”
The implied argument is, if prayer didn’t protect these young Christians from being killed, it must be useless or at least insufficient. There’s a transactional undercurrent to these protestations: that these children placed their faith in God and He failed to hold up His end of the bargain.

Before gunning down several children at the school, Westman posted a series of disturbing social media videos.
Some of them showed his guns and magazines, on which he scrawled messages — including “Kill Donald Trump.”
However, ABC News’ coverage of that message is highly questionable, to say the least.
In fact, in an apparent attempt to paint Westman as a Trump supporter, ABC News refused to say the exact message.
Instead, correspondent Aaron Katersky vaguely referenced that “President Trump’s name” was written on the gun…
