As the government shut down continued on Wednesday,  with essential government employees working without pay for the 16th straight work day, some Democrat lawmakers were not bashful about explaining their strategy.

“Shutdowns are terrible and of course there will be, you know, families that will suffer,” acknowledged Rep. Katherine Clark (D-Mass.), the House Minority Whip, during an interview, Wednesday.  “We take that responsibility very seriously but it is one of the few leverage times we have.”

President Trump’s “rapid response” team responded on X: “These people are SICK!”

Senator Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.) has also made clear that causing pain and suffering is a large part of the Democrats’ shutdown strategy.

“They [Republicans] have had months to negotiate,” Sanders said in a recent interview. “You reopen the government and we lose our leverage,” he added. “There has to be an agreement right now—That’s what this whole shutdown is about.”

President Donald Trump’s administration is preparing to cut thousands of employees from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as the longest government shutdown in history continues with no end in sight.

The move is in accordance with Trump’s promise to cut federal workers if a government shutdown ensued, Breitbart reported.

The federal government has been shut down since October 1 as the Democrats continue to block Republican deals that would have kept the government open through the end of the year.

Would it have been nice if conservatives did something about it at any point in the twelve years since this video? Sure. But that’s not the world we live in, and you have to fight your battles with the Republican Party you have and not necessarily the Republican Party you need.

Where we are now is the Democrat Party, after using the pandemic to blow up healthcare in America worse than they did with ObamaCare, is holding the government hostage unless Republicans vote to renew the “temporary” taxpayer-funded ObamaCare subsidies. To guilt the GOP into doing this, Democrats are rolling out sob stories. Of boomers. Who retired early. And want taxpayers to pay for their health insurance. While those taxpayers can barely afford their own health care. Because Democrats and ObamaCare have caused costs to skyrocket.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday delivered a blistering assessment of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), declaring that the longtime Democrat leader is “mentally gone.”

Trump argues that Schumer has been “beat up by young radical lunatics” who now control his party.

Speaking during an interview, Trump was asked whether the Democratic Party now belongs more to far-left New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani than to establishment figures like Schumer or House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).

“Probably is,” Trump replied.

As of 10:00 a.m., Wednesday morning, Sen. Merkley was still speaking on the Senate floor.

Several Democratic Senators praised the speech, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, and Senators Andy Kim of New Jersey, Tina Smith of Minnesota, and Chris Van Hollenof Maryland.

White House Spokeswoman Deputy Press Secretary Abigail Jackson told Fox News Digital, “Democrats will do anything except vote to open the government. A useless overnight floor speech that no one watched will do nothing to help the millions of Americans who are missing paychecks, losing out on important benefits, or being otherwise harmed by the Democrat’s decision to shut down the government over free health care for illegal aliens.”

As the government shutdown enters its fourth week, National Guard units across the country are canceling drill weekends, suspending routine training, and operating without pay for many personnel, according to state National Guard officials across the country. 

In several states, only units preparing for mobilization or conducting mission-critical activities are continuing training, Guard officials told the Daily Caller News Foundation. Other drills have been postponed altogether, leaving thousands of National Guard members temporarily sidelined and unpaid while force readiness deteriorates.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune placed the Shutdown Fairness Act on the calendar, and it should come up for a vote as the shutdown enters its fourth week. The measure would provide backpay and ongoing wages to military servicemembers and essential federal workers who have not been furloughed. Seems like something Democrats should jump on because they claim to support our troops and federal workers. But a reporter asked him whether he would encourage his Democratic colleagues to support the legislation, Jeffries dismissed the bill as inadequate.

“It’s my understanding that that is not a comprehensive bill that actually is designed to reopen the government, while at the same time, addressing the issues that need to be confronted on behalf of the American people, which include lowering the high cost of living and decisively addressing the Republican healthcare crisis,” Jeffries said. The minority leader’s response signals that Democrats remain dug in on their demands for a broader package that includes extensions of Affordable Care Act tax credits, which are set to expire at the end of the year.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise put Sen. Jon Ossoff on blast at a press conference Tuesday, accusing him and fellow Senate Democrats of refusing to reopen the government as a campaign fundraising tool and out of fear of their base of support.

“It truly is fear, fear of their own party’s base that has driven the Democrats, especially in the Senate, to shut down the government,” Scalise, R-La., told reporters. “It’s a calculated decision, and the continued votes, including yesterday, to keep the government shut down, has been a direct result of the fear Democrats continue to have of their own party’s base.”

“The Trump EPA is committed to protecting the environment and ensuring America has the cleanest air, land, and water in the world while growing our economy, but Democrats are content to allow our funding to run out,” a spokesperson said. “They are preventing us from securing funding needed to continue these important programs and impeding our ability to deliver clean air, land, and water for Americans.”

But they’re also addicted to engaging in sad, little stunts that at best are embarrassing and at worst are, by their own definition, insurrection-y.
