Iryna Zarutska Murder

Blurb:

Prosecutors say Brown was captured on surveillance video stabbing Iryna Zarutska during an unprovoked attack on the Lynx Blue Line on August 22.

A man accused of killing a 23-year-old Ukrainian woman on a Charlotte light rail train has been indicted on federal charges that could make him eligible for the death penalty, ABC reports.

A federal grand jury in North Carolina indicted 34-year-old Decarlos Brown Jr. on Wednesday, charging him with violence against a railroad carrier and mass transportation system resulting in death — a crime that carries the possibility of capital punishment.

The killing of a Ukrainian refugee in North Carolina has exposed a fault line between President Trump and his MAGA base seeking justice and the state’s outgoing Republican senator.

U.S. Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) is appealing to Trump not to pursue a federal takeover of Charlotte after a national outcry over the killing of 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska on a late-night train. A mentally ill man with a long history of convictions and arrests has been charged with her homicide.

The deadly assault fits a pattern of urban violence that the Trump administration has cited in assuming control of Washington, D.C., for 30 days, sending in the National Guard, FBI agents, and other federal authorities to restore law and order on streets that Trump deemed lawless. Tillis was apparently fearful that Trump would begin to call for federal intervention in North Carolina.

Tillis told Fox News that there were “a lot of cities that we should be going to before Charlotte.”

“And I, for one, don’t think that we should be the nation’s police force, because, you know what happens? We’re going to mask the failure of Democrat leaders that are making their cities less safe,” Tillis said. “But we also have to be realistic and see that there are some cities and red states that are also in the top 20 list.”

“All I’m saying is we’ve got an issue, and I’m down there working before it became a national thing, work that we need to do down there to fix basically the free ride of the subway there,” he continued. “But it doesn’t rise to a level of national intervention. I think that’d be an overreach that I’m against, generally.”

President Trump on Tuesday called for stricter law enforcement measures in the wake of a slew of horrific and senseless black on white murders.

The gut-wrenching murder of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska in Charlotte,  North Carolina, last month, in particular, has captured the attention of the president, who condemned the attack as a preventable tragedy resulting from weak Democrat criminal justice policies.

Zarutska, 23, was brutally stabbed on the neck by Decarlos Brown Jr., a homicidal maniac with an extensive criminal history, while riding on a Charlotte light rail train on August 22, 2025.

The president said it’s time “to stop this madness,” adding that he stands with victims and law-abiding citizens, while Democrats side with criminals, gang members, and thugs.

“For far too long, Americans have been forced to put up with Democrat-run cities that set loose savage, bloodthirsty criminals to prey on innocent people—really very, very innocent people,” Trump said in a White House video, Tuesday.  “In every place they control, radical left judges, politicians, and activists have adopted a policy of catch and release for thugs and killers,” Trump continued.

“In Charlotte North Carolina, we saw the results of these policies when a 23-year-old woman who came here from Ukraine met her bloody end on a public train,” Trump lamented. “She was slaughtered by a deranged monster who was roaming free after 14 prior arrests.”

On Monday afternoon’s CNN News Central, chief law enforcement and intelligence analyst John Miller and chief media analyst Brian Stelter offered two ridiculous reactions to last month’s brutal murder in Charlotte, North Carolina of a Ukrainian refugee allegedly at the hands of a thug with 14 prior arrests.

For the latter, it was a lack of government-funded mental health care while the latter bemoaned those outraged have been dabbling in racism.

Fill-in co-host Danny Freeman huffed at the top in a tease: “Fueling a political firestorm. How a video of a deadly stabbing in Charlotte has turned into a flashpoint as the administration pushes its crime crackdown.”

Notice how it’s always painted as a negative and political when CNN’s enemies blow the whistle on something being a problem.

After a set-up from co-host Brianna Keilar and sound of President Trump offering his condolences to the family of Iryna Kartuska, Miller went first and described the video then chalked it up to “someone who has a mental health history” and “clearly fell between the cracks in terms of the kind of treatment he was getting and this terrible, terrible crime.”

“Until our elected leaders take crime serious, we will keep burying our citizens at an alarming rate.”

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) issued a blistering rebuke of city leadership this week, accusing elected officials of ignoring warnings about repeat offenders following the brutal murder of 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska on a Charlotte light rail train.

The statement starts with the FOP quoting Mayor Vi Lyles, who said, “We need a bipartisan solution to address repeat offenders who do not face consequences for their actions.” The FOP fired back, posting, “What a concept [eyes rolling emoji]. Maybe if the mayor followed our Facebook page for maybe the past 5 years or so, she’d see we’ve been complaining about this and calling for action. It’s been met with [crickets emoji].”
