It is sad that this kind of legislation is even needed, but it is. Too many schools cave to the radical BDS mob.

Bipartisan bill would cut funding to universities that boycott Israel

Republican Rep. Virginia Foxx and Democrat Rep. Josh Gottheimer introduced a bill Tuesday to withhold federal funding from universities that divest from companies with ties to Israel.

The “Protect Economic Freedom Act” would mandate that universities submit yearly certifications to the Department of Education proving they are not involved in any “commercial boycotts dictated by those in the boycott-sanction-divest (BDS) movement,” according to a Committee on Education and the WorkForce news release.

The bill would also require the U.S. Department of Education to “make publicly available a list of all institutions that fail to certify.”

“Enough is enough. Appeasing the antisemitic mobs on college campuses threatens the safety of Jewish students and faculty, and it undermines the relationship between the U.S. and one of our strongest allies,” Foxx (pictured) stated in the news release.

Gottheimer condemned “the antisemitic BDS movement,” stating that its goal “is to annihilate the democratic State of Israel, America’s critical ally in the global fight against terror.”

Israel’s ambassador to D.C. told Israeli Army Radio that a ceasefire was being negotiated with Hezbollah and there were “points to finalize.” He added, “we are close to a deal… it can happen within days.”

The Israeli ambassador to Washington says that a ceasefire deal to end fighting between Israel and the Lebanon-based Hezbollah could be reached “within days.”

Ambassador Mike Herzog told Israeli Army Radio on Monday that there remained “points to finalize” and that any deal required agreement from the government. But he said “we are close to a deal” and that “it can happen within days.”

Among the issues that remain is an Israeli demand to reserve the right to act should Hezbollah violate its obligations under the emerging deal. The deal seeks to push Hezbollah and Israeli troops out of southern Lebanon.

Israel accuses Hezbollah of not adhering to a U.N. resolution that ended the 2006 war between the sides that made similar provisions, and Israel has concerns that Hezbollah could stage a Hamas-style cross-border attack from southern Lebanon if it maintains a heavy presence there. Lebanon says Israel also violated the 2006 resolution. Lebanon complains about military jets and naval ships entering Lebanese territory even when there is no active conflict.

It is not clear whether Lebanon would agree to the demand.

The optimism surrounding a deal comes after a top U.S. envoy held talks between the sides last week in a bid to clinch a deal.

Hezbollah began attacking Israel on Oct. 8, 2023, a day after Hamas’ raid on southern Israel, setting off more than a year of fighting. That escalated into all-out war in September with massive Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon and later an Israeli ground incursion into the country’s south.

US President Joe Biden has called an International Criminal Court war crimes arrest warrant for the Israeli prime minister “outrageous”.

The ICC also issued an arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu’s now sacked defence minister Yoav Gallant, and a Hamas commander, Mohammed Deif, who Israel says was killed in July.

Judges said there were “reasonable grounds” to believe the three men bore “criminal responsibility” for crimes during the war between Israel and Hamas.

Europe and the US were split in their response to the warrant, with several European countries saying they respect ICC decisions. The British government indicated that Netanyahu faces arrest if he travels to the UK.

The UN deputy special envoy to Syria, Najat Rochdi, told the Security Council on Thursday that the bombardment was “likely the deadliest Israeli strike in Syria to date”.

Since civil war erupted in 2011, Israel has carried out hundreds of strikes in Syria, mainly targeting the army and Iran-backed groups.

The Israeli military has intensified its strikes on targets in Syria since almost a year of hostilities with Iran-backed Hezbollah in neighbouring Lebanon escalated into full-scale war in late September.

Israel rarely comments on individual strikes in Syria but has repeatedly said it will not allow Iran to expand its presence in the country.

The United States vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution Wednesday that called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

The U.S. was the only country that voted against the resolution, and it did so because the wording of it did not make the ceasefire contingent upon the release of the roughly 100 Israeli hostages whom Hamas kidnapped over a year ago. Seven Americans are believed to be held by Hamas.

The resolution did call for the release of hostages held in Gaza, but the U.S. opposed the demand for an “unconditional ceasefire that failed to release the hostages,” Robert Wood, the deputy U.S. envoy to the U.N., said during the session in New York. “These two urgent goals are inextricably linked. This resolution abandoned that necessity.”

Pope Francis, the head of the Catholic Church, has come out in support of an investigation into the fabricated allegations that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. The Pope said in a released published post ““According to some experts, what is happening in Gaza has the characteristics of a genocide. We should investigate carefully to determine whether it fits into the technical definition formulated by jurists and international bodies.”

Pope Francis has called for an investigation to determine if Israel’s attacks in Gaza constitute genocide, according to excerpts released Sunday from an upcoming new book ahead of the pontiff’s jubilee year.

It’s the first time that Francis has openly urged for an investigation of genocide allegations over Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip. In September, he said Israel’s attacks in Gaza and Lebanon have been “immoral” and disproportionate, and that its military has gone beyond the rules of war.

The book, by Hernán Reyes Alcaide and based on interviews with the Pope, is entitled “Hope never disappoints. Pilgrims towards a better world.” It will be released on Tuesday ahead of the pope’s 2025 jubilee. Francis’ yearlong jubilee is expected to bring more than 30 million pilgrims to Rome to celebrate the Holy Year.

“According to some experts, what is happening in Gaza has the characteristics of a genocide,” the pope said in excerpts published Sunday by the Italian daily La Stampa.

“We should investigate carefully to determine whether it fits into the technical definition formulated by jurists and international bodies,” he added.

Last year, Francis met separately with relatives of Israeli hostages in Gaza and Palestinians living through the war and set off a firestorm by using words that Vatican diplomats usually avoid: “terrorism” and, according to the Palestinians, “genocide.”

Even before President Trump won the 2024 election, Israel was signaling it was not in the mood to entertain calls for a ceasefire in Lebanon. Now, Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz, who replaced former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant after Prime Minister Netanyahu fired him for the second time, is doubling down.

He is claiming Hezbollah has been defeated, but more work needs to be done in Lebanon to secure the victory, meaning no ceasefire proposal will be considered until the work is done. Katz said of the decision not to pursue a ceasefire that Israel had learned its lessons and “Now it is our job to continue to put pressure on order to bring about the fruits of that victory.”

On Saturday, October 25, Israel finally struck Iran after delaying the attack due to the Pentagon leak. The strikes appear to have targeted their ballistic missile capacity and air defenses, with some suggesting Iran’s ballistic missile program will take years to rebuild. Meanwhile, the alleged gutting of Iran’s air defenses senses the regime a stark warning. Next time, we won’t be so restrained, we won’t have to be.

Israel carried out what it described as “precise and targeted” airstrikes on Iran on Saturday, in retaliation for the barrage of strikes launched by Tehran against Israel earlier this month.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it targeted military sites in several regions, with subsequent reports suggesting an Iranian missile production site had been hit. One civilian and four soldiers were killed in the attacks, the Iranian military said.

It marks the latest in a series of attacks between the two regional foes that for months have raised fears of an all-out war.

Israel has reportedly delayed plans to strike back at Iran after U.S. intelligence on the country’s military preparations and capabilities were leaked to the Iranians.

The intelligence leak has ‘forced’ Israel to put aside plans for a military response to Tehran’s recent missile attack, The Times of London reported Thursday. “Israel has delayed its retaliatory strike against Iran because of a leak last week of potentially sensitive military information from the US,” the British newspaper said.

Last week, highly classified U.S. documents on a possible Israeli counter-strike against Iran appeared on Tehran-affiliated social media channels. Documents showed U.S. satellite imagery and intelligence assessment on an impending Israeli military retaliation to the October 1 Iranian missile strike.

The Times of London reports:

The leak revealed Israel’s well-advanced plans to respond to a salvo of nearly 200 Iranian ballistic missiles fired against it earlier this month, which was a retaliation by Tehran for Israel’s attacks on its Middle Eastern proxy groups.

The top-secret document was published on a pro-Iranian Telegram channel last Friday and appeared to be a US assessment of Israel’s likely response, based on satellite imagery and other intelligence.

Israel has been holding military drills for a major ballistic missile attack on Iran, according to American satellite intelligence documents that have been leaked to pro-Iranian social media accounts.

The exercises involved at least 16 airborne missiles, 40 state-of-the-art “Rocks” missiles and refuelling tankers, indicating targets across the country.

In an earlier post, we referenced reports that Israeli troops surrounded Kamal Adwan hospital – the last functioning hospital in Gaza’s north – last night.

Gaza’s health ministry said hundreds of patients and staff have been detained in north Gaza’s last functioning hospital.

“Israeli forces have stormed and are present inside Kamal Adwan Hospital” in the city of Jabalia, the ministry said in a statement.

“They are detaining hundreds of patients, medical staff and some displaced individuals from neighbouring areas who sought refuge in the hospital from continuous bombardment,” it added.

The director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said his staff have lost contact with personnel at the facility since reports of the Israeli raid surfaced this morning.
