Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) compared President Donald Trump’s MAGA movement to the Confederacy.
Pressley made the remarks Monday at Roxbury Community College in Boston while campaigning for Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) in his primary race against Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA).
“It is bigger than Trump,” Pressley said. “Because whenever we do the work of ousting the occupant of the Oval Office, the Confederacy is still alive and well. That’s all MAGA is.”
“White supremacy is still alive and well,” she continued. “Anti-blackness will still be alive and well.”
Markey is seeking another term in the Senate but faces a Democrat primary challenge from Moulton. Pressley endorsed Markey in March after previously considering a Senate campaign of her own.
In announcing her endorsement, Pressley pointed to their work together on immigration, criminal justice, and other progressive priorities.
“I am proud to endorse his re-election so we can continue advancing the justice-driven solutions our communities need to not only survive, but thrive,” Pressley said.
Seattle Police scraps hiring bonuses despite extreme staffing shortage | The Post Millennial– thepostmillennial.com

Katie Wilson previously wrote before she was elected mayor, “There’s a strong argument for simply disbanding police departments and starting over.”
The Seattle Police Department will eliminate its officer hiring incentives beginning Sept. 1, citing an uncertain budget outlook even as the department remains hundreds of deployable officers short of its staffing goal, hiring is running behind 2025 levels, and officer departures are on pace for their worst year since 2023.
The decision comes after Seattle spent years and millions of dollars attempting to rebuild a police force decimated during the city’s defund era. It also comes under Mayor Katie Wilson, who before taking office advocated cutting SPD’s budget in half, argued there was a case for disbanding police departments and once said activists wanted to move toward a future “entirely without SPD.”
SPD confirmed Wednesday that it will stop offering incentives to both entry-level recruits and experienced officers transferring from other agencies. Applicants already moving through the hiring process, along with those who apply before the end of August, will remain eligible for the bonuses.
“A decision has been made to stop the hiring incentives until a time when the budget forecast for the Seattle Police Department is clear,” SPD told KOMO News. “We have a responsibility to the people of Seattle to provide the best police service while also being fiscally responsible. We will continue to hire some of the highest quality candidates in the country and are dedicated to helping keep Seattle a safe and welcoming city.”

On Wednesday’s broadcast of MS NOW’s “The Briefing,” Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) said Secretary of War Pete Hegseth’s attitude that the U.S. military is all about killing people is “not healthy.”
Kelly said, “I think the secretary of defense has done the members of the military a big disservice by the way he’s been conducting himself in his job, getting on a stage, talking about killing people and lethality. And you know, that attitude from the top, it’s not healthy for members of the military to hear this. I mean, just the stuff he was saying today, so you could see why officers who have attended service academies—imagine if you went to West Point, and every day you’re walking by that plaque where it says when the law and orders are in conflict, you follow the law, and you think about that, you think about some of the things that the military is being asked to do. And you have a secretary of defense that’s talking about setting records, 10,000 targets struck in this period of time. And now we set a new record, 12,000. Now 14,000, by the way, on the heels of what seemed to be a horrific mistake, where a Tomahawk missile goes into a school and kills over 100 Iranian schoolgirls. But then, not to dismiss that and continue with this, with this attitude of we’re just about killing people.”
He added, “The U.S. military’s better than that. I mean, we’re supposed to be the good guys here who have a moral compass and have values, and could conduct ourselves with a certain amount of constraint and professionalism. And when I watch the secretary of defense, almost every single time he goes in front of a camera, I see the opposite of that.”
Canada is beating Trump at his own tariff game– www.dailykos.com

EXCERPT:
For all his self-created lore of being a consummate dealmaker, President Donald Trump actually sucks at deals, mostly using legal threats and actions to bully his way to his preferred outcomes.
And those outcomes aren’t even particularly good ones. There is that famous calculation that Trump would’ve made far more money had he simply put his inherited wealth into an index fund. And we’ve seen just how much he sucks at negotiating with his failed Iran and Gaza deals.
In office, his version of lawyerly threats when dealing with foreign countries is tariffs. The Supreme Court may have severely limited his ability to wield them indiscriminately as a way to bully other nations, but that doesn’t mean he’s stopped trying. His latest target is Canada, after yet another failed round of negotiations.
Canada has already retaliated, and its tariffs may have far more political bite than Trump’s.
Trump has already imposed 50% tariffs on Canadian goods. But his biggest new threat—a 50% tariff on Canadian vehicles, auto parts, and steel—isn’t supposed to hit until Jan. 1, 2027. And given his long history of backtracking on tariff decisions, there is little reason for Canada to assume those tariffs will ever be enacted as advertised. Heck, there’s a decent chance the courts get involved before they see the light of day.
But there’s an obvious political benefit to waiting until Jan. 1: the November midterm elections.
We know that Trump has finally figured out that tariffs increase prices, given his decision to import foreign beef while removing tariffs in order to try to give voters an affordability win before the elections. The last thing his party needs is further price increases on top of current inflation trends.
New York’s progressive Governor, Kathy Hochul, signed a new state law prohibiting police from aiding ICE agents in any way, shape, or form. During the signing she incited violence against ICE agents, characterizing their actions as “atrocities on our streets.”
This is a dog whistle for “ICE agents are Nazis.” The comments appear to be an effort to encourage more violence against ICE agents by progressive citizens of the progressive state of New York.

EXCERPT:
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has once again proved just how much the left hates you — the American people.
Hochul announced that a new state law that bars police from cooperating with ICE agents has gone into effect. She did this because, according to the left, no human is illegal. Well, unless, of course, you are a law enforcement officer working with federal agents to uphold national security. That, in fact, would be illegal, according to Hochul.
Per CBS:
It bans local government agencies from maintaining agreements with ICE for civil enforcement. It also prohibits ICE agents from using local detention centers for civil enforcement, including mass raids.
“Local police will assist ICE only if a real crime has been committed,” Hochul said. “But on civil immigration matters, ICE is on their own.”
The problem with this claim is that breaking federal immigration laws is a crime. Can someone please clear that up for the Governor?
She said the law will help protect immigrants from aggressive enforcement while they pursue asylum claims.
What a bunch of nonsense. This is nothing more than an effort to vilify federal agents, while turning a blind eye to criminal aliens who have disregarded this country’s laws from the very start.
Back in July, state officials sent letters to 12 local law enforcement agencies that have agreements with ICE. The letters stated that they must unwind the agreements by Aug. 25.

“Let this ruling be a reminder that democracy is never, ever, guaranteed. We have to fight for it, we have to fight to keep it, and we have to protect the rights we do have within it. Those in power know full well that they are unpopular and will lose in a free and fair election, and so they are trying to do everything they possibly can to make it difficult for you to vote.
Trump’s order has nothing to do with election integrity. It has everything to do with maintaining power at all costs.”

EXCERPT:
It was a day unlike any other in the 46-year history of CNN, a day when CNN’s lying, self-serving bias, misinformation, and disinformation ceased for nearly 30 minutes.
This miracle began sometime after noon E.T. on Monday, August 24, 2026, a miracle witnessed by the one-third of one percent of Americans who sat spellbound, staring in awe, wonder, and confusion at a CNN that, for a brief and shining moment, stopped doing this…
But, somehow, even those of us who were not watching — or, roughly 99.7 percent of Americans — still felt it. Yes, across this great nation of ours that CNN hates so much, we all stopped. And in that moment, we sniffed the air. Then we looked at one another. Then a slow smile crossed our lips and lit our eyes. Something had changed, and this something that had changed had changed for the better.
The very atmosphere all around us felt, well, lighter, and even cleaner. Up in the sky there was something one witness aptly described as a “glow of decency.” And then it hit us. All at once we realized that an evil that had plagued us for so long, a smug and insufferable evil, a not-terribly-bright evil, had, for whatever reason, ceased.
For nearly 30 glorious minutes, America began to feel like America again. Truth reigned again. Facts mattered again. Context was once again a thing. Decency felt within our grasp. You could almost hear angels singing, a sound as lovely as the laughter of children. And then, just when it began to feel real, Warner Bros. Discovery fixed its technical glitch, and CNN came back on the air.

Oklahoma just witnessed another shocking example of what happens when the left takes over the criminal justice system and treats thugs like victims and victims like castoffs. Between 2022 and 2026, Ghanaian migrant Jeff Kofi Asare accumulated a hefty criminal record in Oklahoma with 7 convictions and a litany of charges including larceny, trespass, and resisting an officer. Asare saw little jail time for most of these offenses and spent a total of 75 days incarcerated for two breaking-and-entering convictions despite repeated criminal activity escalating in severity, which culminated in an alleged depraved sexual assault spree earlier this month.
On Aug. 1, he was arrested for sexual battery and indecent exposure after allegedly groping two women near a bus stop and was subsequently released pre-trial. On Aug. 6, he was again arrested for sexual battery for allegedly groping a woman near a park and again released pre-trial. On Aug. 12, he was arrested for attempted rape after firefighters heard screams and rescued a woman, allegedly from his clutches.
Like Iryna Zarutska before them, these four alleged victims, who were simply trying to board a bus or take a walk in a park, made the reasonable but increasingly inaccurate assumption that they were not in the presence of a violent criminal who had been arrested and released numerous times.
Jeff Kofi Asare was arrested THREE times in just the past two weeks for allegedly r*ping women in Oklahoma. Nearly 2 dozen arrests since 2022.

ICE officers working in Los Angeles are being followed home, harassed on social media and confronted in person while carrying out immigration enforcement, the agency’s local field office director said this week.
Those officers receive little assistance from local police.
LAPD policy, rooted in Special Order 40 and the city’s sanctuary ordinance, bars officers from initiating action solely to determine immigration status or assisting in civil immigration enforcement, according to a statement from Chief Jim McDonnell.
Los Angeles ICE Field Office Director Thomas Giles told Fox News Digital that the sanctuary rules force his agents into the community instead of allowing secure transfers at local jails. Fox News Digital accompanied Giles and a team of officers on an enforcement operation in the Los Angeles area early last Thursday morning.
“The sanctuary policies definitely impact our operations in terms of it’d be a lot easier for us to have that transfer of custody in a secure environment,” Giles said. “So, what it does for us is it sends our officers out into the community, putting our officers at risk and other community members at risk.”

You’d never know it by the title, “Dancing in the Dark,” but the Washington Spectator’s recent investigation is about the various steps (mostly illegal) President Donald Trump is taking, including the use of enforcement tools and violence, to prepare to reverse any overall Democratic victory in the November congressional races. The authors, Mark Medish and Joel McCleary, believe Trump needs such a coup to save himself from impeachment, congressional investigations and subpoenas seeking more proof of crimes throughout his lawless, corrupt, dictatorial regime.
Currently, Trump’s polls are so low that he is endangering enough Republican seats in the House and Senate to give the feeble, corporate money-indentured Democratic Party a chance to win control of Congress. This is precisely what Trump fears, even though he has control of the Executive Branch and the immunity given him by six Injustices of the Supreme Court. Take note, he knows that impeachment and removal from office in the Senate are final, not reviewable in the federal courts.
In 23 single-spaced pages, Medish and McCleary walk readers through the events, directives, ballot seizures and draft emergency orders Trump could use to assert federal control over a midterm election and use a domestic paramilitary force of unprecedented size and budget. Trump and his minions have already expanded their dictatorial control of our democratic institutions. (See the V-Dem Institute’s Democracy Report 2026.)
They then describe the “Devil’s Accordion File” meaning “the elements of a ramified, radical strategy to hold on to power at almost any cost as we approach the test of the 2026 elections.” Although they describe Trump as a brilliant mastermind concentrating extraordinary power in his hands, they remind us that he is also in “full command of his office, directing the Justice Department, the FBI, ICE (the largest new federal police force in American history), the IRS, the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Federal Communications Commission, the intelligence community and the armed forces. [Under total acolyte Pete Hegseth.] He is using each agency in a coordinated attack on his political adversaries in ways that would have been dismissed as fantasy only a few years ago.”

On Tuesday, Canadian officials announced funding to back businesses, workers, and industries, as they implement dollar-for-dollar counter-tariffs on the US in response to the Trump administration’s newly imposed 50 percent tariffs on roughly $20 billion worth of Canadian imports.
Senior members of Canada’s government announced a support package worth $7.5 billion Canadian dollars, or about $5.4 billion US, including $3 million in non-repayable loans for every small business and a further $2 million in interest-free loans—even for businesses only indirectly affected by tariffs.
Small and medium-sized businesses directly affected will be able to apply for a further $5 million through Canada’s business development bank, and the Canadian government has set aside $2 billion for medium-sized and large firms, more than half a billion dollars for retraining workers whose industries are affected by tariffs, and a one-year extension on temporary employment insurance benefits Canada already issued in response to the start of Trump’s trade war with Canada last year.

On August 24, controversial Democrat Senate candidate Abdul el-Sayed boldly accepted an invitation to the Fox News show Jesse Watters Primetime. It oozed confidence, but whether it was smart or strategic to play the Artful Dodger is a very different question.
In his newsletter, CNN media analyst Brian Stelter gushed over el-Sayed generating “lots of buzz and clippable content” and how he “showed a keen understanding of Fox’s outrage machine.” This is always amusing, as if Stelter doesn’t think CNN can be characterized as operating an “outrage machine” against Trump.
Then Stelter mischaracterized the central mishap of the interview. El-Sayed was credited for “refusing to take the bait when Watters asked whether it’s okay ‘for a parent to slash his kid’s ding-a-ling off’ or whether trans athletes should compete in women’s sports. Each time, he redirected toward gas and grocery prices, the war in Iran, and health care.”
That’s not what happened. When Watters pressed him on genital amputations for children, he insisted this decision is between a doctor and a patient, and the government should not get involved – which is a bizarre position when you’re pushing for a “Medicare for All” scheme where the government controls the health care system.

Stankova added that she works with students who are “five to eight years behind in mathematics.”
“Office hours that should be spent discussing integrals instead become lessons on fractions and basic algebra you would expect students to learn in middle school,” she wrote.
She noted that other professors are having similar experiences, which is why thousands of faculty at all 10 UC campuses signed open letters asking for the return of SAT and ACT requirements in admissions.
UC ditched the standardized testing requirement in 2020 to promote “equity.” Then, a court ruling on disability access forced the system to go fully test-blind through 2025, Stankova wrote.
California Admits It Doesn’t Track Noncitizens On Voter Rolls– thefederalist.com

For years, Americans have been told that concerns about noncitizens voting are a myth, a right-wing talking point unworthy of serious attention. California’s own secretary of state and attorney general have proven otherwise, however, not by admitting the state has no idea whether, or how often, it’s even happening, but by indicating the state isn’t bothering to track it.
A few weeks ago, the ACLJ submitted two California Public Records Act (CPRA) requests — one to the California secretary of state and one to Attorney General Rob Bonta’s office — seeking records on how the state maintains the integrity of its voter rolls. The Attorney General’s Office took an extension, ultimately responding on Aug. 10.
The Secretary of State’s Office responded first, but refused to provide any records responsive to our request. According to its answer, the statewide voter registration system simply “does not contain” a specific cancellation reason for non-citizenship. In other words, the state cannot tell us how many noncitizens have ever been removed from its voter rolls — because it doesn’t keep that information at all.
Below is a summary of our records requests to the secretary of state, and how California responded to each: First, we asked for the number of voter registrations that were canceled because the registrant didn’t meet citizenship requirements. California said its system “does not contain a voter status reason for cancellation due to non-citizenship.”

The “mainstream” media called it nothing. You couldn’t find that story on ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, or NPR.
What about print? The New York Times noted this bill when it passed the state House in July, and The Washington Post ran an AP dispatch when it passed the state Senate. But I found nothing on the bill-signing.
The AP headline was painfully vague: “Massachusetts is close to giving doctors the final word on whether to perform late abortions.” AP reporter Geoff Mulvihill didn’t emphasize this was an “abortion until birth” bill.
This was AP’s muddled lede:
“Massachusetts is on the way to giving doctors the final say on whether an abortion should be allowed late in pregnancy, a move expected to affect few cases but that supporters say is needed because hospitals are now turning away women they should be serving.”

Fortune was found hanging from a tree behind an abandoned house earlier this month. Her death is undoubtedly tragic, and the circumstances are being investigated. But CNN appeared to be more interested in trying to insinuate her death is emblematic of racism in America by invoking the imagery of a racist lynching and by breezing past additional reported details surrounding Fortune’s death.
Jimenez stressed that little is known about the circumstances and that police have not said whether her death is considered suspicious, nor have they identified a suspect. On Wednesday, the conservative Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals overturned a ruling blocking key measures of Texas’ sweeping voter suppression law, SB 1.
A lower court previously ruled that the law, which effectively made it harder for people to vote with assistance, violated disability civil rights laws. It also created more barriers to voting by mail.
“It has long been established that mail-in ballots are prone to fraud,” Judge Andrew Oldham wrote, according to Democracy Docket. “That is why voting by mail jeopardizes election integrity and democracy itself.”
There is no evidence that mail-in ballots are “prone to fraud.” An analysis from the Brookings Institution found an “average total mail voting fraud percentage across the 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2022 general elections of only 0.000043 [percent].” Or, about 4 votes per 10 million votes.
