California Governor Gavin Newsom has set a date for a special election to fill disgraced Rep. Eric Swalwell’s seat after he resigned from Congress amid allegations of rape and sexual assault. “I, Gavin Newsom, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim and order that a special election shall be held on the 18th day of August 2026, within the 14th Congressional District of the State, to fill the vacancy in the office of the U.S. House of Representatives from said district resulting from the resignation of Representative Eric Swalwell,” Newsom said.
Swalwell officially resigned from Congress on Tuesday after the serious allegations against him were made public. Video showing Swalwell in compromising sexual circumstances was also released by Human Events Daily’s Jack Posobiec and Martin Shkreli showing Swalwell in bed with a woman who was not his wife.
“I am deeply sorry to my family, staff, and constituents for mistakes in judgment I’ve made in my past. I will fight the serious, false allegation made against me. However, I must take responsibility and ownership for the mistakes I did make,” Swalwell said in a statement.
“I am aware of the efforts to bring an immediate expulsion vote against me and other members. Expelling anyone in Congress without due process, within days of an allegation being made, is wrong. But it’s also wrong for my constituents to have me distracted from my duties. Therefore, I plan to resign my seat in Congress,” he added. “I will work with my staff in the coming days to ensure they are able, in my absence, to serve the needs of the good people of the 14th district.”

Eric Swalwell, who until Sunday was running for governor of his state, will now be one of those cautionary tales his party likes to use in claiming that — unlike Republicans — Democrats are too concerned with principles and decency. It’s a pathetic coping front for what really happened with that sick party, which once again is living by the destructive, anti-American standards they’ve tried imposing on everyone else.
A few women in recent days — all anonymous except one — went to some media outlets to accuse Swalwell of sexual misconduct, including rape. The lizardly congressman has denied any criminal wrongdoing while also apologizing for “mistakes in judgment I’ve made in my past.” Nevertheless, he suspended his gubernatorial campaign and now faces some pressure to resign from Congress, as well as a criminal investigation in New York.
Purely based on the so-far reported details of this unseemly saga, there’s no reason to deny Swalwell’s American entitlement to innocence before proven guilty. As is routine in these #MeToo episodes, the accusations are mostly just that — accusations — and the supporting evidence is limited to friends and family of the alleged victims who attest to their validity.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office confirmed on Saturday it is launching an investigation into Californian Rep. Eric Swalwell, over an alleged sexual assault involving a former staffer in 2024, according to a new report.
Swalwell’s former staffer — who has not been identified — told CNN that after a night of drinking with her former boss in April 2024, she was heavily intoxicated and woke up to him having sex with her in his hotel bed.

Shawn Monper, 32, pleaded guilty on Monday to two counts of threatening to assault and murder U.S. officials and federal law enforcement officers with intent to impede or retaliate against them while they were carrying out their duties.
Law enforcement officials arrested Monper on April 9, 2025, after launching an investigation into threats posted on YouTube by a user identified as “Mr Satan.”
The FBI was notified about Monper’s YouTube account on April 8, 2025, and was able to link it to his home in Butler.

Now, however, the congressman faces serious allegations of sexual misconduct that even his fellow Democrats cannot ignore.

A “shocking” number of former female employees and interns are preparing to come forward to accuse Rep. Eric Swalwell (|D-Calif.) of sexual misconduct, according to a Democrat activist.
Cheyenne Hunt, a lawyer, former congressional candidate and executive director of the left-wing nonprofit Gen-Z for Change, revealed on X Sunday, that she has been working with a number of women who are in the process of sharing their accusations with major news outlets. Hunt said she knew of a separate and “much larger group” of women who are also currently in the process of sharing their stories.
Swalwell’s alleged inappropriate sexual behavior is said to be an “open secret” in Washington DC, as is his alleged practice of forcing underlings to sign nondisclosure agreements.
Hunt posted an initial video on Instagram in late March accusing Swalwell of having “a known history of being predatory towards women.” She cited a woman who told her: “You know Eric Swalwell has slept with many of his interns and makes them all sign NDAs so they don’t speak up, right? NEW YORK — A Pakistani man pleaded guilty to a terrorism charge Wednesday, saying it was a “morally reprehensible idea” to support the Islamic State group by plotting to use automatic weapons to kill Jewish people at a Brooklyn center.
Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, 21, said he answered the group’s call for Muslims to kill Jewish people by plotting to attack the Jewish center in October 2024.
He entered the plea in Manhattan federal court over 18 months after he was brought to the United States from Canada, where he was arrested on Sept. 4, 2024, in or near Ormstown, Canada, which is 12 miles from the U.S. border.
In a release, Assistant Attorney General for National Security John A. Eisenberg said Khan planned a mass shooting to coincide with the anniversary of the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas attacks “with the explicit goal of killing as many Jews as possible.”

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a measure into law Monday that gives him along with other Florida leaders the ability to label groups as domestic or foreign terrorist organizations and expel state university students who support them.
The law, criticized by free speech advocates, allows a top official at the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to designate a group as a domestic or foreign terrorist organization, with the governor and three other members of the Florida Cabinet approving or rejecting the designation. Besides the governor, the Cabinet is made up of the state attorney general, the chief financial officer and the agriculture commissioner, all of whom are elected separately.

The 41-year-old Lebanese national who targeted the Temple Israel synagogue in West Bloomfield, Mich., on March 12 “acted under Hezbollah’s direction and control,” according to the Department of Justice.
Ayman Mohamad Ghazali drove his car into Michigan’s largest synagogue and opened fire on March 12. A security guard was injured by Ghazali’s car inside the synagogue, but otherwise, no one was hurt.
“This man acted under Hezbollah’s direction and control,” said Jerome Gorgon, Jr., the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan. “I’ve seen some odd attempts to explain away or even lessen this terrorist attack by claiming that he was an isolated lone wolf, but that is misleading,” said Gorgon.
Former Fox News host and populist podcaster Tucker Carlson criticized President Donald Trump for mocking Islam in an Easter Sunday post in which he threatened Iran’s infrastructure if there was no substantive move toward negotiations from Tehran.
Carlson said that the message was only acceptable “if you seek a religious war,” but that otherwise, “no decent person mocks other people’s religions” and the move would escalate tensions as opposed to defusing them.
Carlson’s Monday remarks came as Trump was continuing to get blowback for his Truth Social post.
