Scholars deride move as censorship, threat to academic discourse

A New Zealand psychology journal recently retracted a paper questioning claims about science being a tool of “white power,” stating that it was “inconsistent” with the publication’s “values,” according to a former journal editor.

Now, the editors of the Journal of the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists are facing criticism from scholars across the globe.

Dr. Kumari Valentine, a psychologist and former editor of the journal, raised concerns about the retraction in an article Saturday on the substack Psychology at the Crossroads.

Melat Kiros, a socialist congressional candidate challenging incumbent Democrat Rep. Diana DeGette in Colorado’s 1st Congressional District, believes there is a need for a “Trans Bill of Rights,” considering it “horrific” to protect children from gender mutilation surgery.

Kiros announced that her campaign page was being updated to include a “Trans Bill of Rights,” during an appearance on the Call Me Limbo podcast.

“Like, we’re actually updating the website right now. I wrote all of our policy page a year ago now, but we’re updating it this week, and some of the things that we’re adding in there is also a Trans Bill of Rights,” she said, calling for greater “force” in pushing the transgender agenda.

“You know, I think we have to be so forceful and clear and aggressive in our protection and our advocacy for the trans community, especially for trans kids,” she continued, asserting that there are ballot measures in Colorado coming up that she considers to be “just horrific” and “absolutely destructive for young trans kids.”

“It’s about God’s [promise] that he makes to us,” Giants starter Landen Roupp said.

Major League Baseball has drawn a line in the sand: rainbow logos are fine, Bible verses are not. Three San Francisco Giants pitchers have reportedly been warned by the MLB after appearing during Friday night’s Pride Night game with Scripture references written on their caps, prompting a fresh round of questions about whether baseball’s diversity mantra extends to Christians who dissent from the league’s liberal social messaging.

Giants starter Landen Roupp appeared with “Genesis 9:12-16” written on his cap, the biblical passage describing God’s covenant symbolized by the rainbow. The inscription partially overlapped the Pride-themed rainbow “SF” logo featured on the special-edition cap. Relievers JT Brubaker and Ryan Walker also displayed Bible verses, while pitcher Sam Hentges opted to wear the club’s standard black cap rather than the Pride Night version.

MLB was not amused. “The writing on the cap violates our rules, and consistent with normal practice, we have warned the players about future violations,” MLB Chief Communications Officer Pat Courtney told The Athletic. Roupp, however, made clear he wasn’t backing away from the message.

“It’s just about God’s covenant and a promise that he makes to us,” Roupp told reporters. “That’s just kind of something I believe in, and I stand firm in that, and I’m thankful we live in a country where we have the freedom to believe what we want … and express what we want.”

A Southern Poverty Law Center executive is accused of being the lover of the head of a Neo-Nazi group in a DOJ indictment filing. The document alleges an executive believed to be Heidi Beirich funneled $1.2 million to her lover, which was part of a larger $4 million payments. The SPLC is accused of paying the group to stage racist events that would then be cited in their fundraising campaigns.

We’re more than halfway through June, and the parade of LGBT “pride” propaganda across professional sports continues at full speed.

Most recently, the MLB came under fire for issuing a warning to multiple players on the San Francisco Giants who wrote Bible verses on their hats.

The same hats had already been very conspicuously altered to include the month’s ubiquitous rainbow imagery, but adding a small nod to the Creator was apparently too much for league execs.

Per the Daily Caller:

Staying true to their faith in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, numerous San Francisco pitchers wrote verses from the Bible on their caps. Starting pitcher Landen Roupp, one of the hurlers, talked following the contest about why he scrawled the verse, stating that it was the representation of “God’s covenant.”

“It’s just about God’s covenant and a promise that he makes to us that, you know, his faithfulness and his mercy,” said Roupp to the media, per OutKick. “That’s just kind of something I believe in, and I stand firm in that, and I’m thankful we live in a country where, you know, we have the freedom to believe what we want … and express what we want.

“There’s no hate at all. It’s just what I stand for, and what I stand in. I believe in God,” added Roupp.

Here’s a sampling of the backlash the MLB received in response:

After Major League Baseball (MLB) warned three San Francisco Giants players for wearing Bible verses on their caps during the team’s LGBTQ+ “Pride Night” game on Friday, comedian Rob Schneider offered to pay the fines of any players who defy the Bible ban.

“I will pay the fines for any @MLB Christian player who wears a Bible verse on their uniform. @MLB is ANTI-CHRISTIAN,” Schneider declared Tuesday in a social media post.

Schneider was reacting to a Sports Illustrated story reporting on the league’s rebuke:

“Three Giants pitchers were issued a warning from Major League Baseball after they appeared in Friday’s game against the Cubs with Bible verses written on their Pride Night caps. The league notified the players that similar behavior would not be tolerated in the future.

“Right-handed pitcher Landen Roupp started Friday’s game on the mound. Etched on his cap throughout the game was ‘Gen 9:12-16’ in white lettering. The writing was a reference to the Bible verse Genesis 9:12-16.”

Two San Francisco relief pitchers, JT Brubaker and Ryan Walker, also wore Bible verses on their caps.

The next day, the Giants issued a statement apologizing to the LGBTQ+ community because the Bible verses angered them:

“We understand that the choices by individual players have caused pain and anger to many in the LGBTQ+ community and we are sorry for that.”

(LifeSiteNews) — Major League Baseball (MLB) has issued a warning to three Christian San Francisco Giants pitchers who inscribed a Genesis chapter 9 citation on their team’s specially issued “Pride Night” ball caps last Friday.

As it turns out, so-called “Pride Night,” which is purported to be promoting tolerance, is actually about intolerance for Christians.

“The writing on the cap violates our rules and consistent with normal practice we have warned the players about future violations,” Pat Courtney, MLB’s chief communications officer told the LGBT sports site, Outsports.

Outsports suggested that MLB didn’t go far enough for fans “who wanted baseball to issue a fine for the uniform infractions.”

DEI is not dead. It survives because the left embedded it deep inside institutions, habits, grant programs, training regimes, and professional language. Even when the label changes, the ideology keeps moving.

One of President Donald Trump’s first actions in his second term was an executive order directing the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division to eliminate illegal diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. The order put immediate pressure on organizations that built their funding models around DEI and what they call “victim-centered” ideology.

Although the league says it was merely responding to a run-of-the-mill rule infraction, its warning to three San Francisco Giants players after a recent game struck many Americans as inherently anti-Christian.

The trio wrote Bible verses onto their caps before the “Pride Night” game during which the team had been instructed to wear rainbow-themed uniforms.

In response to the move, the MLB handed down its reprimand and, in turn, opened itself up to widespread criticism.

As The Hill reported, Vice President J.D. Vance was among the critics:

“To be clear, this routine verbal warning not to wear the hat in future games is not disciplinary and had absolutely nothing to do with the content of the message,” MLB told The New York Times about the incident. “We respect players’ right to free expression. However, writing of any kind, with any message, is prohibited per Major League Baseball’s uniform regulations.”

Vance, in a social media post on Tuesday, responded to a Sports Illustrated report about the warning, saying “Trump won we don’t have to do this anymore.”

MLB is one of several major sports leagues that features annual Pride nights and events, encouraging teams to celebrate diversity during Pride Month in June.

Happy Wednesday, dear Kruiser Morning Briefing friends. The Sine Qua Non Sequitur is investigating rumors of a “Never Ending Meat Wheel” at a Wednesdays-only speakeasy somewhere near the Inner Hebrides.

This isn’t just about California today, but that’s always a good starting place for any overall examination of the extreme leftward drift of the Democratic Party. As we discussed last week, that is the proving ground for the most insane leftist initiatives and schemes that the Dems hope to one day mainstream.

Our jumping off point is a real doozy, even by California lunatic fringe standards. Had I not read it on one of our sister sites, I probably would have triple-checked it. This is from my Townhall colleague Joseph Chalfant:

A new report from the City Journal revealed the “LGBTBE Certification” process that individuals must go through should they wish to receive preferential treatment in the taxpayer-funded contract bidding process in the state of California.

Thanks to our lord and savior Donald J. Trump, these stories are less frequent than they were during the People Who Controlled Joe Biden Administration. We still get the occasional advertisement for homeschooling. Like a Colorado teacher who made girls kiss in the classroom as part of “sketches” and graded them on it. And, yes, the teacher IS on the LGBTQ spectrum. However, did you guess?

Jennifer Honka is a now-former teacher from Denver Public Schools. She taught French Language and Culture at Northeast Early College for eight years. So maybe instead of a lesson in tolerance of Ls, Gs, Bs, Ts, and whatever the Qs are, it was just a misguided lesson in French kissing in between lessons in how to make macarons and how to surrender in war.

The burning cross was discovered June 9 in Grant Park, where Barack Obama delivered his acceptance speech when he was elected the nation’s first Black president in 2008.

A 21-year-old college student told WMAQ-TV that he was the shirtless person in an image distributed by police when they were looking for a suspect. But police did not immediately say Tuesday if he’s the person in custody.

The man said he protesting President Donald Trump and not making a racist statement.

The highest court in Iowa has ruled against the use of race in higher education financial aid programs, joining a growing number of similar court rulings following the Supreme Court’s 2023 decision against the use of race in admissions.

The Iowa case arose from a gift made by Dr. Ezra Totton to the University of Iowa for black students who, like him, wish to pursue a career in chemistry.

Totton had been denied admission to the University of Tennessee in 1939 based on his skin color, and attended the University of Iowa instead. To comply with the Supreme Court’s Students for Fair Admissions ruling, in 2025 the University of Iowa attempted to change the gift’s “black student” qualification to “first generation student.”

Senior officials in President Joe Biden’s Department of Education defied a federal court order in launching investigations of gender identity and sexual orientation discrimination in schools, according to a federal watchdog finding.

The Office of Special Counsel released a report this week that confirmed the disclosure of Education Department whistleblower Timothy Mattson, who said the department’s Office of Civil Rights unlawfully processed complaints about gender identity discrimination after a federal judge halted an executive order from going into effect that was the basis for the investigations.

According to Mattson’s disclosure, the Office for Civil Rights investigated a school that restricted athletic competition to biological sex.

The U.S. Justice Department’s Civil Rights division announced Thursday, June 11, that the University of California, Davis School of Medicine (Davis Med) violates Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by discriminating on the basis of race in its admissions process. The determination follows a six-month investigation prompted by concerns over post-2023 affirmative action practices.

The findings center on Davis Med’s efforts to maintain racial diversity after the Supreme Court’s Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard (SFFA) decision, which banned race-based admissions in higher education. The DOJ concluded that the school intentionally circumvented this ruling by using socioeconomic proxies for race.

The Department of Justice under President Donald Trump just took a pivotal step toward removing government-endorsed discrimination from America’s legal system and undermining the institutional apparatus of critical race theory.

Critical race theory teaches that America is systemically racist and that even racially neutral policies are truly racist if they result in better outcomes for members of one race than for members of another. That’s the exact same logic as the legal theory known as “disparate impact.”

Cornell Law School defines disparate impact as a policy or rule “that seems neutral but has a negative impact on a specific protected class of persons.”
