A would-be mass shooter was stopped by church members before he had a chance to kill any members at the CrossPointe Community Church in Wayne, Michigan. The shooter opened fire but was quickly shot by two parishioners and run over by another, who drove her car into the church lobby to stop him.
The shooter was 31-year-old Brian Anthony Browning. He died on the scene. Fortunately, only one church member was injured. Browning began firing at church members, including children, before he was stopped. There were over 150 children present at the time. Had the church not had an armed guard, the outcome could have been a lot different. It was the shot that initially stopped Browning. Motivation for the shooting was not given. Browing had infrequently attended the church in the past.

The Wayne Police Department responded to reports of an active shooter at the church, located on Glenwood Road between South Wayne and South Newburgh roads, on Sunday morning. The shooting occurred shortly after a church event had ended and while the service was still being live-streamed on YouTube. Video footage from inside the church shows the congregation applauding and beginning to rise from their seats when off-camera shouting begins.
Attendees are seen ducking for cover and running from the room as someone shouts, “Everybody to the back, please, everybody come to the back. Come to the back.” A loud bang follows, triggering additional screams before the video feed cuts out.
