According to the official data, more than 1.2 million Americans have died with COVID-19, either recorded as a cause or a contributing factor during the pandemic and the emergency period that has stretched across years of lockdowns, mandates, school closures, and cultural upheaval.

Anthony Fauci denied the public the truth and transparency our nation deserved about the origins of COVID. And he changed his messaging on masks and social distancing and became the public face of a response that shattered public trust across the country. As many have already said in plain language: “Fauci lied, and people died.”

Just this last week, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., released more than 1,000 pages of Anthony Fauci’s private diary* — handwritten notes stretching from late 2019 through 2022. Days later, Fauci walked into a Senate hearing and, on the advice of his lawyers, refused to answer any question, including what day of the week it was, what color the carpet was, or what color of tie he was wearing. He also refused to answer substantive questions about COVID’s origins, gain-of-function research, or his previous testimonies.

That hearing came after Joe Biden’s sweeping preemptive pardon that covered potential federal offenses tied to Fauci’s government work from 2014 all the way through January 2025. A pardon, Republicans argued, undercut his claim that truthful answers could still incriminate him. Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., argued at the hearing that a witness who has already received such broad protection and a pardon cannot keep hiding behind the Fifth Amendment for past or current conduct, while Rand Paul said the only remaining risk would come if he, in fact, lied while under oath at this hearing.
