Michigan Democrat U.S. Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed compared his progressive political platform to the teachings of Jesus Christ during a podcast interview, arguing that many of his signature policies are rooted in religious principles despite being labeled “radical.”
Appearing on the Progressive Christians Podcast in May, El-Sayed was asked how his Muslim faith influences his campaign and why policies such as Medicare for All, opposition to war, and rejecting corporate money in politics are often portrayed as extreme.
‘Jesus … Was Considered Radical’
Rev. Blair Stowe, one of the podcast’s hosts, suggested that many progressive policies closely resemble “the teachings of Jesus” but are nevertheless branded as radical by critics.
“And yet, those platforms and those policies are being named radical,” Stowe said.
