EXCERPT:
Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates says his past association with convicted child predator Jeffrey Epstein should not overshadow his views on artificial intelligence (AI) and global health, arguing that he has acknowledged his mistakes and should now be judged on his broader record.
The billionaire addressed the reputational damage from his relationship with Epstein during an interview with Axios.
It comes as Gates simultaneously launched a new push warning governments about potentially massive economic and social disruption from artificial intelligence.
The tech mogul argues that the recent Gates Foundation investigation into his ties to Epstein concluded that he is now “clear” of the scandal.
“I made mistakes. I’ve changed,” Gates said.
“I do think the record is clear, and people can just judge me on the record.”
Gates has denied participating in Epstein’s criminal activities and has described his decision to associate with the disgraced financier as a “huge mistake.”
He has maintained that his interactions with Epstein were limited and driven by his belief that the financier could help raise money for philanthropic causes.
Gates has also told Congress that Epstein later attempted to blackmail him over extramarital affairs.
