South Korea’s spy agency is investigating whether North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has a secret older son who could have a role in the country’s future leadership.
The National Intelligence Service (NIS) said on Thursday it was still trying to establish whether Kim has an older son, while maintaining that his daughter is the likely heir.
The comments appear to respond to a recent report claiming South Korean intelligence had determined Kim has no son with wife Ri Sol Ju.
But the NIS said that even if an older son exists, he is not currently considered to be in the line to succeed his father.
