EXCERPT:
Five weeks out from the midterm elections, the Senate map is both clearer and murkier than ever. The original battleground seems largely settled, yet the anti-Republican electoral environment opens up new possibilities for Democrats. (You can read our previous Senate update here.)
Let’s get to it.
1. Georgia (D-incumbent, Likely D)
Go ahead and call it. The GOP appears to be largely pulling out of the race. The only question left is whether Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff has enough coattails to pull Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms across the finish line in the gubernatorial race. That is important because if he wins as easily as it looks like he will in this red-tinged purple state, Ossoff will be a top-tier candidate for president in 2028—but only if there is a Democratic governor to name his replacement in the Senate.
