Brazil: Leftist Incumbent Lula Narrowly Defeats Bolsonaro in Presidential Runoff– legalinsurrection.com

In Brazil, incumbent leftist President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva barely defeated Sen. Flávio Bolsonaro, the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, in the presidential runoff.

This is Lula’s fourth nonconsecutive term.

This is all weird to me. From Fox News:

Bolsonaro narrowly won the first round on Oct. 4, with 47% of the vote, to Lula’s 45%, but fell short of the 50% majority required to win the election outright.

The victory marks an unprecedented fourth presidential term for Lula, and a remarkable comeback victory. The result is even more surprising given that Bolsonaro had led, albeit by tight margins, in recent polling, and Brazil had recently elected a conservative congress aligned with the Bolsonaro agenda.

Earlier I saw The New York Times gush over Brazil’s secure election system.

Then we learned that Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Cristiano Zanin, who spent a decade as Lula’s defense lawyer, ordered polls to stay open two hours after closing due to “transportation delays and bad weather.”
