EXCERPT:
Most of the toss-up state senatorial races are within the margin of error. That means turnout is crucial. This explains why President Donald Trump is campaigning. He aims to get the solidly Republican base to vote, which will offset the angry Democrat vote. But we should look carefully at Michigan and Minnesota’s Democrat senatorial nominees. They are campaigning at the end with the more extreme members of their party.
Abdul El-Sayed has refused to answer any questions related to his family’s support of the Muslim Brotherhood. He has refused to answer who is more dangerous to the USA, Iran or Israel. Regardless of his personal opinion, when in 2012 he co-signed a letter to Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi to oust personnel from the previous administration, he did not want to lose the radical Islamic bloc, which is sizable in his state. His retort that such questions are Islamophobic is just a deflection. But he has not shored up his larger base.
El-Sayed invited Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) to appeal to socialists. He wants Medicare for All, covering medical, vision, dental, and hearing costs without deductibles. He supports abortion rights and gender-affirming care. Further, he supports public financing for elections, ending the Senate filibuster, term limits for Supreme Court Justices, funding nationwide mail-in voting, a wealth tax to fund education and public housing, moving to green energy, government regulation of AI, and opposes military support of Israel. He brought in Ayanna Pressley and former President Obama, hoping to shore up left and black votes which he lost in the primaries. Bernie Sanders has supported El-Sayed, demonstrating his radical views. It appears that he is vulnerable, and the independents will determine the victor — El-Sayed or former congressman Mike Rogers, a less charismatic candidate.
