The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has formally backed a resolution calling for the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Newsweek reports that DNC members approved the measure Saturday during the party’s summer meeting in Austin, Texas, calling on congressional Democrats to pass legislation eliminating ICE and winding down the federal immigration detention system.

The resolution also calls for withholding Department of Homeland Security funding unless the administration ends a series of enforcement practices, including workplace raids, large-scale roundups and arrests at courthouses and ICE check-ins.

It additionally demands the closure of immigration detention facilities, the termination of private detention contracts and the release of most immigration detainees while their cases proceed.

Around 300 proposed Texas data center projects are on hold for several months after Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) ordered an audit of new development, according to state regulators.

Between 250 and 300 projects, most of them data centers, are set to move through the audit queue, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas told the Public Utility Commission. The ERCOT is the state system that regulates the energy grid, which Abbott is aiming to boost through his order earlier this month, mandating certain reforms for data center developers looking to come to Texas.

Under standard procedure, proposed data centers undergo extensive evaluation by the ERCOT before being approved in the Lone Star State. Abbott’s order added some more standards to the process and will audit only “Batch Zero” projects, which are data center proposals that have already secured financing and land to build on, in the ERCOT’s queue.

It would take “several months” to audit the projects before greenlighting them to connect to the state grid, according to the ERCOT. Regulators are aiming to complete their study of the first batch of projects by April 2027, ERCOT Senior Vice President Chad Seely said. Regulators will send information requests to up to 300 large energy consumers to verify their eligibility for the study. They will also collect “community impact information.”

“Just from a holistic standpoint, having all that community impact information on how they’re handling water technology [and] power deliverability gives a better perspective to the state as we see these loads start to come onto the grid over the next several years,” Seely added.

The Senate has just passed the “Common Cents Act” which will formally end the production of the penny and create new cash rounding provisions.

The Trump administration previously ordered the Treasury to stop producing pennies due to them costing three cents to make one.

KVOM reported further details on how transactions will be rounded up:

The Senate passed the Common Cents Act by unanimous consent Friday. A version of the legislation has also passed the House.

The measure would formally end production of pennies for general circulation. The U.S. Mint produced its final circulating pennies last year, although special collectible pennies were issued this year as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Existing pennies would remain legal tender and could continue to be used for purchases.

The legislation would also address cash transactions when pennies are not available. Businesses would be permitted to round the final cash purchase amount to the nearest five cents. For example, a transaction totaling $19.82 could be rounded to $19.80, while a $19.83 purchase could become $19.85.

The rounding provisions would apply to cash transactions and are intended to establish a more consistent system as the supply of pennies declines.

Student visa fraud will be reduced under a new Trump policy limiting how long foreigners can attend college, an expert told The College Fix.

Set to go into effect on Sept. 15, the “duration of status” rule will now set a fixed, four-year limit on student visas or shorter, depending on the normal length of the program. Prior to this change, students could stay here as long as they were enrolled in school.

The program ensures temporary visas remain “just that: temporary, with a fixed end date,” according to Ira Mehlman.

The spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform praised the move in emailed comments to The Fix.

“The new policy makes it clear to everyone up front — the applicant, the university and the government — that the terms of entry are for a specific purpose, for a specific duration, and that when those have been fulfilled the student must depart the country,” he said.

The policy “will also end the practice of endlessly enrolling in classes beyond completion solely for the purpose of extending a student visa.”

McKenna West, a single mother and nurse in Alaska, was chosen to be a surrogate mother for a couple in California, Nausheen Gilkar and Omar Ahmed.

However, after learning that the baby boy will be born with a serious but treatable heart condition, the couple is trying to force West to abort him against her will.

The New York Post provided some additional background on the high-stakes case:

A surrogate mother is fighting tooth and nail to save the life of the baby she’s carrying amid relentless pressure from his biological parents, who pushed to abort him after he was diagnosed with a heart condition, a lawsuit claims.

McKenna West, an Alaskan nurse and single mom of two, signed on to become a surrogate with Worldwide Surrogacy Specialists in September 2025 to make ends meet.

When she underwent an anatomy scan in her 20th week of pregnancy in April 2026, “Baby Gabriel” was diagnosed with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) — a severe but treatable heart condition, per the lawsuit.

Baby Gabriel’s biological parents, referred to in court papers only as A.B. and C.D., demanded West abort the baby, in accordance with the “abortion on demand” clause of their surrogacy agreement, according to court docs.

Doctors in Alaska refused to perform the abortion — a two-day-long, highly intensive and risky late-term procedure, so the biological parents demanded West travel to Seattle, per court documents.

West, already bonded with the unborn child, was grief-stricken at the prospect.

She was appalled at the idea that doctors would inject Baby Gabriel with “a solution that will stop his heart and then he’ll be literally ripped apart and dismembered as he’s taken from [her] uterus,” when his condition is treatable, according to the suit.

“Every life matters. No woman should be forced to end the life of the baby she is carrying — including me… Baby Gabriel should receive a chance at life,” West told The Post in a statement.

The pardon extends to federal offenses only.

When questioned about his activities as COVID czar on July 29 by the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, he invoked his Fifth Amendment rights.

Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey signed an abortion bill into law on Aug. 10 that removed the state’s current 24-week ban and legalized abortions up to the point of birth for any reason with a doctor’s “professional judgment.”

When the law takes effect in 90 days, Massachusetts will join 10 other states and the District of Columbia in allowing abortion up to the point of birth.

A press release on the bill, H.B. 5595, stated that it “comes as reproductive rights continue to face unprecedented attacks across the country following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade.” The release framed enabling women to kill 9-month-old unborn babies as heroically “strengthen[ing] protections for patients and providers, ” as “Trump and state legislatures continue to push abortion bans.”

A federal judge in Massachusetts cleared the Trump administration Friday to terminate Temporary Protected Status for South Sudanese nationals, handing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) another victory in its effort to unwind temporary immigration programs that have allowed foreign nationals to remain in the United States.

U.S. District Judge Patti B. Saris ruled that the plaintiffs could not revive their challenge after the Supreme Court rejected materially similar arguments earlier this year.

“The Supreme Court rejected materially identical challenges … and Plaintiffs have no liberty or property interests left other than those provided by statute or regulation based on their individual circumstances through other statutory provisions,” Saris wrote.

Their “newly proposed claims would be futile,” the judge added.
