The U.S. military has established a protected shipping corridor through the Strait of Hormuz that is moving nearly 10 million barrels of oil a day into global markets despite continued Iranian attacks, according to U.S. officials.

The operation has been underway for several weeks, with 15 to 20 tankers regularly traveling through a southern channel near Oman, two U.S. officials told Axios. Current shipments amount to roughly half the oil that passed through the strait before the war disrupted traffic.

The effort provides a significant boost to global energy supplies after the conflict sent oil prices sharply higher.

“We have been controlling the southern lane of the Strait of Hormuz for two months now,” one U.S. official told Axios. “The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps can be a nuisance, but they don’t control the strait. We do.”

The operation includes escorting loaded tankers out of the Persian Gulf while helping empty vessels enter, collect oil from Gulf countries and return safely through the strait.

A Somali man in Minnesota has been hit with criminal charges in a case involving over $1.5 million in Medicaid fraud. Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison announced on Monday that Salman Ahmed Elmi has been charged with three counts of aiding and abetting theft by swindling and five counts of aiding and abetting theft by false representation.

Ellison’s office said that between 2024 and 2026, Elmi operated Reva Health, which claimed to provide adult rehabilitative mental health services (ARMHS) to Medicaid recipients. However, documentation was falsified to obtain Medicaid reimbursement, with Elmi and other co-conspirators being accused of instructing employees to pay recipients kickbacks in exchange for their permission to use their personal information in support of the claims.

Several co-conspirators of Elmi at Reva Health “ran separate criminal enterprises with connections to Reva and face charges filed by the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office,” Ellison’s office said.

Those charges out of Hennepin County are against four people, with each being charged with 13 counts of promoting prostitution of an individual and receiving profits from prostitution. The defendants are 57-year-old Frank Reeves, who is accused of running the operation with former Anoka County Assistant Attorney Andrea Sampson, who is also a defendant in the case. Also charged is Viktoriya Komonash, 30, and Katherine Thomes, 36, per WCCO.

According to South Korean intelligence, North Korea responded to President Donald Trump’s peace overtures on Thursday by launching about a dozen short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs) into the Sea of Japan just hours after Trump scaled back U.S.-South Korean military exercises and offered to talk with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said it detected the North Korean launch at roughly 5:00 p.m. local time. The missiles originated from somewhere near the North Korean capital of Pyongyang, flew for about 185 miles, and landed in the Sea of Japan, which Koreans refer to as the East Sea.

The launch was confirmed in an emergency alert from the office of Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae. The Japanese Coast Guard said the missiles appear to have come down outside of Japan’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

Calculus students at the University of California Berkeley don’t know how to work with elementary-level fractions, one professor wrote in a recent op-ed.

“I teach mathematics at UC Berkeley. Three days a week, I stand in front of lecture halls with 500 to 1,400 students. By the second week of the semester, I already know who is in trouble,” Zvezdelina Stankova wrote in an article published by The San Francisco Standard.

Stankova added that she works with students who are “five to eight years behind in mathematics.”

A federal judge has temporarily blocked the Department of Homeland Security from accessing a database containing records on approximately 17 million commercial drivers as the Trump administration seeks to identify illegal immigrants holding commercial driver’s licenses.

U.S. District Judge Anthony Trenga issued an administrative stay preventing DHS from accessing records maintained by the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators. Trenga, who was appointed by President George W. Bush, also ordered the department to return records it had already obtained and prohibited officials from reviewing them.

The order follows a lawsuit brought by a coalition of Democratic-led states challenging the federal government’s demand for the data.

A new report has revealed 39 Kroger supermarket stores some of which are identified under a different banner have closed its doors.

The closings won’t end there though.

Dozens more are set to close its doors by the end of 2026.

Fox Business was the first to break the story and provided insight on what led Kroger to make the tough call:

Kroger has closed at least three dozen stores since announcing plans last year to shutter 60 locations that were not “delivering sustainable results” by the end of 2026.

The Cincinnati-based grocery giant did not release a full list of stores or banners slated for closure, but online searches listed 39 locations across nine banners as no longer operating. Local reports also confirmed that many of the locations were part of the broader store overhaul.

As of January 2026, Kroger operated 2,697 supermarkets across 35 states under roughly 20 banners, including Fred Meyer, Fry’s Food and Drug, Harris Teeter, Jay C, King Soopers, Mariano’s, Pick ’n Save, QFC and Ralphs, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

The company said the closures are intended to help it “run more efficiently and ensure the long-term health of our business,” according to FOX 26 Houston, which reported that two Houston-area locations were slated to close in April.

The closures come as Kroger announced plans last month to acquire regional grocery chain Giant Eagle for $1.65 billion, which would add another 197 supermarkets and 11 standalone pharmacies across northern Ohio, western Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland and Indiana.

Thirty academic institutions across the nation must immediately conduct research security audits under a demand coming from the U.S. Department of War, the agency announced Monday.

The notification directs the schools “to initiate immediate and comprehensive reviews of their academic, financial and research collaborations with foreign entities of concern,” according to a department news release.

The academic institutions are not named, but the release states “organizations associated with rebranded Confucius Institutes” are among them.

Confucius Institutes, funded by communist China, were set up on campuses nationwide years ago ostensibly as a cultural exchange, but they were flagged by Republican lawmakers as vectors through which China could spy on America, obtain taxpayer-funded research, and spread communist propaganda.

By 2021, the more than 100 institutes on campuses had reportedly dwindled to 27. By 2023, that number had dropped to five, according to stats from the Government Accountability Office.

The Department of War’s news release states the audit is needed “to protect American taxpayer-funded research investments from unauthorized technology transfer, intellectual property theft and adversarial exploitation.”

Spoiler: Donald Trump has not deported every illegal in America with his own two hands yet. I know. Between that, Iran, and the whole $20 burrito thing, I’m as disappointed as you are. And I know keeping perspective is something that tHe NeOcOnS (huRr DeRp) tell us to do. But when Democrats are saying with their whole chests that their next presidential candidate will pledge to abolish ICE, mayhaps perspective should be somewhat kept.

I’m old enough to remember when the People Who Controlled Joe Biden Administration’s border crisis led to tens of millions of new illegals invading our country. Not to mention all the children they misplaced. Though, to be fair, “crisis” would imply the play didn’t work exactly how the People Who Controlled Joe Biden drew it up.

I’m also old enough to remember when some elements of the Marxist/Horseshoe/Woke Right attempted to tell us Ro Khanna was someone who they could find common ground with. Ro led the charge calling for the Abolish ICE resolution:

“Murders our neighbors in broad daylight”

“Cruel, rogue agency”

“Racist institution”

“Terrorizes Latino families”

Odd, considering that while this meeting was going on, potential future Speaker of the House Temu Obama didn’t have the grapefruits to say the words himself.

The “Abolish ICE” plank is just a proposed resolution. The actual democrat platform won’t be passed until the presidential convention in 2028. There is a chance that democrats, for a change, nominate someone who is open-minded and tolerant toward a single opposing viewpoint. Maybe that viewpoint is admitting ICE enforcing current immigration law is a good thing. Monkeys could also fly out of James Talarico’s butt. You always have to allow that less that 1% chance.

I just wanted to make a point to the “both sides are the same” sect of the right-wing internets. One side has not deported everyone who needs to be deported, but is doing more than anyone has before them, and is doing the best they can with all the forces they have working against them.

The other side is the democrat party, which values illegal immigrants more than they do you.

Disney and ABC filed a First Amendment lawsuit against the Federal Communications Commission on Tuesday over the federal agency’s order requiring the network to file an early license renewal request for all eight of its broadcast television stations.

The commission, led by Chairman Brendan Carr, issued the order years ahead of the normal schedule for license renewals. The commission has been investigating Disney’s alleged use of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, while simultaneously probing ABC’s morning talk show The View over a separate matter.

The plaintiffs claim the Trump administration is waging a “retaliatory campaign” against the Disney-owned company because “it disapproves of what ABC broadcasts” to the public.

“The Commission issued an unprecedented order requiring the Stations to file early applications to renew their licenses—years before any of their licenses would have come up for renewal in the ordinary course and allowing only thirty days to file applications which ordinarily take months to prepare,” the plaintiffs’ attorneys wrote in the civil complaint.

“Until the day before that order issued, the Commission had not called for a renewal application ahead of schedule in more than half a century,” they continued. “Nor had it ever demanded simultaneous early renewal applications from a group of stations commonly owned with a single broadcast network—much less stations with the record of public service and award-winning journalism like these Stations.”

Tasmania legalized assisted suicide in 2022, has now announced that it will conduct a review of their assisted suicide law based on concerns related to the massive increase in assisted suicide deaths.

Several years ago, I had the opportunity to speak in Tasmania where I warned about how the assisted suicide deaths would quickly increase once legalized.

The Tasmania assisted suicide reports indicate that the number of assisted suicide approvals, prescriptions and deaths have increased substantially since legalization.  The Tasmania reports are based on October to October. You will notice that the data indicates that 2 deaths in 2023-24 were reported late.

The Tasmanian reports refer to reported assisted suicide deaths since not all of the participants are accounted for in the data.

The rate of reported deaths by assisted suicide was 2.1% of all deaths in 2024/25 which was up from 1.2% of all deaths in 2023/24.

Meg Whitfield reported for the ABC News Australia on August 15, 2026 that:

An independent review into Tasmania’s VAD legislation is currently underway to assess if it is still working as intended, and what improvements are needed.

It is being led by three experts — lawyer and former governor Kate Warner, end-of-life law expert Ben White, and palliative care specialist Michael Ashby.

A final report will be handed to the government by November 1.

Comments from the Australian Medical Association President, Meg Creely, provide concerns over the direction of the review. Whitfield reported Creely as stating:

President Meg Creely said that, overwhelmingly, medical practitioners involved with VAD found it “a really rewarding part of their medical career”.

However, she said there was an administrative and financial burden on doctors that needed to be addressed.

“What we hear from our members is that legal access and practical access are not necessarily the same thing,” Dr Creely said.

Creely seems to be suggesting that doctors who participate in killing their patients often find the act “rewarding” but they want to be paid more.

Canada has never reviewed their euthanasia law.

When Canada legalized euthanasia in 2016, the original law (Bill C-14) required that the law be reviewed beginning in June 2020. That review never happened.

Instead Canada expanded the euthanasia law in March 2021 when it passed Bill C-7. Bill C-7 allowed people who without a terminally condition to be killed, it removed the 10-day waiting period when a person has a terminal condition, it allowed a doctor to kill an incompetent person, when that person was previously approved for euthanasia, and it allowed euthanasia for mental illness alone, which is currently scheduled to go into effect in March 2027.

After passing Bill C-7, the Canadian government established a euthanasia committee composed of 10 members of parliament and 5 Senators. The AMAD committee did not review the law but rather it examines further expansions of the law.

On July 1, 2026, the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition launched a campaign demanding a complete review of Canada’s euthanasia (MAiD) law.
