NPR’s Weekend Edition September 12 story by “domestic extremism correspondent” Odette Yousef once again only spied extremists on the right side of the ideological divide, ignoring worse activity on the left, and ridiculously implied that conservatives invented “doxxing” — revealing private information about a person online toward hostile ends — after the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Yousef’s story began at Utah Valley University, the place where Charlie Kirk was assassinated on September 10 of last year.

The quiet of the courtyard belies the violence that took place in it a year ago, and the deepened social rupture that followed. The hard-right activist was killed in front of an audience of thousands while he was debating a student with progressive political views. The co-founder and then-leader of Turning Point USA, Kirk was arguably the most influential conservative youth movement leader in a generation – and his death set off an unprecedented frenzy of intimidation, harassment and threats that seemingly reached into every corner of the country.

“Unprecedented frenzy”? Was Yousef sleeping during Woke One, where anyone in liberal-leaning occupations who dissented online from the prevailing views about George Floyd, transgenderism, or vaccination were at risk of harassment or firing? X is full of woke atrocities that the elite media would prefer be flushed down the memory hole.

Now, Yousef seems to lament that liberals can’t express glee over the murder of conservatives without consequence. She conveniently pinpointed the “accelerated erosion of political norms” onto the “last decade” — i.e. Trump’s first election.

“After Charlie [Kirk was assassinated]. … you didn’t need to be [targeted by] one of the big [social media] accounts, obviously, for anyone to find you,” said Shauna Dillavou, CEO of Brightlines, a doxing prevention service. “Your neighbor found you or your friends found you. A comment in a closed group chat that would get screenshotted and passed up the chain. And that was the big shift: the neighbor-on-neighbor, trusted circle, inner sanctum violence.”

The majority of Democrats support the Democratic Socialists of America, a Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday found.

The latest survey shows among Democrat, 59% consider themselves DSA supporters, compared to just 30% do not. Out of total voters polled just 26% consider themselves supportive of the DSA, compared to 66% who do not consider themselves backers of the socialist group.

If a candidate for elected office identifies as a DSA supporter, 17% of respondents say it makes them more likely to back that candidate, the survey states. By comparison, 43% of voters say it makes them less likely to vote for that candidate while 35% of respondents say it makes no difference.

The DSA did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

Several Democratic socialist candidates have notched primary wins in recent months. Darializa Avila Chevalier in New York, Melat Kiros in Colorado and Donovan McKinney in Michigan all defeated incumbent Democratic lawmakers while Chris Rabb in Pennsylvania and Claire Valdez in New York won their open seat races.

DSA supporters generally have high levels of education but tend to fall within lower- to middle-income brackets, the DSA North Star’s most recent survey shows.

“Our candidates are going up against corporate backed opponents, and they’re going to need your help to get over the finish line this November,” the DSA said in a Oct. 3, 2025 X post.

In June, the DSA released a new platform, dubbed “Workers Deserve More,” which in part proposes to “draft a new constitution, and create a democratic socialist republic.” The socialist group’s platform has drawn intense public criticism from congressional Republicans.

Cats rely heavily on scent to learn about one another, often gathering information from urine and other odor marks left behind in their surroundings. These chemical traces can continue communicating long after the animal that produced them has moved on.

That creates a puzzle. Many odor molecules evaporate, break down, or change with time. If a scent is constantly evolving, how can another animal still determine who originally left it?

Researchers from Japan, Germany, and Spain, led by Iwate University, may have found part of the answer in domestic cats. Their experiments point to a group of unusual fatty acids that could serve as a lasting chemical signature in cat urine.

The scientists identified 13 branched-chain fatty acids (BFAs). The particular mixture and proportions of these compounds varied from one cat to another, yet remained relatively consistent within the same animal. Behavioral tests also showed that cats could detect differences between BFA profiles when the researchers controlled for other lipids in the urine.

The findings suggest that BFAs could function as a durable chemical “calling card” that helps preserve information about individual identity. The study will be published in Current Biology.

The Black Death is best known for the catastrophic wave of plague that swept through Europe between 1347 and 1353, killing millions of people. But the disease did not vanish once that initial disaster passed. Plague returned again and again for more than four centuries, repeatedly disrupting cities, economies, and societies across Europe and surrounding regions.

A study led by researchers at the University of Tartu is now offering a much more detailed look at what happened during those centuries. By analyzing DNA from the plague bacterium preserved in archaeological human remains, scientists were able to reconstruct how the disease spread, evolved, and repeatedly reappeared long after the Black Death.

Ancient DNA Reveals Centuries of Plague

The team reconstructed 26 genomes of Yersinia pestis, the bacterium that causes plague, from human remains recovered at 11 archaeological sites in Estonia, Russia, England, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. The samples date from the fourteenth through the eighteenth centuries, covering a large portion of the period known as the Second Plague Pandemic.

The genetic evidence suggests that plague did not simply survive in one place and repeatedly spread outward from a single source. Instead, the disease appears to have resurfaced in different parts of Europe over hundreds of years, potentially creating several new reservoirs where the bacterium could persist.

A federal immigration agent shot and wounded a man on Sunday in Austin, Texas, authorities said.

The shooting occurred shortly before 1 p.m. local time on the city’s north side. Chief of Austin-Travis County EMS Robert Luckritz said at a Sunday news conference he believes the man was shot once in the torso and that he was in serious condition.

A lawyer for the man who was shot identified him as Wilber Rafael Garces Perez, a 28-year-old Venezuelan national. Attorney Kate Lincoln-Goldfinch told CBS News that Garces Perez was working for DoorDash at the time of the shooting, and said he called his wife from his car while “yelling in pain.” DoorDash confirmed he was in the process of a delivery when the shooting happened and said it was investigating.

Lincoln-Goldfinch said Sunday night that Garces Perez had been released from Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas “into what we believe is ICE custody.” She said Garces Perez had been initially held for approximately six hours, during which time officers declined to provide his wife with meaningful information about his status or circumstances.

“We are deeply concerned that his wife and family have not been permitted to see him and have not received a meaningful update regarding his current condition or whereabouts,” she said.

She told CBS News that when they rushed to the hospital, law enforcement “ran us off the property and told us we can’t even stand on the driveway.”

A spate of new surveys from GOP-affiliated pollsters show Democrats well positioned across key Senate races.

In Texas’ Senate contest, two Republican polls show Democratic nominee James Talarico ahead of Republican nominee Ken Paxton. One from InsiderAdvantage shows Talarico up 2 points, while another, from SoCal Strategies, has him leading Paxton by 5 points.

One InsiderAdvantage poll even shows a close race in South Carolina’s Senate race: Democratic nominee Annie Andrews trails Republican Sen. Darline Graham by just 2 points. That is remarkable for a state that President Donald Trump won in 2024 by 18 points, and where no Democratic Senate nominee has lost by less than 9.6 points since the 1990s.

Notably, the only nonpartisan poll released since the start of July, from Abacus Data, showed Graham ahead of Andrews by 13 points.

Trafalgar Group, a GOP pollster infamous for its opaque methodology, finds the Democratic Senate candidates ahead in Michigan (D+2), North Carolina (D+6), and Georgia (D+7). All of those results are roughly in line with those from nonpartisan firms, despite Trafalgar having a track record of bias toward Republican candidates.

President Donald Trump said that he plans to make his proposed 250-foot arch in Washington, DC, a “top grade military complex” that holds large stores of weaponry, citing national security reasons and a “strong request” from the US military.

Trump added in his Sunday post on Truth Social that the planned “Triumphal Arch” near the National Mall would “have the rapid ability to use large numbers of drones, plus Snipers, on both the roof and plaza areas.”

The president first proposed building the arch last October to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary. The much-criticized project, as currently planned, would tower over most other DC landmarks—the tallest being the Washington Monument, at approximately 555 feet—and block the view of Arlington National Cemetery from the Lincoln Memorial.

Three Vietnam War veterans sued the administration to prevent construction of the arch based on the view issue, and also because Trump has not secured the required approval from Congress. Earlier this month, a federal judge ordered the administration to provide 48 hours’ notice before doing any work on the project, but has yet to rule on the merits of the case.

The vote took place late Tuesday, and for a third time, the US House voted to end the war in Iran, attempting to cut President Donald Trump’s ability to continue military action.

The roll call, 220-204, was similar to earlier efforts this summer, with a few more Republicans joining all Democrats voting to bring an end to the conflict. None of the resolutions have made it to the president’s desk, where Trump would almost certainly veto the measure.

Other than a lone juror who has been crucified by his fellow jurors and doxxed by corporate media, Clancy’s liberal, female-dominated jury ignored their civic duty to render a verdict based on the facts of the case and instead decided they would imitate activist judges, using their platform to advance their own perverse feminist cause.

The cadre of social justice jurors accused the holdout of ignoring the judge’s instructions while all along it was they who had ignored the law.   

During a weekend CBS Morning show, juror Paula Devlin spilled the beans: “We knew that this was a turning point, and this would be something that could change something to make it better for other women in the future.”

Poland’s prime minister has warned Russia could launch “hybrid drone and missile strikes” against his country and other countries on NATO’s eastern flank while portraying them as accidents.

Donald Tusk issued the warning in the Polish parliament on Thursday, citing intelligence assessments. He said such attacks could be intended to test NATO’s willingness to invoke Article 5, which requires member states to come to the defence of an ally under attack.

“There is a real risk that drones or other types of missiles could enter the territory of one or several countries on the eastern flank and even cause damage, while the official narrative would be that it was an accident,” he said.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday that Moscow has no intention of attacking Europe, but warned that if Europe attacks Russia, the resulting war will be “very short”.

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that Iran has contacted the United States “directly” and “very much” wants a deal, expressing hope that the nearly seven-month conflict is approaching its end after predicting last week that the fighting would conclude following November’s midterm elections.

“Hopefully we’re toward the end of the war,” Trump told reporters after arriving in North Carolina, responding to a question about what phase the conflict had reached.

Trump then turned to the prospect of an agreement with Tehran.

“Iran is very much wanting to make a deal,” he said. “We’ll see how that works out.”

Asked moments later whether he had recently heard from Iran directly or through intermediaries, Trump replied: “Directly.”

The disclosure follows a series of increasingly explicit statements from Trump that the conflict could be approaching its end. Last week, he predicted the fighting would conclude following the November midterm elections, arguing that Tehran could no longer sustain the pressure.

“I think the war will end immediately after the election because they can’t hold out any longer,” Trump said.

By Monday, Trump was publicly describing Tehran as actively seeking an agreement while leaving the decision over renewed engagement to Washington.

“The failing Nation of Iran wants to make a deal, quickly and badly,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “I will determine whether or not the U.S.A. will choose to engage — the concept of which we are open to.”
