Inquest opens into death of ex-Cambridge University professor Jason Arday– abcnews.com

EXCERPT:

LONDON — An inquest opened Wednesday into the sudden death earlier this month of Jason Arday, a Cambridge University professor who faced a storm of plagiarism accusations.

Arday, 41, who became Cambridge’s youngest Black professor in 2023, was found dead at an address in south London on Aug. 13, days after he resigned his post as professor of sociology of education following intense media scrutiny of his credentials and many of the other claims he had made about his accomplishments outside of academia.

The inquest opened with a short hearing at London Inner South Coroner’s Court. Any deaths in the U.K. that are deemed to exhibit uncertainties of one form or another are investigated by a coroner.

“The various reports have given me reason to suspect that Professor Arday died an unnatural death 12 days ago,” said senior coroner Dr. Julian Morris. “It therefore follows that I must open an investigation.”

Police said at the time of his death that it was being treated as “unexpected” but not suspicious.

Questions about Arday’s qualifications were raised publicly last month by Nathan Cofnas, a one-time Cambridge philosophy researcher who left the university after his critique of diversity, equity and inclusion programs sparked widespread protests. Cofnas previously argued that in a meritocracy, Black people “would disappear from almost all high-profile positions outside of sports and entertainment.” Cofnas was last week suspended from his post at Ghent University in Belgium.

Soros-backed democrat threatens to “blow up” Trump’s ballroom if Democrats are allowed to regain power– www.louderwithcrowder.com

As we approach the midterm elections, a good reminder of who the enemy is is to listen to what they are willing to say out loud BEFORE they regain power. Like, and this is just an example off the top of my head, Soros-backed Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner threatening to blow up a portion of the White House. He’s a democrat, so before we accuse him of making a terrorist threat, we have to wait for “independent” “fact” “checkers” to determine what he meant by that.

You may remember Larry Krasner from such other viral clips as “ICE agents are Nazis,” “I’m gonna arrest ICE agents,” and “but looters are misunderstood.” I’m paraphrasing, but only barely.

Also, you may remember Philadelphia as being so overrun with drugs that Mexico used it in an anti-drug commercial. In Mexico. Where the drugs are coming from.

Drugs are fine. Crime is ok. But Trump ballroom is offensive.

I’m going to have a paperweight sitting on my desk. You know what that paperweight is going to be? It’s going to be a piece of the ballroom after we all blow it up.” … In an official ceremony, we’re going to blow it up.

A Mutation Is Making It Easier for Drug-Resistant Malaria to Spread– www.wired.com

EXCERPT:

The main drug that has been in use for decades to combat malaria in sub-Saharan Africa is running into a problem: In recent years, researchers have become increasingly concerned that parasites are becoming less sensitive to treatment. Identifying the underlying genetic factors has become an urgent priority.

In an attempt to identify the reason for drug-resistant malaria, a team led by Brown University researchers conducted whole-genome analysis of 157 malaria parasite samples selected from specimens collected in Uganda between 2016 and 2024. The work, published in Nature Medicine this week, shows evidence that mutations in a gene that encodes a protein called px1, which had previously received little attention, is likely responsible for the rise in drug resistance.

“Malaria still is a major killer, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa,” Jeffrey Bailey, an associate professor at Brown University specializing in pathology, says in a press release. “As drug resistance continues to emerge, we worry it will undermine control of its spread and result in even more deaths for a large number of people there and beyond.”

Luigi Mangione’s Guilty Plea Gambit May Have Just Paid Off in a Big Way – RedState– redstate.com

EXCERPT:

The case of Luigi Mangione, 28, who admitted last week in federal court that he murdered UnitedHealthCare CEO Brian Thompson in December of 2024, has taken yet another dramatic turn.

As RedState previously reported, Mangione pleaded guilty last Friday to federal stalking charges in the shooting death of Thompson, who was gunned down as he made his way to an investors conference in New York City. The guilty plea was not part of a plea agreement, but an apparent gambit by the defense to get his state murder charges thrown out.

When making his plea official, the defendant admitted to shooting Thompson, saying, “On the morning of Dec. 4, 2024, I shot Mr. Thompson in Manhattan, and he died.” He added, “I knew what I was doing was illegal.”

“Before traveling to New York, I used a 3D printer to make a gun,” he admitted. “On the morning of Dec. 4, 2024, I shot Mr. Thompson in Manhattan, and he died. When I did so, I understood my actions put him in … I knew what I was doing was illegal.”

Legal experts have speculated that Mangione’s legal team risked having their client plead guilty to the federal stalking charges in order to have his state murder charges thrown out because of New York state’s double jeopardy protections. His murder trial was expected to begin on September 8.

University suspends academic whose investigation exposed disgraced Cambridge Professor Jason Arday– www.thecollegefix.com

EXCERPT:

The scholar credited with first exposing fabulist academic Jason Arday’s plagiarism and biographical embellishments has been suspended by his university in the wake of Arday’s apparent suicide.

“I was just suspended by Ghent University. They will almost certainly fire me,” Nathan Cofnas posted on X on Thursday. “The decision was made by rector Petra De Sutter, a former leader of the Green Party.”

Arday made history as the youngest black professor at the University of Cambridge. While questions and concerns were raised both internally and more recently in media reports regarding alleged sloppy research and plagiarism, his fall from grace is primarily linked to Cofnas’ July 21 Substack piece “DEI Fraud and Cover-Up at Cambridge.”

Cofnas details the plagiarism concerns over his dissertation as well as casts doubt on Arday’s far-fetched biographical claims.

Arday had described himself as non-verbal until age 11 and said he could not read or write until age 18. He also said he ran 30 marathons in 35 days, claims to have raised millions of dollars for charities in recent decades, and alleged he was sent bananas, bullets, and a pig’s head in the mail.

Britain’s government is providing asylum seekers with a guide explaining laws against rape, sex with children and sexual harassment, as the Labour government prepares to place more migrants in communities across the country.

The nine-page Home Office document, titled “Understanding behaviours and expectations in the UK,” outlines British laws and social norms for migrants seeking asylum.

The guide explains that sexual activity requires consent and that a person who is asleep, intoxicated or otherwise unable to respond cannot provide it.

“If you have sex with someone without their consent, this is called rape. Rape is a serious crime in the UK,” the guide states, warning that offenders could face prison and consequences for their asylum claims and government support.

The FBI on Thursday said it foiled a planned radical Islamic terrorist attack in New York.

The Bureau explained that the plot involved a woman who allegedly planned to bomb the New York State Capitol building and carry out future attacks, according the NBC News:

A woman has been charged with providing support to a terror group after allegedly plotting an ISIS-inspired attack on the New York State Capitol building in Albany, federal officials said Thursday.

Jessica Bowie, 35, allegedly told a confidential source that she supported ISIS and asked for help learning to make explosives, according to a criminal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York.

Bowie is expected in court Thursday afternoon on a single charge of attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terror organization.

A WNBA task force said last week it would be holding a meeting to discuss trans-identifying athletes and their eligibility in the league.

The meeting was meant to be all-hands-on-deck, with presidents and general managers gathering with league officials on Wednesday amid what seems like constant controversy for the league.

‘We will approach these important conversations thoughtfully.’

Protests and counterprotests have left the WNBA swimming in incidents, resulting in growing calls for the league to adopt a female-only policy that has spread across sports worldwide.

WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert had sent a memo to team representatives that the topic would be discussed at the meeting, but at the meeting, no conclusion on any actual policy seems to have been reached.

In its official statement, the league briefly touched on the idea of making a decision before criticizing its detractors.

President Trump Says South Korea Refused To Help With “Denuclearization” Of Iran – Instructs Pete Hegseth To Reduce Joint Military Exercises– wltreport.com

EXCERPT:

President Trump on Sunday said he instructed Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to “reduce” joint military exercises with South Korea due to his “very good relationship” with Kim Jong Un of North Korea.

Trump said he is “not happy” that the United States, long ago, agreed to joint military exercises with South Korea.

“These exercises are not only costly, with much of these costs paid for by the United States of America (as usual!), but send a signal that is totally inappropriate and hostile, to a Country that, as long as Donald J. Trump has been President, has been unthreatening and respectful. Therefore, and based on the fact that it is too late to cancel, I have instructed Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to substantially reduce the Joint Military Exercises!” Trump explained.

“While somewhat unrelated (?), I recently asked the President of South Korea if they would like to join us in the Denuclearization of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and they said, ‘No thanks!’” he added.

Scott Bessent urges US partners to back plans to ‘squash’ Iran economy– www.bbc.co.uk

EXCERPT:

The Iranian economy has long been struggling under the weight of decades of international sanctions, which left it in tatters.

Earlier this year, Iran experienced weeks of protests due to the spiralling cost of living and inflation – with everyday Iranians blaming the regime for their difficulties.

Official figures show that in the 12 months to February 2026, the price of basic necessities increased by an average 60%, while food prices doubled in the same period.

At the time, Trump told demonstrators “help is on the way” as he urged them to “keep protesting”.

A little over a month later, the US joined Israel in its attack on Iran – and later implemented a blockade on Iranian ports, threatening further sanctions.

In April, the US launched a wave of sanctions on foreign banks and firms doing business with Tehran after it became apparent military operations had not led to the overthrow of Iran’s regime nor its surrender, as Trump had initially hoped.

David Morens admitted using private email to conceal communications tied to US-funded coronavirus research in Wuhan

A former senior official who worked under US Covid czar Anthony Fauci has pleaded guilty to conspiring to hide government records concerning coronavirus research and the origins of the pandemic.

David Morens served as a senior adviser at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), which Fauci headed, between 2006 and 2022. He was indicted on April 28 on charges including conspiracy against the US, destroying or falsifying federal records, concealing records, and aiding and abetting, over an alleged scheme to evade public-records requests concerning Covid-19 research.

On Tuesday, Morens pleaded guilty in federal court in Greenbelt, Maryland, to one count of conspiracy to commit offenses and defraud the US. He admitted that he and others had deliberately used his personal Gmail account to evade Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.

He now faces up to five years in prison and is due to be sentenced on November 12.

President Donald Trump said Wednesday he expects to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un later this year, signaling a renewed push for direct diplomacy despite Pyongyang publicly rejecting the prospect of a meeting.

“I get along with him very well,” Trump told reporters during a White House construction tour. “I expected to meet with him later this year. Yeah, I will be.”

Trump offered no date or location for a potential meeting and declined to say whether he and Kim had recently exchanged letters.

North Korea, however, pushed back on the prospect while acknowledging that the personal relationship between the two leaders remains intact.

“The relationship between the two leaders remains excellent,” Kim’s sister, Kim Yo Jong, said in a statement carried by state media. “However, the U.S.’s hostile policies toward the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea haven’t changed.”

Court Records: Here’s What James Comey’s Own Relative Thought of the ‘86 47’ Post – RedState– redstate.com

EXCERPT:

Even James Comey’s own family isn’t buying the spin. Well, one relative at least.

Court records released in his ongoing federal case over the “86 47” Instagram post show that one relative went nuclear, mentioning the connotations involved in his message and suggesting the former FBI Director belongs in prison.

In a text message sent to Comey’s wife, Patrice, the family member called the seashell photo a clear “call for violence.”

The message accused the couple of having gone “off the deep end” with Trump Derangement Syndrome. It got more personal from there.

“’86 47′ is a call for violence no matter how you spin it. You should be ashamed of yourselves. I am thoroughly embarrassed to have ever defended the absolute coward that is your husband. You and Jim are some of the least accepting, most hypocritical people I’ve had the displeasure of knowing,” the individual said. “I hope Jim goes to jail for his crimes.”
