Hungary unveils new ‘clean up’ plan as governemnt takes first steps to unlocking frozen EU funds– www.euronews.com

EXCERPT:

The Hungarian Integrity Authority is setting up a register of economic operators excluded from public procurement after they were deemed to have committed criminal offences.

This measure, which is essential for the resumption of EU funding, is intended not only to weed out abuses but also to offer a chance for self-cleaning, according to the government.

Budapest argued on Thursday that those who can prove that they have “restored their trustworthiness” should have their names removed from the register.

The Hungarian Integrity Authority is also launching the first registration procedures and will begin keeping a list of economic operators excluded from public procurement.

The primary purpose of operating this publicly accessible database is to ensure that no economic operator can take part in public procurement procedures if its executive officer, member of the supervisory board, managing director or beneficial owner has been the subject to a final court decision for criminal offences as defined in the Public Procurement Act.

The authority stressed that the measure concerns a clearly defined group in legal terms; while making the information public was not about stigmatisation, but about preventing further abuses and ensuring the integrity of public procurement.

Bishop calls the devil ‘imaginary’ in assault on St. Michael devotion– www.lifesitenews.com

A Brazilian bishop has attacked consecration to St. Michael the Archangel while suggesting that the devil is “rather imaginary.”

“Are there theological justifications for Consecration to Saint Michael? Consecration is to God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,” wrote Bishop Vicente Ferreira on X last week. “Isn’t the devil we fight against rather imaginary?” he added.

“The greater exorcism should be: of homophobia, of femicide, of racism, of crimes against indigenous peoples. Of that legion of evils,” he concluded, in a statement originally written in Portuguese.

The tweet appears to be aimed at another Brazilian bishop. On the same day as Ferreira’s statement, the archbishop of Montes Claros, José Carlos Campos, consecrated his archdiocese to St Michael.

Ferreira was slammed for his denigration of devotion to St. Michael, who is invoked for spiritual defense against the devil by Catholics because he was given power by God to cast the devil and his followers from Heaven.

“What is your religion? You should convert to Catholicism,” wrote one X user. “At your age, worrying about these woke idiocies isn’t going to get you to heaven. You should be concerned with saving your soul.”

WNBA Suddenly Needs Time to Evaluate Men Competing, But the League Wasn’t Confused in This Resurfaced Post– www.westernjournal.com

As the WNBA tries to fathom what the “W” in their own name stands for, its own past statements on social media are revealing the entity’s biases against their own athletes.

The league was dropped into the middle of the debate over whether men should take away athletic opportunities for women when Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham said it was unfair for males to compete against females. A counter-attack erupted within the league as coaches and players fired back by spewing the liberal orthodoxy that mediocre transgender athletes need a place to win awards.

The WNBA’s 2026 collective bargaining agreement says, “only players who are women are eligible to play in the WNBA.”

But there is no definition of women in the policy, and the issue of men playing in the WNBA by saying they identify as female is not discussed.

The WNBA was not allowed to simply let the issue fade after two former male NBA players said they want to be selected in the 2027 draft given the lack of any barriers in the league’s rules.

Buffeted by the winds of controversy, the league sought refuge in the traditional remedies of meetings, task forces, and PR statements.

Michigan Democrats’ newly anointed Senate candidate blamed gun rights and “right-wing media” for a 2023 mass shooting at a Nashville Christian school at the hands of a mentally disturbed woman pretending to be a man.

In a now-deleted podcast in April 2023, Abdul El-Sayed claimed that the school shooting wasn’t a “trans problem” but “a gun problem.”

“After this shooting in Tennessee, right-wing media wanted to talk about the identity of the shooter who happened to identify as trans,” El-Sayed said during his opening monologue on the podcast, according to a story first reported by the Post Millennial.

The far-left Senate candidate was referring to Audrey Hale, the 28-year-old trans-identifying psychopath who stormed into the Covenant School, a Christian elementary, on March 27, 2023 and fatally shot six people, including three third-graders. She was shot and killed by a responding police officer before she could take more innocent lives.

Hale left behind a “manifesto” — multiple journals, in fact— filled with extreme leftist ideology, deranged entries laboring on her apparent white guilt and an urge to “kill all the white kids,” as well as plans laying out her deadly errand.

Investigative journalist James O’Keefe has released undercover footage exposing how Minnesota’s controversial voter “vouching” system allows registered voters to verify the identity and residency of up to eight other unregistered people who lack standard identification.

The investigation was carried out during Tuesday’s Minnesota primary election, with O’Keefe disguising himself as a Muslim man while investigative journalist Cam Higby wore a burqa and posed as a Muslim woman.

The pair visited multiple polling locations across Minneapolis to test how election workers would respond when presented with a scenario involving several unregistered individuals attempting to vote without ID.

The responses stunned even the investigators.

West fled to Texas for legal protection and specialized care, giving birth to the boy, whom she named Gabriel, on Wednesday at a Dallas hospital.

The United States on Thursday said it could maintain a naval blockade of Iran indefinitely and would ratchet up economic pressure on Tehran as ceasefire talks have floundered, global ‌oil supply is dropping and regional tensions are rising.

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth told reporters that the U.S. military could keep a naval presence in the region to enforce its blockade of Iran, which has inflicted severe economic damage on the country.

“Indefinitely, the United States Navy can maintain a blockade like that because we’ll rotate ships in and out, as we have, and we’ll continue to,” Hegseth told reporters on a trip to Panama.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Thursday that the United States planned to inflict more financial damage on Iran.

Shocker: Abdul El-Sayed’s Horrific ‘Dog Slaughterhouse’ – RedState– redstate.com

It’s safe to say that most Americans love dogs. The relationship between those lovable mutts and their people is like nothing else; there is no other domesticated animal that associates with us not by our choice, but theirs, the way dogs do. They are faithful companions, loyal helpers and guardians, and they love us without reservation. Whenever anyone proclaims “you can’t buy love,” it’s a safe bet they’ve never had a puppy.

In some cultures, though, our traditional love for Canis lupus familiaris isn’t shared. Which brings us to the current Democrat candidate for a Michigan Senate seat, Abdul El-Sayed, and his tenure as Detroit’s health director. During this stint, El-Sayed was responsible for, among other things, Detroit’s animal control department, and his handling of that department prompted an employee to describe it as a “dog slaughterhouse.”

El-Sayed’s campaign, of course, is touting a significant improvement in the shelter’s live-release rate.

Detroit Animal Care and Control’s (DACC) live-release rate was roughly 20% to 26% when El-Sayed inherited the operation in late 2015 but climbed to about 61% to 62% by late 2016 — an improvement his campaign points to in arguing that the raw number of animals euthanized during his tenure obscures a turnaround from the dire conditions and euthanasia rates he inherited. The Daily Mail reported that records covering the period surrounding El-Sayed’s tenure showed 4,680 dogs and cats were euthanized, with 1,056 dogs and 29 cats getting euthanized in the first full calendar year DACC was under El-Sayed’s Health Department.

Accused Charlie Kirk assassin Tyler Robinson asks judge to take potential death penalty off table

Lawyers for accused Charlie Kirk assassin Tyler Robinson are arguing that prosecutors haven’t established a case for the potential death penalty in a new court filing made public Tuesday night.

“The facts and the law require this Court to strike the sole aggravating factor,” defense attorneys Kathy Nester, Michael Burt, Richard Novak and Staci Visser wrote in a 41-page brief.

After a weeklong preliminary hearing in early July, Judge Tony Graf Jr. gave both sides in the case time to file briefs before he makes a decision on whether there is enough probable cause to send the case to trial — which he is expected to announce on Sept. 1.

Robinson, 23, is accused of shooting the 31-year-old Kirk at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10, 2025, during a Turning Point USA event. Kirk had founded the group to promote conservatism on campuses around the country and was speaking in front of a crowd of more than 2,000 in the courtyard when he was struck and killed by a single bullet.

Robinson’s defense argued in Tuesday’s filing that prosecutors didn’t establish probable cause concerning the aggravating factor — that the shooting created a high probability of death to someone other than Kirk and that Robinson knew of that “high probability.”

Without the aggravator, the potential death penalty would be taken off the table.

“The State had over ten months to investigate the shooting death of Charlie Kirk and to develop legally sufficient evidence that Mr. Robinson ‘knowingly created a great risk of death to another other than Charlie Kirk and the defendant,’ the sole aggravator alleged in the Information which in theory exposes Mr. Robinson to the potential punishment of death,” Robinson’s attorneys wrote. “The State’s presentation of its evidence as to this alleged circumstance in aggravation at the preliminary hearing in July 2026 wholly fails to carry its burden of proof.”

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday he will impose tariffs on imports of drones and their components, including from some key U.S. allies, with the Trump administration saying the country was “too reliant” on foreign sources of drones.

A proclamation signed by Trump imposes a 100% ad valorem tariff on drones of a certain size or with certain capabilities that are particularly sensitive for national security purposes, the White House said, adding that a tariff of 25% will be imposed on drones that are smaller in size.

A 15% tariff will be imposed on drones and components from the European Union, Japan, Liechtenstein, South Korea, Switzerland, and Taiwan, and a 10% ad valorem tariff will be imposed on drones from the UK, the White House added.

Trump has made tariffs a central pillar of his foreign and trade policies despite legal setbacks and criticism from some analysts.

Count Binface — the bloke who campaigns with a metal bin on his head — got 27 per cent and 9,455 votes. More than a quarter of the entire turnout. In a seat that prides itself on being anti-establishment, one in four people looked at the ballot paper and decided the man in the rubbish bin was the best option available.

That’s not a funny anecdote. That’s the story.

The main parties didn’t even bother turning up. No Labour, no Conservatives, no Lib Dems, no Greens. The whole thing became Farage versus a joke candidate, with a few independents and tiny parties making up the numbers. Laurence Fox’s Reclaim managed 347 votes and limped home sixth. Neuroscientists have vastly underestimated brain cells’ computing power– www.scientificamerican.com
News Source
EXCERPT:

One of the central mysteries of the brain is how it achieves so much with so little. At any given moment, it processes an entire world of input, pilots a body and generates conscious experience—all with relatively modest energy demands. Traditionally, the brain’s 86 billion neurons are each assumed to be a single “processor,” operating as one computational unit. But for the past few decades, neuroscientists have suspected that a neuron might actually house many processors, making it far more powerful. Now researchers have found the first direct evidence of this in animals, showing that neurons’ many branches, called dendrites, can compute information independently of the cell body.

The study, published in July in Science, shows that dendrites “dramatically expand” the computational capacity of individual neurons and, consequently, of the brain as a whole, says senior author Attila Losonczy, a neuroscientist at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Neurons in textbook diagrams look deceptively simple, with only a handful of dendrites extending from the cell body. In reality, they sprawl wildly into elaborate treelike arbors, allowing a single neuron to receive input from thousands of its neighbors. Scientists once thought these dendrites were little more than “boring cables” that merely passed incoming signals to the cell body for processing, Losonczy says. If this were true, each neuron would essentially be one computational unit.

Israel shuts down Christian village terrorized by Jewish settlers– www.lifesitenews.com

EXCERPT:

(LifeSiteNews) — The Israeli military designated Taybeh — the only village left in the West Bank entirely inhabited by Christians — as a “closed military zone” on Sunday. The decision came against a backdrop of escalating and ongoing Jewish terrorist attacks by Israeli “settlers” on these communities.

The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) claimed the measure was introduced in response to “some violent attacks by Israelis in the region.” As a result, Israelis and all other non-residents are prohibited from entering the village.

Although the closure is presented as a protective step, Taybeh mayor Suleiman Khouria observed that it places additional restrictions on the residents themselves and does little to shield them from Jewish “settlers” whose colonies (“settlements” and “outposts”) on stolen Palestinian land are all deemed illegal under international law.

The mayor described the closure as “an attempt to further tighten the noose on villagers rather than a measure to protect them.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. (LifeSiteNews) – The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) released a report Thursday identifying millions of dollars in insurance claims that billed for underage gender “transition” procedures under false pretenses.

The 64-page report, Wolves in White Coats: How Doctors and Hospitals Pushed and Profited from the Fraud of “Gender Medicine,” examined more than 225 hospitals and health systems nationwide that offer pediatric gender programs by reviewing scientific literature, hospital records, whistleblower accounts, insurance claims, and interviews with patients and their parents.

It found “approximately $50 million in insurance claims for puberty blockers billed using endocrine disorder diagnostic code E34.9 (Endocrine Disorder, Unspecified). It further reported that nearly $11 million in claims for patients ages 13-17 were billed using a diagnosis code for precocious puberty E301 — findings the report said warrant additional review of insurance coding practices,” according to an HHS press release. The report called for greater oversight and review of insurance billing and coding practices as well as further evaluation of “gender medicine” policies.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani promised relief for tenants, but New York’s apartment market is serving up another painful reality.

The average asking rent for an available Manhattan apartment has climbed to a staggering $6,655 a month, according to industry experts. That’s a 10% spike from a year ago.

Studios now average more than $4,000 a month, while families searching for three bedrooms can expect to shell out upward of $12,000 every month.

Zohran Mamdani’s “rent freeze” won’t fix the forces driving up those prices, and, according to a new analysis by the New York Post, the policy could make the housing crunch even worse.

Roughly 1 million apartments, accounting for more than a quarter of the city’s housing supply, are protected from market pricing by rent regulation. Tenants in those units have little incentive to move, leaving fewer apartments available and pushing up the cost of the city’s roughly 1 million market-rate units.

The freeze also disproportionately helps higher-income tenants rather than the lower-income New Yorkers progressives claim to champion.

Paramount CEO David Ellison is reportedly considering moving CBS News out of New York City as the company’s legal fight with its state attorney general over its proposed $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery heats up.

Sources close to Paramount told The New York Post that moving CBS would give Elison greater leverage against the California Attorney General led coalition of 12 states looking to block the merger.

CBS News employs roughly 1,200 people worldwide with a large portion based in the Big Apple. A massive relocation would no doubt have a major impact on jobs and the city’s media industry.

SpaceXAI is rolling out new artificial intelligence software that’s designed to act like a team of AI agents fielding assignments throughout the day, marking the latest bid by Elon Musk’s company to keep pace with Anthropic PBC and OpenAI.

The new product, called Grok Bot, is designed to seamlessly handle a wide range of professional work. The tool can sign into various apps and websites, retain information from prior tasks and enable bots to share details and context with each other, the company said Tuesday.

The product is part of Musk’s broader push to catch up in the AI race after slipping behind in the fast-growing market for AI agents. SpaceXAI, as Musk’s AI outfit is now known, released its first coding agent in May to compete with Anthropic’s offerings, followed by the new Grok 4.5 built with Cursor.

SpaceX reached a $60 billion agreement in June to acquire Cursor, an AI coding startup. Cursor emerged as a key player in tech’s so-called vibe coding era, as demand surged for tools that can write and debug software programming.

While she’s earned her spot as a rising star in the briefing room, her new role will likely be an even greater service to the country, as she hinted in a farewell message posted on Wednesday.

“Our country is facing an existential threat from an increasingly extremist Democrat Party that seeks to destroy everything great about America, and I believe it is incumbent upon all of us who care about this country to fight back against that threat,” she wrote. “My fight is entering a new phase, but it is far from over.”

Leavitt, who assumed her role at the beginning of President Donald Trump’s second term after working as his press secretary on the campaign trail, welcomed a son in July 2024 and a daughter in May, both of whom she shares with her husband Nicholas Riccio. After the birth of her son, Leavitt took three days off before an assassination attempt against then-candidate Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, brought her back from maternity leave.

Leavitt has received praise for “doing it all,” juggling one of the most high-pressure jobs in the world with motherhood of young children. Less than a year after her son’s birth, she was pictured at her desk bottle-feeding him in one arm while typing with the other. The photo went viral, with many cheering the “super mom” and others expressing sympathy.
