Trump considering AI controls after OpenAI hacking incidents www.bbc.co.uk

EXCERPT:

US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that his administration is considering asserting more power over artificial intelligence (AI) tools after recent cybersecurity incidents.

Asked about OpenAI’s tools being responsible for improperly breaching the private technology of other companies, Trump said: “We’re looking at AI, we’re looking at controls, we’re also making sure that we lead.”

It marks a change of tone for his administration, which has taken a more hands-off approach to the technology.

Trump’s comments come after an escalation of not only the apparent hacking capabilities of popular AI tools, but White House threats aimed at competing Chinese tech.

Trump added that while some kind of control around AI tools was on the table, such a move would have to be done carefully.

“We don’t want to restrict them where all of the sudden we come in second to China,” he said.

“China has virtually no [AI] controls. It’s freewheeling a little bit,” Trump added.

‘Out of Context’: Morning Joe Defends Fauci Diaries Before Hearing www.newsbusters.org

EXCERPT:

Before Dr. Anthony Fauci pleaded the Fifth Amendment at a Senate hearing after the release of his diaries from the pandemic, Wednesday’s Morning Joe gave a preview of the hearing where 8 AM host Jonathan Lemire defended Fauci and called much of it “taken out of context.”

Lemire also minimized the possible Chinese lab origins of COVID-19 and possible U.S. funding of gain-of-function labs, which he called “unproven.”

Just as the Senate hearing was set to begin, Lemire introduced the hearing as “Fauci is expected to face some tough questions about the origins of COVID-19 and the federal government’s response to the virus.”

The MS NOW host then detailed released pages of Fauci’s diary and focused on his talk of a “newfound celebrity status”:

This comes just days after Senator Rand Paul (R-KY)released more than 1000 pages of Fauci’s diary entries from the early months of the pandemic. In some of the entries, Fauci does reveal how much he enjoyed his newfound celebrity status, calling it “flattering.” (…)

Federal Agents Arrest Over 900 Suspected Human Traffickers During World Cup Operations, 180 Victims Rescued slaynews.com

Federal agents arrested 905 suspected human traffickers and rescued 180 victims, including 30 children, during a sweeping law enforcement operation tied to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Department of Homeland Security announced Wednesday.

The arrests were carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

They worked in coordination with the DHS Center for Countering Human Trafficking and federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.

The operations targeted trafficking networks operating in World Cup host cities across the United States.

In a statement, DHS Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said:

“While Americans and international visitors were enjoying the FIFA World Cup, the men and women of ICE law enforcement were hard at work cracking down on human trafficking operations in FIFA host cities across the country.

“Federal law enforcement arrested more than 900 suspects and rescued nearly 200 victims.

“Under President Trump and Secretary Mullin, we are dismantling human trafficking networks.”

Zohran Mamdani calls for reparations because of what he claims was NYC’s alleged role in slavery www.louderwithcrowder.com

EXCERPT:

New York City is supposedly studying reparations. It is unclear what needs to be studied, considering no one alive today was a slave, nor was anyone alive today a slave owner. Nonetheless, that won’t stop Mayor Zohran Mamdani from not ruling out handing over cash to people who were never victims, all paid for by people who never committed these crimes.

When Mamdani was asked if he supports reparations if a commission recommended it, he failed to rule it out and clarified he believes, “in New York City, we were very complicit” when it comes to slavery, and that paying people who were never slaves may need to be done to “acknowledge what history truly was.”

I do not have to tell you why this is an asinine idea, but for a city that continues to face massive budget deficits and needs assistance from the Gov. to bail itself out, the last thing these people should be doing is paying people based on skin color.

Question: What about White people who are descendants of slaves? Will they also be getting a paycheck for never being a victim?

While I am no legal expert, this does not seem to be what you would call “legal.” Not only do they want to punish and reward people based on ancestral crimes, but they are engaging in a whole other level of evil to make the premise be about skin color.

On Tuesday, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) released a trove of diary entries from Dr. Anthony Fauci, the 85-year-old immunologist and public health veteran who led the US response to the Covid pandemic in 2020. On X, Paul posted an AI-generated image of a grinning, pastel-sweater-clad Anthony Fauci lying on his stomach on a purple shag carpet, poring over a unicorn-themed diary and surrounded by teen girl accoutrements. Paul explained to his 5.9 million followers that the image was “What Anthony Fauci looked like every night when he wrote about how great he is in his diary.”

The diary entries contain plenty of cringeworthy moments—Fauci congratulating himself on how famous he had become, for example, and basking in the attention of female celebrities like Julia Roberts and Barbra Streisand. What they don’t contain—much to the dismay of Paul and Fauci’s other critics—is any kind of smoking gun proving that the public health leader deliberately misled the American people.

Undeterred, Covid truthers have only amped up their efforts to prove that Fauci lied—and they’re spinning up conspiracy theories about crucial information they say is missing from the diary.

30+ Christians Killed in Nigeria in Latest Attack: ‘Every Month, We Bury Our People’ www.cbn.com

EXCERPT:

At least 30 Christians were killed in an attack on their village in Kaduna State in Nigeria on Sunday. Truth Nigeria reports the number of killed actually exceeds 60 people, citing multiple attacks.

According to International Christian Concern (ICC), gunmen entered the village of Naridon and began firing on people inside their homes. They also set several houses on fire as people fled into the fields.

A ministry called Building Zion reports the attacks continued for many hours without any response from security or government forces, stretching into the early morning.

“Every month, we bury our people,” Rt. Hon. Stephen Hajara, spokesperson for the Kauru Local Government Legislative Council, told ICC. “Last month, we buried 11 people, including children; now, another mass burial of 30. Enough is enough, please! Please come to our aid!”

Some community members described the attackers as suspected ethnic Fulani militants.

“The same community was attacked last year around this time,” said Derek Christopher, chairman of the civil society group Southern Kaduna Peace and Security Network. He suggests that the government has abandoned any intention of protecting the area from attacks by armed groups. “I don’t know who these people have left to fight for them,” he said.

CBN News spoke with Alex Barbir, founder of Building Zion, who has traveled to the most ravaged villages in Nigeria to help Christians rebuild their destroyed homes and communities. Here’s what he told us about this latest group of attacks:

Anti-ICE Mayor of St Paul Under Investigation For Sexually Harassing Police Chief With ‘Weiner Wednesday’ Text › American Greatness amgreatness.com

EXCERPT:

The anti-ICE Democrat mayor of St. Paul, Minnesota, is reportedly under investigation for alleged sexual harassment and inappropriate conduct toward St. Paul Police Chief Axel Henry and city employees, following a formal complaint filed by Henry.

Mayor Kaohly Her (DFL) is accused of sexually harassing Henry in one instance with an obscene text message.

In a letter to the city attorney on April 1, Henry’s attorney Chris Madel stated that “litigation is reasonably foreseeable.”

Madel alleged in the letter that Her’s conduct “extended beyond isolated incidents” and included harassment of subordinate city employees and members of the St. Paul Police Department.

Specific allegations cited in the complaint include a text message referencing “Weiner Wednesday,” a police department tradition, which contained a sexually suggestive meme and caption involving a photoshopped image of a security officer.

In the letter, Madel called on the city attorney to “take all steps necessary to perform a full filesystem extraction” of Her’s phones.

Meanwhile, Henry has participated in at least two extensive interviews with investigators, 5 Eyewitness News reported.

Madel told 5 Eyewitness News in a statement, “Chief Henry just closed a triple-homicide case in under four hours. He’s got a city to keep safe and has no comment on this.”

Trump says no plans to end Iran war because of strikes on US bases – World tass.com

WASHINGTON, July 29. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump has said he is not considering ending the military operation against Iran because of Tehran’s strikes on US bases in the Middle East.

“I don’t see that,” Trump told reporters at the White House when asked whether Washington could withdraw troops from the region following Iran’s attacks. “Will I always hit back? Yes, pretty much,” he added.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported on July 28 that multiple Iranian ballistic missiles had been intercepted. Earlier, Barak Ravid, a reporter for the Axios news website and Israel’s Channel 12, said, citing a US official, that Iran had launched missiles at the United States’ military base in Jordan.

The US Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina, has been evacuated due to a reported bomb threat. A huge police presence has been set up around the perimeter of the diplomatic area in the Palermo neighbourhood of the Argentine capital.

A message from the US Embassy in Argentina later said the threat “was ruled out following a thorough investigation,” and added “all staff are safe”.

Sources from the City Police told local media that staff at the embassy received a phone call in which an anonymous person said: “There is a bomb outside the embassy. For this reason, the Argentine Federal Police are working at the scene.”

Argentina’s Federal Police then confirmed that “the threat was made by phone call,” and “there was a preventive evacuation” while the Explosives Unit of the PFA Fire Department continued to work at the scene.

The full message, shared on X by the official account of the embassy, read: “The embassy received a bomb threat today, which was ruled out following a thorough investigation. All staff are safe. We deeply appreciate the swift intervention and professionalism of the Argentine Federal Police and the Buenos Aires City Police, whose response enabled the situation to be resolved safely.”

Another police spokesperson previously added that “the Explosives Brigade has been deployed to the scene. The street has been closed off and the brigade is carrying out the necessary procedures around the perimeter of the diplomatic headquarters.”

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton accused state Rep. James Talarico (D-TX), his Democratic Senate rival, of election fraud after a report alleged that Talarico registered to vote at his mother’s Austin address shortly before filing to run for a Texas House seat.

The Federalist reported that Talarico registered at the address in December 2021, days before the candidate filing deadline, as he prepared to campaign in a newly drawn district where he had not previously lived.

Paxton seized on the allegations Tuesday, accusing Talarico of disregarding Texas election law to secure a safe Democratic seat.

“James Talarico has proven he has zero regard for Texans and the rule of law,” Paxton wrote on X.

“He’s been lying to voters and shamelessly committing election fraud to hold onto power.”

Fauci Directly Funded University Experiments Attaching Aborted Baby Scalps to Rats www.lifenews.com

EXCERPT:

Former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci bears direct responsibility for approving taxpayer funding of experiments at the University of Pittsburgh that grafted scalps from aborted babies onto the backs of laboratory rats, pro-life investigators charged Tuesday.

The research, published in the journal Scientific Reports in 2020, used full-thickness skin from the scalps of babies aborted at 18 to 20 weeks of pregnancy—roughly five months gestation—to create “humanized” mice and rats for studying the human immune system. Photographs accompanying the study show the grafted tissue growing tufts of fine baby hair on the animals.

Federal records confirm that Fauci’s NIAID provided approximately $430,000 in grants to the University of Pittsburgh researchers in 2018 and 2019 for the project. Additional NIH support was also listed.

RINOs Are Banking On Iran War To Drive MAGA Into Extinction thefederalist.com
News Source
EXCERPT:

It is inarguable that the war in Iran is a massive drag on Donald Trump’s numbers, as well as those of the Republican Party heading into November. This is largely driven by consistently high gas prices, which also drive up the price of everything else.

Trump obviously knows this, which is why he’s been searching for an off-ramp for months. He knows he was elected to get gas prices down and the economy in shape (which he did until the war jammed up the gears).

But a major problem for Trump’s presidency right now is that nearly everyone outside his inner circle pushing for this war — and this includes the entirety of so-called conservative pundits who never found a war they weren’t willing to make others fight and pay for — also hates Trump (and especially J.D. Vance) and sees the war’s negative effect on his popularity as a secondary benefit of the war they’ve been salivating over for decades. To them, his declining numbers are a feature, not a bug.

With the Iran war, the NeverTrump neocons have gotten everything they ever dreamed of — war (which they love), and a massive political quagmire for Trump that threatens to consume the rest of his presidency and destroy any future political chances of J.D. Vance and the entire MAGA/America First movement.

UK slows AI data center roll-out over energy crunch — RT World News www.rt.com

EXCERPT:

The British energy regulator plans to stop firms from reserving electricity capacity for “speculative” projects

British energy regulator Ofgem on Wednesday proposed fees and stricter rules for AI data center developers to cull “unviable, stalled or speculative projects” that are taking up scarce grid capacity amid skyrocketing electricity demand.

It comes as the UK moves to grow its cloud computing and artificial intelligence industries but grapples with a sharp spike in grid connection requests – which Ofgem says have more than tripled in less than a year.

The amount of electricity capacity being sought by firms wanting to plug into the UK’s grid spiked from 41 gigawatts to 125 gigawatts between November 2024 and June 2025, driven largely by demand from data center projects, the regulator said in a press release on Wednesday.

The figure is nearly triple the UK’s 2025 peak electricity demand of around 46 gigawatts.

Under the proposed rules, developers would have to pay a refundable fee of between £237,500 and £712,500 ($316,000 to $947,000) per megawatt of electricity, Ofgem said. The fee would be forfeited if a project exits the grid connection queue before reaching energization.

The measure is expected to “tackle unviable, stalled and speculative projects,” according to the regulator.

In March, the UK government announced reforms aimed at clearing speculative grid connection requests, which it said more than quadrupled in the six months prior.

The reforms come as Brits face an ongoing energy price crunch; electricity and gas prices more than doubled in the UK in 2022 following the escalation of the Ukraine conflict, when most European nations imposed sanctions on Russia and began phasing out cheap Russian gas supplies for more expensive alternatives. According to Ofgem, this year’s average household energy bill is expected to be around £1,862, almost 50% higher than in 2021.

While the Western restrictions had a detrimental impact on the Russian economy, it has adapted to them and learned to “minimize their effects,” according to Moscow. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has warned that “sanctions are a double-edged sword” and hurt both Russia and the countries that impose them.

John Thune Isn’t Bowing to Trump’s Pressure: ‘Show Me How This Ends’ time.com

“If I thought there was a path to getting a result, I’m all for it,” Thune told reporters this week.

The Senate is racing toward an August recess with a packed to-do list that seems doable: a sanctions bill targeting Russia, a stopgap funding measure to keep the government open through Election Day, movement on a catch-all reconciliation bill, and a bunch of nominees, including one that on Wednesday seemed to inch closer to giving Trump an up-or-down on his imperiled pick for Attorney General. But Trump says the upper chamber should not leave town until it gives him the SAVE America Act, his voting bill. He also wants the Senate to change its threshold for moving most legislation from 60 votes to 51 votes, ending the delay machine of the filibuster.

“John Thune should not allow the United States Senate to ‘leave town’ until it passes The Save America Act or, far better still, TERMINATES THE FILIBUSTER, where Republicans can then quickly pass everything they ever dreamed of, including a full and deep throated SAVE AMERICA ACT, the Budget, and the ever looming Debt Ceiling disaster, 1929!” the President wrote on his social media platform. “The Dumocrats will do it on day one, and can’t believe how lucky they got with this Senate leadership.”

Five years later, amidst increased pressure from the Trump administration and the election of a new Mexican president, we asked Andrew to revisit his arguments…

Has formalizing militarization in the Constitution changed anything in practice? The constitutional change locks in what was already happening on the ground, but also goes a little further. It’s right to note the transition from de facto to legal and formal military control. The National Guard is also under the control of the Secretariat of Defense, which is headed by an active-duty general. Guardia officers and troops are even educated in army universities.

The consequence of fully militarized federal-level policing means that future post-Sheinbaum governments will have very few — if any — opportunities to create alternative policing institutions. The constitutional change has locked Mexico into a path of militarization that frankly is much deeper than other large democracies in the region. However, it remains an open question if the Guardia can be retrained and repurposed. Though the Guardia is in the Secretariat of Defense’s educational system, attending the same schools, it could very well be that their curriculum is more police-like, or perhaps even gendarmerie-like, than soldier-like. That would be one significant step away from relying on soldiers and marines for public security, and even then, it would remain to be seen how a force educated in the military system, instructed and

The state of the AI revolution can be confusing. At times, it can seem as if the latest artificial intelligence models are showing huge capability increases. One example is when two OpenAI models broke out of the lab, accessed the internet, and broke into another AI company. Or, as a Wall Street Journal headline put it, “The Day the Bots Broke Loose.”

But then you might come across another headline from the Wall Street Journal: “Big Companies Are Starting to Hire Again, Defying Predictions of AI Wipeout.” And from that piece:

The push to expand head count, at least modestly, is a reversal from the prevailing corporate messaging during much of the AI era. Major employers largely held back on adding people due to economic uncertainties or a belief that artificial intelligence could shoulder more tasks on the job. But some executives say the costs and limitations of AI now demand that more people be added; others want to hire people back following layoffs.

Iran releases sick video on ‘where and how’ to kill Melania Trump | World | News www.express.co.uk

A horrifying video released in Iran has sparked outrage after the clip detailed “how and where” to kill First Lady Melania Trump. In the footage, a narrator speaking Farsi discusses “plots” while images show Mr and Mrs Trump on a map, detailing their code names and the precautions the Secret Service takes to secure the streets along their motorcades.

The narrator claims that “the documents used in this video are the result of extracting information from several anonymous security networks and satellite images”. They also propose a potential poisoning plot that could be executed by “freedom fighters” with access to locations the First Lady frequently attends.

The footage implies that Mrs Trump’s “love of fashion” reflects her vulnerability, even suggesting potential bribery schemes tied to her shopping patterns.

Billboards have also appeared on bridges and structures throughout Tehran, Iran, calling for the deaths of Mr Trump and his family members. One featured images of his children, Ivanka and Barron, alongside his wife.

All three were shown with their eyes closed, with the word “KILLED” in red across the top. It added: “Hey, Terrorist! Get ready to die.”

Meet The Republicans Who Sided With Anthony Fauci To Shut Down The Country dailycaller.com

Republican Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul released Dr. Anthony Fauci’s personal diary Sunday, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the first Trump administration officials who aligned with Fauci as the country shut down during COVID-19.

The diary entries portray an administration divided over lockdowns, school closures and messaging, with several Republican officials backing the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director’s efforts to maintain sweeping public health restrictions while sidelining dissenting voices. One of the officials who backed the public health bureaucrat was Hope Hicks, a counselor to the president and former White House communications director, whom Fauci described as “very nice” after their first meeting in March 2020.

Fauci soon wrote that Hicks appeared to view him as a “future ally” after seeming uncomfortable with Trump’s desire for the COVID-19 team to hold two press briefings a day to boost morale and the economy through public transparency.
