The most populous county in Arizona confirmed this week that it will likely take at least 11 to 13 days to count all of the ballot cast in next month’s presidential election.

According to county election officials, heavy turnout during this cycle put additional stress on the system, resulting in the likelihood for longer-than-usual tabulation delays.

“We do expect that it will take between 10 and 13 days to complete tabulation of all of the ballots that come in, but we ask for the community’s patience,” Liewer said. “We want to make sure that this is a secure process, but we also want to make sure that it is an accurate process.”

The higher interest in the 2024 election and the fact that the ballot is two pages — an average of 79 contests per ballot — is exactly why officials are encouraging people to vote early, Maricopa County Supervisor Bill Gates said.

More than 2.1 million votes are expected this year and so far, 400,000 people have cast their ballots in Maricopa County.

“We are seeing a little bit of a lag of where we were in 2020 but the last few days we’ve actually seen an uptick in turnout,” Scott Jarrett, Maricopa County elections director, said. “So I am expecting that we will start approaching very close to those 2020 numbers.”

Courts in Michigan and North Carolina on Monday rejected separate lawsuits from the Republican National Committee that sought to ensure only individuals who have actually stepped foot in the states can participate in elections there.

The lawsuits, both brought in part by the RNC, took “issue with how the states apply the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA), which requires states to allow certain overseas citizens … to register and vote absentee,” as The Federalist previously reported. The lawsuits alleged that election officials in the states are violating their respective constitutions by opening the door for individuals who have never resided in these states to vote there.

In the Michigan case, plaintiffs, including the RNC and the state GOP, specifically challenged what they alleged to be “unlawful instruction” from Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson’s Election Officials Manual which says that “a United States citizen who has never resided in the United States but who has a parent, legal guardian, or spouse who was last domiciled in Michigan” to vote in the state “as long as the citizen has not registered or voted in another state.”

In her ruling on this case, Michigan Court of Claims Judge Sima Patel essentially argued that plaintiffs filed the suit too late. Patel sided with, as she referred to them, the already “busy” election official defendants, suggesting they should not be expected to “create an entirely new process” to separate ballots “issued to members of the subject group who have
never resided in Michigan and remove them before tabulation” in the upcoming election.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas along with other members of the Biden-Harris administration for failing to respond to inquiries from state officials seeking to determine the citizenship status of people registered to vote.

On October 7, Attorney General Paxton sent a letter demanding that the federal government fulfill its legal obligations by verifying the citizenship status of people who may be illegally registered to vote in Texas by October 19. Attached was a list of approximately 450,000 voters whose citizenship status has never been checked because they registered without a State of Texas-issued driver’s license or identification card. Federal law requires the federal government to provide that information and Attorney General Paxton’s letter formally triggered those obligations. While the majority of the voters on the list are likely citizens who are eligible to vote, Texans have no way of knowing whether or not any of the voters on the list are noncitizens who are ineligible to vote without additional information.

Madison – In what can only be described as “stupefying” by defying any sense of sensibility, thousands of personal and first-hand reports from electors across the State of Wisconsin have surfaced from the first day of Early In-Person Voting when the Wisconsin Election Commission’s (WEC) “electronic voting systems” experienced a meltdown that resulted in thousands of electors across Wisconsin being turned away or told to leave to come back another day to vote.

Personal and first-hand accounts from electors across the State of Wisconsin began to surface by mid-morning on October 22nd of extremely long lines (for hours), WisVote “system glitches”, “bandwidth shortcomings”, “issues with WEC”, “elector verification challenges”, long delays in the printing of “labels” for absentee ballots, unanswered questions and being denied the constitutional and legal right to vote.

WBAY reported: “Voters see long lines in Northeast Wisconsin on first day of early voting.”

“Due to higher-than-expected turnout for the first day of in-person absentee voting, the WisVote system that some clerks use experienced a period of slowness that has now been resolved. Clerks use WisVote to print a label that can be placed on the outside of in-person absentee certificate envelopes.

The same information can be affixed on the outside of the envelope manually with a pen.

Today’s system lag was purely related to demands on the WisVote system due to high turnout.

This should not prevent any voter’s ability to vote in-person absentee today. WEC staff worked quickly to increase system capacity to ensure that clerks can continue to facilitate in-person absentee voting efficiently.”
