Abortion Watch

As the use of the mifepristone chemical abortion pill continues to rise in the U.S., concerns are growing that residue from the powerful drug as well as the remains of aborted babies are contaminating the water supply and may be contributing to fertility problems, as well as other health concerns.

Recently released research by Liberty Counsel Action (LCA) pointed out that when mifepristone was originally approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2000, it was predicted that the impact of the drug on the environment would be minimal, and therefore “no further study was completed.” As LCA noted, since mothers who take the abortion pill are instructed to deliver their dead baby into their toilet at home, the assessment “failed to address the issue of how the fetal remains would be disposed of, essentially ignoring the reality that in many cases, said remains would enter U.S. water systems in violation of various fetal disposal and medical waste laws.”

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has charged eight midwives with practicing medicine without a license. The eight people are alleged to have run an abortion ring. Paxton referred to the group as “a cabal of abortion-loving radicals” who “endangered the very people they pretended to help.”

The arrests came from an investigation into Maria Margarita Rojas, 49, who was the first to be charged under Texas’ SCOTUS-affirmed law, the Texas Human Life Protection Act. The eight arrested have not been charged, yet, with performing an abortion like Rojas has, though there is reason to believe that might be forthcoming.

Eight people linked to a Houston-area midwife accused of allegedly performing illegal abortions have been arrested and indicted for practicing medicine without a license, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced Wednesday.

In a statement shared online, Paxton described the group as “a cabal of abortion-loving radicals” who “endangered the very people they pretended to help.”

The arrests are the latest development in an investigation into Maria Margarita Rojas, 49,who earlier in 2025 became the first to be charged under the Texas Human Life Protection Act.

Rojas faces 15 felony counts, including three for performing an abortion and 12 for practicing medicine without a license. Her case is ongoing.

Paxton said the eight new defendants were working under Rojas at her clinics in Waller, Cypress, Spring, and Katy.

Those charged were identified as Yaimara Hernandez Alvarez, Alina Valeron Leon, Dalia Coromoto Yanez, Yhonder Lebrun Acosta, Liunet Grandales Estrada, Gerardo Otero Aguero, Sabiel Bosch Gongora, and Jose Manuel Cendan Ley.

President Donald Trump’s administration appears ready to “follow the law” when the FDA continues to approve the abortion pill for over-the-counter-use. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt claimed the reason the FDA was not changing the drug’s status was because “they are simply following the law.” The decision is causing some to doubt President Trump’s true opposition to abortion.

“It’s not an endorsement of this drug by any means. They are just simply following the law,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said of the FDA on Friday.

I don’t buy this “simply following the law” excuse. Neither do key anti-abortion legislators, including Sens. Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA), who rightly denounced the approval as a “betrayal” of the anti-abortion community that got President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance elected.

And neither does Kelsey Pritchard, political director of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America.

“‘Powerless’ is not a word that someone uses to describe this administration when they face trouble,” Pritchard told me by phone. “They’re known for bucking the status quo. They’re known for doing what they need to do to reverse problems.”

Oddly, the FDA issued the approval before it completed its own safety review of the drug, which began in mid-September. An Ethics and Public Policy Center study, showing 11% of users faced “serious adverse events,” prompted Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to direct FDA Commissioner Martin Makary to review “the latest data.” However, the FDA prematurely issued the approval without the results.

The state of New Jersey continues to push for access to abortion without limits – even beyond its state border.

The New Jersey legislature has passed a bill issuing a “reproductive health travel advisory” for New Jersey women seeking abortions in other states.

The “New Jersey Reproductive Health Travel Advisory” was warranted, according to the text of the bill, due to “a need to create an advisory that will inform New Jersey residents of the extent to which states within the United States limit reproductive health care services so that they may make informed travel decisions while pregnant.”

The proposed advisory came after much debate, passing the state Senate in October 2024 and the state House June 30 of this year. New Governor Phil Murphy had not signed the bill as of press time.

It requires the New Jersey Department of State to establish the travel advisory and use color coding for abortion access in other states, urging different levels of “caution” over travel to each state depending on the abortion regulation there.

The bill describes the caution colors:

(1) “Blue: Exercise normal caution,” which signifies that pregnant individuals have access to all forms of reproductive medical care without fear of civil or criminal prosecution;

(2) “Yellow: Exercise increased caution,” which signifies that pregnant individuals have restricted access to reproductive medical care that could result in civil or criminal prosecution; and

(3)“Red: Reconsider travel,” which signifies that pregnant individuals have extremely restricted access to reproductive medical care that could result in an adverse medical outcome, pregnant individuals being subject to civil or criminal prosecution, and individuals seeking emergency reproductive medical care not being provided life-saving care due to state law.

Pope Leo XIV commended the Knights of Columbus on Monday for their unwavering commitment to pro-life causes, highlighting their efforts as a vital defense of the vulnerable unborn amid a culture that too often devalues innocent human life.

The pontiff’s remarks came during a private audience in the Apostolic Palace with the board of directors of the Knights of Columbus, a global Catholic fraternal organization boasting over 2.1 million members dedicated to charity, unity and the protection of life from conception to natural death.

The group was in Rome on pilgrimage for the Jubilee Year of Hope, where Pope Leo expressed profound appreciation for their support of Vatican restoration projects and local initiatives that embody Christian compassion.

From a pro-life standpoint, the Pope’s endorsement reinforces the Church’s unyielding opposition to abortion, affirming the Knights’ role as frontline warriors in building a civilization of life against the scourge of abortions that end countless preborn lives annually.

Her decision came after the office of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg failed to prosecute Rivers — despite the assault having been caught on video and her repeated confessions on social media.

On April 3, Craven Antao, who works with pro-life organization Live Action, and her husband were in New York filming interviews on the street when Rivers came over to talk.

At first, the interaction was cordial. Rivers agreed to be interviewed and complimented the couple. When the conversation turned to abortion, Rivers expressed support for Planned Parenthood and argued that a pregnant woman who doesn’t want to have a child, particularly if the father is not involved, should be able to abort her child. She suggested that women in such situations might end up neglecting or abusing their children.

Pro-life pregnancy centers expect an increase in appointments after President Donald Trump’s “One Big, Beautiful Bill” defunded Planned Parenthood facilities, a center director told The Daily Signal.

Trump’s spending bill instructed the federal government to end Medicaid payments for one year to abortion providers, such as Planned Parenthood, that received more than $800,000 from Medicaid in 2023. As a result, women are getting turned away by abortion facilities and are instead making appointments at privately funded pro-life pregnancy centers, which support them in carrying their babies to term, at no cost to the clients.

James Harden, president and CEO of New York pregnancy center network CompassCare, said he has “absolutely” seen an increase in appointments since the bill passed.

“We built a team in the Bronx, and they’re already fully booked,” Harden told The Daily Signal. “We’re triple-booking right now.”

The persecution of those who stand in the gap protecting innocent human life from abortion was evident in horrifying fashion last week. Charlie Kirk was a steadfast voice for the voiceless.

Sadly, persecution, in many forms, has long been practiced against those who speak the truth about abortion and its brutal and deadly impact on unborn babies and their mothers.

Three years ago the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) fired a shot across the bow of America’s pro-life OB/GYNs. They threatened to remove their certification, thus imperiling their livelihood if they didn’t tow the line.

Their crime? Disseminating “medical misinformation” about the dangers of abortion’s impact on mothers. The mere call for accurate statistical reports regarding abortion’s negative impact on women’s health could potentially land a doctor in the unemployment line.

Pro-Life advocates have cause to celebrate: Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion business in the United States and the world, has officially been stripped of Medicaid reimbursements under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

This victory has been years in the making. Congress passed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act earlier this year, making history as the first federal budget to cut off funding to Planned Parenthood. Lawmakers boldly declared that taxpayer dollars should never prop up the abortion industry.

Yet, almost immediately, a federal judge in Boston, appointed by former President Barack Obama, blocked that part of the law from taking effect. That ruling gave Planned Parenthood temporary cover to continue distributing millions of taxpayer dollars while its lawsuit went through the courts.

This week, that shield crumbled. The First Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously lifted the rulings, allowing the defunding measure to take immediate effect. Remarkably, all three judges on the panel were appointed by President Joe Biden, showing that even jurists handpicked by an abortion-friendly administration could not justify Planned Parenthood’s baseless claims.

While the pharmacy would maintain some information, the law “would prohibit the disclosure of the information to an individual or entity from another state.” Law enforcement could see the logs only with a subpoena.

The law has come under criticism from pro-life experts.

“California’s AB 260 seeks to shield abortion providers from accountability, even when their actions harm women and destroy innocent lives across state lines,” the California Family Council wrote in its analysis. “This dangerous law puts profit and ideology above the safety of children and families.”

With the enhanced Obamacare subsidies Democrats passed as part of their “Covid emergency” in 2021 set to expire on Dec. 31, congressional Republicans are considering what, if anything, to do about it. In a recent interview, House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said, “I don’t love the policy” of extending the subsidies, “but I understand the political realities and the realities of people on the ground.”

Respectfully, I don’t think he understands the political realities in the slightest. Apart from Johnson’s convenient case of amnesia — remember when Republicans said they wanted to repeal Obamacare rather than expand and extend it? — the speaker is ignoring one major issue. Extending the enhanced subsidies would 1) keep taxpayer dollars flowing to plans that fund abortion and 2) allow blue states to create “slush funds” for abortion tourism that undermine the protections that pro-life states, including Johnson’s home state of Louisiana, have worked diligently to enact.

A federal appeals court on Thursday blocked a lower court order mandating taxpayer funding for abortion giant Planned Parenthood.

A three-judge panel for U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, all appointed by former President Joe Biden (D), ultimately allowed a congressionally approved measure stripping Planned Parenthood of taxpayer dollars through Medicaid to go forward as litigation continues. The order stays two July preliminary injunctions issued by Obama-appointed U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani, which blocked the defunding measure from going into effect.

“Notwithstanding the contrary conclusion reached by the district court after its careful consideration of the matter, we conclude that defendants have met their burden to show their entitlement to a stay of the preliminary injunctions pending the disposition of their appeals of the same,” wrote Judges Gustavo Gelpí, Lara Montecalvo, and Seth Aframe.

“The motion is GRANTED. The July 21, 2025 preliminary injunction and the July 28, 2025 preliminary injunction are hereby stayed pending disposition of the respective appeals,” they continued.

Republicans passed a measure in this summer’s “Big, Beautiful Bill,” stripping Planned Parenthood of taxpayer funding through Medicaid for one year. Defunding abortion providers through the reconciliation process allowed the Senate to bypass the critical 60-vote threshold for a simple majority vote, instead capitalizing on Republicans’ overall trifecta. While federal funding for abortions is barred by the Hyde Amendment — except in cases of rape, incest, or life of the mother — pro-life advocates argue no federal funds should be used to prop up any organization that performs abortions.

But even worse is that the district court simply ducked the glaring constitutional issues in this case, after waiting five years and not even holding a hearing. Thus this day of joy becomes also a day that calls us to choose — how and for whom we shall live.”

The liturgy for this high feast day includes the Scripture passage about when Mary prays her “Magnificat,” which the Church continues to pray daily even now, Pope Leo noted.
