The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) today notified Middle States Commission on Higher Education (the Commission) that its member institution, Columbia University, is in violation of federal antidiscrimination laws and therefore fails to meet the standards for accreditation set by the Commission. Pursuant to President Trump’s Executive Order, Reforming Accreditation to Strengthen Higher Education, the Department has an obligation to promptly provide accreditors with any noncompliance findings related to member institutions.

The Commission’s “Standards for Accreditation and Requirements of Affiliation” state that “a candidate or accredited institution possesses or demonstrates … compliance with all applicable government laws and regulations.” In light of OCR’s determination, Columbia University no longer appears to meet the Commission’s accreditation standards.

“After Hamas’ October 7, 2023, terror attack on Israel, Columbia University’s leadership acted with deliberate indifference towards the harassment of Jewish students on its campus. This is not only immoral, but also unlawful. Accreditors have an enormous public responsibility as gatekeepers of federal student aid. They determine which institutions are eligible for federal student loans and Pell Grants. The statement sheds new light on a White House social media post Tuesday that said the family “could be deported by tonight.”

In this case, confiscating fewer illegal drugs is a good thing because it means less is making it across the border, not that law enforcement is slacking.

Since Trump came to office and began to tighten immigration rules and increasing border security, the bad guys in Mexico have had a much harder time of illegally smuggling dangerous fentanyl over the border. The Boulder, Colorado terror attack suspect planned on commiting a mass shooting over the weekend, however, he was stopped from obtaining a firearm due to his immigration status in the United States.

Illegal immigrant Mohamed Sabry Soliman, 45, who admitted he was planning to carry out the attack a year in advance, also told detectives that he was planning to make the attack a mass shooting. He had even taken a concealed-carry course to learn how to handle a firearm, according to the New York Post.

However, his attempt to purchase a gun was thwarted due to his status in the country illegally after the expiry of his visa, Boulder Judicial District Attorney Michael Dougherty said. Soliman, who is facing a total of 624 years behind bars, appeared in court on Monday afternoon, where he said he understood the orders placed against him involving the 12 victims. It was initially reported that there were eight people injured in the attack before four others came forward with injuries.

Soliman is facing 16 counts of attempted murder, which could result in a prison sentence of up to 384 years if convicted. He also faces 48 years for deploying two Molotov cocktails and another 192 years for allegedly attempting to use 16 additional incendiary devices found nearby. He has also been hit with federal hate crime charges.
