The chief irony of Chief Justice John Roberts’ tenure at the Supreme Court is that the man so doggedly devoted to defending the judiciary has done so much to undermine it. In so doing, he has threatened not only the court’s legitimacy but the republic itself.

His latest such act wasn’t an abomination of a ruling on the level of Obamacare, the census citizenship question, or DACA; a faulty probe into a devastating leak; or a defense of the indefensible censorship-industrial complex. One of the greatest political books I’ve ever read was written almost thirty years ago by the late, great Robert Bork, the brilliant jurist who was kept off the of the Supreme Court in 1987 by a couple of lying scumbag United States Senators named Ted Kennedy and Joe Biden. Yeah, that’s a painful reminder that the younger, semi-coherent (he was always a little off) Biden was just as bad for America as the drooling spaz who spent the last four years autopenning the country into oblivion.

The book was titled “Slouching Towards Gomorrah: Modern Liberalism and American Decline.” As far as prophetic political tomes written in my adult lifetime go, it was surpassed only by Mark Steyn’s “America Alone: The End of the World As We Know It.”

The thing that stuck with me the most when I read “Slouching Towards Gomorrah” shortly after it was published was Bork’s warning about the growing, dangerous role that liberal activist judges would play in wreaking havoc here in the United States. There were already signs of that when the book was published in the late ’90s. However, what we’re dealing with today makes Bork look like the second coming of Nostradamus.

We’ve been subjected to the tawdry spectacle of activist judges doing whatever they wish with the law in order to keep Donald Trump from returning to the presidency. Since that didn’t work and he’s once again President Trump, the hyperactive, extrajudicial loons are throwing tantrums in an effort to thwart his agenda.

Elon Musk’s role overseeing the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is likely a violation of the U.S. Constitution’s appointments clause, a federal judge wrote Tuesday.

Theodore Chuang, a judge in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, wrote in an opinion there is more than enough evidence — mostly from statements made by Musk and Donald Trump — that shows the world’s richest man is really acting as the head of DOGE despite the government’s claim he is merely a “special advisor to the president.”

Chuang issued the opinion in a case brought against Musk and DOGE by unnamed workers at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The judge also wrote that the actions Musk has taken in that role, like shutting down USAID — which Musk said he threw into the “wood chipper” — are therefore likely unconstitutional, too.

A federal judge appointed by former President Barack Obama ruled Tuesday evening to block the Trump administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from terminating $20 billion in grants doled out through a Biden-era program.

Federal D.C. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan ruled that the EPA could not currently revoke money that the agency parked in accounts at Citibank in the final days of the Biden administration. The judge wrote that the Trump EPA “gave no legal justification for the termination” of the agreements with the recipients while the administration “vaguely” outlined its initial concerns with the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF).

While Chutkan did temporarily block EPA from moving forward with its push to claw back the funds, she noted in her filing that the ruling does not permanently prevent the EPA from recovering the money.

Chief Justice John Roberts injected himself into matters not directly in front of his court in defense of a district judge being threatened with impeachment for ruling against President Trump’s deportation operation decisions. Specifically, the district court judge ruled that a planeload of Venezuelan convicted felons should be immediately returned.

After Roberts’ missive, Representative Brandon Gill (R-TX) introduced articles of impeachment against that same federal judge, U.S. District Court Judge James Boesberg. The American Civil Liberties Union is arguing the Trump administration violated the judge’s order by not bringing back flights traveling to Honduras and El Salvador on Saturday.

Boasberg on Monday called on attorneys from the Justice Department to provide detailed information on the deportation flights over the weekend.

The U.S. House of Representatives must vote to impeach federal officials. Trump was impeached twice by the House during his first term in office.

The Senate then holds a trial, after which at least two-thirds of the lawmakers in that chamber must vote to remove the federal official from office. The upper chamber didn’t take that step during Trump’s first term and he was acquitted twice.

“The House has initiated impeachment proceedings more than 60 times; roughly a third of all proceedings have led to full impeachments,” according to a post by the Office of the Historian. “Just eight individuals—all federal judges—have been convicted and removed from office by the Senate.”
