Biden’s last-minute cigarette ban could kill jobs and welcome crime– www.washingtonexaminer.com

President Joe Biden is seeking to regulate nicotine levels in cigarettes in a last-ditch attempt to lower national smoking rates, yet opponents of the move say it will have catastrophic, downstream effects on the economy and crime.

If adopted, his Food and Drug Administration rule would set a new maximum nicotine level for cigarettes, effectively banning virtually all cigarettes currently available for commercial purchase in the United States.

Biden’s Office of Management and Budget concluded a review of the proposed rule, the text of which has not been published, on Jan. 3. The rule must still enter a public comment period before it can be finalized, but, based on the typical comment period window of 30-90 days, it would fall to President-elect Donald Trump to implement the rule.

Trump transition officials declined to comment on Biden’s proposed rule, but the Trump-era FDA first began studying lowering nicotine levels in cigarettes back in 2018.

A former Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) employee is privately helping Senate Democrats solicit hostile testimony about her former boss, Pete Hegseth, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to be the country’s next defense secretary.

The former employee, Kat Dugan, worked at CVA for eight months while Hegseth served as CEO of the organization, and has sent messages to former CVA colleagues urging them to contact the Senate Armed Services Committee and assuring them they can do so anonymously. She has also provided closed-door testimony to the committee, according to correspondence obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

Dugan, formerly Kathleen Volandt, received a poor performance review in 2014 when she was serving as CVA’s North Carolina state director. Shortly thereafter, she filed for short-term disability, then long-term disability, and ultimately tendered her resignation in December 2014. Shawn Pattison, who served as CVA’s national field director at the time, told the Free Beacon that Dugan “consistently fell short of performance expectations.” A copy of her performance review reviewed by the Free Beacon substantiates that assessment.

There is no logical reason as to why the United States of America should not rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. Unless, one is worried about hurting the feelings of Mexican officials, which would be pretty pathetic, as these people don’t give a crap about the feelings of Americans.

Trump announced that he plans to name the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and it’s unclear why it took this long for a POTUS to finally do that.

According to Fox 5:

“Pretty soon, we’re going to change because we do most of the work there, and it’s ours. We’re going to be changing. Sort of the opposite of Biden, where he’s closing everything up, essentially getting rid of $50 to $60 trillion worth of assets. We’re going to be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, which has a beautiful ring that covers a lot of territory. The Gulf of America. What a beautiful name. And it’s appropriate,” he said.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-AR) is facing a potentially tough battle this Friday, January 3, 2025 when the new House votes for next session’s speaker. Facing a number of critics, Johnson’s re-election has been in doubt, but now the Speaker has an official endorsement from President-elect Trump.

The President said, “Speaker Mike Johnson is a good, hard working, religious man. He will do the right thing, and we will continue to WIN. Mike has my Complete & Total Endorsement. MAGA!!!”

President Trump made a surprising endorsement on Monday for House Speaker Mike Johnson to be reelected as Speaker as he faces challenges from other GOP lawmakers.

“Speaker Mike Johnson is a good, hard working, religious man. He will do the right thing, and we will continue to WIN. Mike has my Complete & Total Endorsement. MAGA!!!” Trump said after touting his own accomplishments on the campaign trail– no thanks to Mike Johnson.

Trump: We are the Party of COMMON SENSE, a primary reason that we WON, in a landslide, the magnificent and historic Presidential Election of 2024. ALL SEVEN SWING STATES, 312 ELECTORAL COLLEGE VOTES, AND THE POPULAR VOTE BY MILLIONS OF VOTERS (Despite large scale voter fraud taking place in numerous states, including California, where votes are ridiculously still being counted, or under review!), ALL WON WITH EASE, CALM, & PROFESSIONALISM. Republicans are being praised for having run a “legendary” campaign! Democrats are being excoriated for their effort, having wasted 2.5 Billion Dollars, much of it unaccounted for, with some being used to illegally buy endorsements ($11,000,000 to Beyoncé, who never even sang a song, $2,000,000 to Oprah for doing next to nothing, and even $500,000 to Reverend AL, a professional con man and instigator, who agreed to “interview” their “star spangled” candidates, Kamala and Joe). We ran a flawless campaign, having spent FAR LESS, with lots of money left over. They ran a very expensive “sinking ship,” embracing DOJ & FBI WEAPONIZATION against their political opponent, ME. BUT IT DIDN’T WORK, IT WAS A DISASTER!!! LETS NOT BLOW THIS GREAT OPPORTUNITY WHICH WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN. The American people need IMMEDIATE relief from all of the destructive policies of the last Administration. Speaker Mike Johnson is a good, hard working, religious man. He will do the right thing, and we will continue to WIN. Mike has my Complete & Total Endorsement. MAGA!!!

Trump Promises to Pursue Executions After Biden Commutes Most of Federal Death Row– townhall.com

President-elect Donald Trump had a Christmas Day message to those granted clemency by outgoing President Joe Biden— telling them to “go to Hell.” Reigniting his tough-on-crime stance, Trump vowed to reinstate and actively pursue federal executions once he assumes office in less than a month in response to Biden’s decision to commute the sentences of most inmates on federal death row. Trump’s promise signals a return to stricter law-and-order policies, emphasizing accountability and a commitment to reversing what he describes as Biden’s leniency toward the nation’s most dangerous offenders.

One of the main agenda items Trump plans to pursue is the use of the death penalty, promising to go after “rapists, murderers, and monsters.” He refused to “wish a Merry Christmas to those lucky souls.”

Several Republican U.S. senators said on Sunday they would back President-elect Donald Trump’s choice of Kash Patel to head the FBI, an early show of support for a loyalist who has called for the bureau to be purged of those who oppose Trump’s agenda.

Patel, nominated by Trump on Saturday, also has advocated for a campaign of retribution against Trump’s perceived enemies.

Patel, 44, could face a challenging confirmation process with the U.S. Senate. During Trump’s first term, Patel, who advised both the director of national intelligence and the defense secretary, drew animosity from some more experienced national security officials, who saw him as volatile and too eager to please the then-president.

While some Democrats on Sunday voiced concerns that the law enforcement agency would become politicized and a tool for Trump to pursue adversaries under Patel, several senior Republican senators praised Trump’s pick.

On Sunday, Trump announced his nomination of Chronister with a glowing endorsement:

I am pleased to nominate Sheriff Chad Chronister for Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). For over 32 years, Sheriff Chad Chronister has served the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, and received countless commendations and awards for keeping his community SAFE.

President-elect Donald Trump will come into office next year with four extra slots to fill on the federal bench, thanks to a deal Senate Republicans struck with Democrats.

Republicans agreed to relent on their procedural warfare waged in recent days in an attempt to thwart the confirmation of President Joe Biden’s judicial nominees to lifetime appointments in his final weeks in office.

In exchange for the GOP allowing lower-level district court nominees to receive quicker votes, Senate Democrats will not move forward with confirming four higher-level circuit court picks and saving the positions for Trump to fill.

Both sides spun the arrangement as a win-win:

After Matt Gaetz announced he was removing his name from consideration for Attorney General nomination, President Trump quickly announced his replacement, Pam Bondi, and many are suggesting that was the intention from the start.  Did Trump open with the less palatable Gaetz to make it easier to get the more effective Bondi confirmed? After all, Pam Bondi was the former Attorney General for Florida, and she built a reputation as being a highly effective prosecutor.

Trump said of the selection, “I am proud to announce former Attorney General of the Great State of Florida, Pam Bondi, as our next Attorney General of the United States. Pam was a prosecutor for nearly 20 years, where she was very tough on Violent Criminals, and made the streets safe for Florida Families. Then, as Florida’s first female Attorney General, she worked to stop the trafficking of deadly drugs, and reduce the tragedy of Fentanyl Overdose Deaths, which have destroyed many families across our Country.”

Trump wasn’t caught off-guard by Gaetz’s withdrawal, naming the nominee to replace him just hours later, which Matt covered:

Hours after Matt Gaetz took his name out of consideration for Attorney General, President Trump announced his new pick for the position.

“I am proud to announce former Attorney General of the Great State of Florida, Pam Bondi, as our next Attorney General of the United States,” Trump announced in a post on Truth Social. “Pam was a prosecutor for nearly 20 years, where she was very tough on Violent Criminals, and made the streets safe for Florida Families. Then, as Florida’s first female Attorney General, she worked to stop the trafficking of deadly drugs, and reduce the tragedy of Fentanyl Overdose Deaths, which have destroyed many families across our Country.”

Pam Bondi is an absolutely brilliant choice for attorney general. Her experience as Florida’s AG makes her highly qualified to take over the Department of Justice and get rid of the Merrick Garland Swamp rot that is infesting it. She’s very no-nonsense and knows how to throw a legal punch. The open borders people are already dyspeptic. My Townhall colleague Sarah Arnold laid out why Bondi has the lefties melting down here. This is from her post:

Sarah has some more choice video in the article, including a clip of Bondi taking a shot at Dem beta male Mark Cuban.

Given Pam Bondi’s close personal and professional relationship with Donald Trump, why wasn’t she his first choice? Since we’re having fun with the 4-D chess idea, we have to wonder if the plan always was to eventually have her be the nominee. Perhaps nominating Gaetz first was merely a way to get the Dems so worked up that they’d be more amenable to Bondi once he bowed out.

That’s how this game works, isn’t it?

Again, this is just a lot of spitballin’ here. Like I said at the top, we’re just having some quick fun.

“But Kruiser,” some of you are saying, “why would Gaetz resign from Congress if that was the plan?”

I hear that there will be an open Senate seat in Florida once Trump’s next Secretary of State is confirmed.

U.S. Senators Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) have both vowed to support all of President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet nominees and called for confirmation hearings to be scheduled immediately.

“A majority of voters decided that the America First agenda championed by Donald Trump and J.D. Vance is a playbook for American greatness. As a part of that playbook, President Trump has already put together a strong, very strong list of qualified Cabinet members,” Tuberville, who was a highly successful college football coach before running for office, told his colleagues on the Senate floor Wednesday.

“At defense, he’s tapped Pete Hegseth, a veteran who served two tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, is an Ivy League educated businessman background. That’s what we need in the Pentagon right now to restore order in our finances. At HHS, he’s assigned Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., who has single-handedly brought attention to the many public health crises facing Americans. He’s Harvard educated, has authored multiple books, and has a four-decade career in public health and environmental law,” he continued.

After authorizing the use of long-range, American-made ATACMS missiles to take out targets in Russia, the Biden-Harris administration has authorized land mines for use in Ukraine. These antipersonnel mines are intended to aid Ukraine in their defense against attacker Russia, but there has been substantial criticism levied as a result.

The Ottawa Convention, an international treaty against the use of landmines, has been signed by 164 countries. Mines deployed in Vietnam and other areas have remained active for decades after the end of a conflict, rendering the land unusable. Ukraine wanted them anyway in an effort to fend off Russia, which invaded their neighbor in February 2022.

In reaction to the authorization of US ATACMS missiles, Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that retaliations against Ukraine and the US could be forthcoming as a result. The Biden-Harris administration has been backing Ukraine since the beginning of hostilities and has spent billions in both aid and weapons. Russia is widely perceived to be winning the conflict.

Matt Gaetz news: House GOP reject releasing ethics report– www.ctvnews.ca

House Ethics Committee Republicans voted Wednesday against releasing the panel’s long-running investigation into U.S. president-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for attorney general, former Rep. Matt Gaetz, the top Democrat on the panel said.

The outcome, however, is only a temporary reprieve for Gaetz, who faces allegations of sexual misconduct, as he works to personally secure his embattled nomination to be the nation’s top law enforcement official.

The House panel expects to meet again Dec. 5 to reconsider releasing its findings.

“There was no consensus on this issue,” said Rep. Susan Wild of Pennsylvania, the panel’s ranking Democrat, who said the vote fell along party lines on the evenly split committee.

With a clear understanding of the reason for the sudden revival of a bill called the PRESS Act, President Donald Trump posted “REPUBLICANS MUST KILL THIS BILL!”  The bill would “protect” the press from being spied on by the Federal government.  Critics believe the bill goes too far in protecting the press to the point of allowing it to commit unaccountable crimes.

Some of those actions include colluding with America’s enemies, political parties, or engaging in intentional slander to incite violence and economically destroy political opposition, as many already suspect the MSM is guilty of doing. Tom Cotton summed it up when he posted “The PRESS Act would shield journalists and leakers from consequences – even when their actions endanger American lives and security.”

President-elect Donald Trump directed congressional Republicans on Wednesday to block a bipartisan bill aimed at shielding journalists from government surveillance.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump shared a PBS News segment outlining the bipartisan bill’s intent and its current status in Congress. “REPUBLICANS MUST KILL THIS BILL!” Trump wrote.

The Protect Reporters from Exploitative State Spying (PRESS) Act, which passed the House earlier in 2024 with bipartisan backing, seeks to establish the first federal press shield law in the United States. Democratic Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin and Republican California Rep. Kevin Kiley, who co-sponsored the bill, hailed its passage in January.

“House passage of the PRESS Act in a unanimous vote moves America closer to establishing our first federal press shield law ever. The PRESS Act will greatly strengthen the meaning of the constitutional promise of press freedom,” Raskin said. “This awesome bipartisan vote at a time of party polarization underscores the binding power and universal appeal of freedom of the press as a leading constitutional principle. This is a significant victory for the people and our First Amendment values.”

Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) suggested that Senate Republicans could call the witnesses involved in former Rep. Matt Gaetz’s sexual misconduct case if the House Ethics Committee does not release its report.

Gaetz is facing an uphill battle to be confirmed as President-elect Donald Trump’s attorney general, and his past alleged misconduct has been the main catalyst for the complications in his appointment.

The former congressman has been connected with a sex trafficking investigation and an allegation that he had sex with a 17-year-old girl. The House report is expected to shed light on Gaetz’s involvement.

Cornyn told the Wall Street Journal that he “absolutely” supported a full background check into Trump’s nominees but that they did not need to depend on the committee to release its report because they “roughly” know who the witnesses are and can call them to testify before the Judiciary Committee.

“In order to do our job, we need to get access to all the information, but also to protect the president against any surprises that might damage his administration,” Cornyn said.

US Will Send Ukraine at Least $275 Million in New Weapons in Push to Bolster Kyiv Before Trump – mililtary.com

Excerpt:

WASHINGTON — The Pentagon will send Ukraine at least $275 million in new weapons, U.S. officials said Tuesday, as the Biden administration rushes to do as much as it can to help Kyiv fight back against Russia in the remaining two months before President-elect Donald Trump takes office.

The latest tranche of weapons comes as worries grow about an escalation in the conflict, with both sides pushing to gain any advantage that they can exploit if Trump demands a quick end to the war — as he has vowed to do.

In rapid succession this week, President Joe Biden gave Ukraine the authority to fire longer-range missiles deeper into Russia and then Russian President Vladimir Putin formally lowered the threshold for using nuclear weapons.

U.S. officials contend that Russia’s change in nuclear doctrine was expected, but Moscow is warning that Ukraine’s new use of the Army Tactical Missile System, known as ATACMS, inside Russia on Tuesday could trigger a strong response.

A number of U.S. Senate Republicans are furious after some of their colleagues, including President-elect JD Vance, failed to show up to block last-minute appeals court judicial confirmation votes, allowing several Biden nominees to slip through. One nominee, a far left activist named Magistrate Judge Embry Kidd, would not have been confirmed if all Republicans had showed up to vote no.

Ron DeSantis said of the debacle, “This leftist judge would have been voted down and the seat on the important 11th circuit would have been filled by Donald Trump next year had Republicans showed up. Now, the leftist judge will have a lifetime appointment and the people of FL, AL and GA will suffer the consequences.”

Democrats Push Through Biden’s Leftist Judicial Nominees After Multiple Republican Senators Fail to Show Up– www.westernjournal.com

Outgoing President Joe Biden might have only two months left in his term, but his legacy will last for decades thanks to Republicans who failed to show up this week to oppose Biden judicial nominees.

Big-name members of the GOP, including Vice President-elect J.D. Vance and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio were absent on Monday as Democratic senators approved more than a dozen Biden appointments to lifetime positions on the federal bench.

Republicans in the Senate who actually showed up for the fight were furious. And so was President-elect Donald Trump.

“If we don’t show up, we lose,” North Carolina Republican Sen. Thom Tillis said, according to The Hill.

“I don’t care what the reasons were. We have fewer than 15 scheduled legislative days. You have to show up. Period. End of story. There’s nothing more important.”

Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy, a man who’s known for an acid wit that cuts straight to the heart of an issue, described his level of frustration as “on a scale of 1 to 10, a 12.”

“Because a number of President Biden’s nominees, particularly at the courts of appeal, they think they’re qualified to be a federal judge if they’ve seen ‘My Cousin Vinny,’ and I don’t agree with them.

“Their performance in committee demonstrated that none of them were Oliver Wendell Scalia,” he said, combining the names of a pair of the late, great Justices Oliver Wendell Holmes and Antonin Scalia.

“They did horrible jobs in committee, and we had the votes to prevent them from being confirmed, but some of the folks on our side couldn’t be here, and it’s frustrating.”

Should Republican lawmakers be showing up for crucial votes no matter what else they have going on?

Vance had initially attempted to defend his absence by claiming that Republicans would have lost the votes anyway and that he was working on long-range issues, such as a search for a new FBI director when Trump takes office.

However, The Hill noted, at least one of the Biden nominees — Magistrate Judge Embry Kidd — would have been defeated if all Republicans had shown up, thanks to a “no” vote from independent Sen. Joe Manchin and the absence of Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman.

Kidd’s nomination had drawn criticism because, among other things, he’d failed to disclose two cases involving child sex abuse in which his lenient rulings had been overturned by a higher court, according to a Washington Examiner report in June.

Kidd was confirmed to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, which covers the Southeastern United States.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis published a scathing post on the social media platform X criticizing Republican senators for the development.

“No more Judges confirmed before Inauguration Day!” he wrote.

Vance was in the Capitol to vote within an hour of that post going public, according to the Washington Examiner.

But by then, the damage was done.

“We had some of these judges killed dead as Woodrow Wilson, and our vote wasn’t here,” Kennedy told the Washington Examiner.

“We had people not here to vote, and I’m not going to bubblewrap it. There’s no excuse for that. Our job is to be here and vote.”

Announcing his choice of Brendan Carr as chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on Sunday, President-elect Donald Trump described him as “a warrior for Free Speech,” which sounds good until you ask what Trump means by that. Carr, who has served as a Republican FCC commissioner since Trump appointed him during his first term in August 2017, believes that promoting freedom of speech requires curtailing liability protections for social media platforms and restricting their editorial discretion.

Carr’s agenda for “reining in Big Tech,” as described in the chapter that he contributed to the Heritage Foundation’s 2025 Mandate for Leadership, includes new FCC rules aimed at restricting the liability protection offered by Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. Carr also supports regulations that would “impose transparency rules on Big Tech” and legislation that “scraps Section 230’s current approach.” He favors “reforms that prohibit discrimination against core political viewpoints,” which he says “would track the approach taken in a social media law passed in Texas.”

In response, Russian President Vladimir Putin has formally lowered his nation’s standards for when nuclear strikes can be ordered.

In response to Russia’s nuclear deterrent policy, Germany’s foreign minister, Annalena Baerbock, stated “… Germany in particular made the mistake back then, especially politically, of allowing itself to be intimidated by this fear and, above all, not listening to its partners, especially our Eastern European partners, who made it clear at the time: We must not rely on promises from the Kremlin. There is probably no group that has caused more terror for Americans than the cartels. This is why it is odd that our government has yet to label them as a terrorist organization and implement policies that benefit them in some of the most evil ways.

The cartels would not be able to run their criminal organizations in America if the government did their job. That is why Homan claims the new administration will treat these people like the scum they are, as “criminal cartels in Mexico have killed more Americans than every terrorist organization in the world combined.” This means you should “Take 911 and times it by a hundred.”

The Mexican cartels commit the most evil crimes known to humanity and it’s unfathomable how they are still operating. It’s also unsettling that they can make a profit in America because the government had the power to shut them down yesterday.

President-Elect Donald Trump confirmed the “rumor” that he will be declaring a national emergency on day one, and he will use the military to deport the most dangerous illegal aliens while also using the military to combat the drug cartels on the border.

The main argument against deporting illegals comes from the MSM, who makes the argument that without illegal aliens “who will pick the crops?” The apologetic is not unsimilar to the argument made in favor of keeping slavery in America before the Civil War. Former Senior Trump Official Ken Cuccinelli thinks “using the military” will drive illegal migrant numbers “into the dirt.”

Once again, leftists in the media are wondering how the country will go on if deportations of illegal immigrants take place and they lose what they see as their imported servant class.

CNN Business Reporter Matt Egan incredibly warned viewers that if President-elect Donald Trump successfully deports illegal aliens, someone else will have to labor in the fields. During the Nov. 18 edition of Inside Politics with Dana Bash, Egan claimed that 41% of farm workers are “unauthorized” and 1.7 million people in the “food supply chain” are “undocumented.” Rather than show any concern for unemployed Americans, let alone the out-of-control humanitarian crisis, Egan chose to focus on whether deporting them would cause higher food prices. “One farmer in Michigan told me that mass deportations would be, quote, devastating to the AG economy because there just would not be enough people to pick the crops,” Egan said.
