The government is planning to put an end to the spread of new HIV/AIDS infections in Cambodia by 2028 through its “National Policy to End AIDS and Sustainability AIDS Programme 2023-2028”.
Chhim Khindareth, Secretary-General of the National AIDS Authority (NAA), said yesterday that the new national policy was approved by Prime Minister Hun Manet and was officially launched on March 15.
Khindareth said that there are three main objectives to the new policy.
He said the first objective is to reduce the number of new infections to less than one person per day, or fewer than 200 people per year. The second is to reduce the number of deaths caused by HIV/AIDS to fewer than 200 per year. The third is to eliminate the stigma of HIV/AIDS and the widespread discrimination against those who suffer from the disease.
