… The Talladega County area is the latest in Alabama to be overtaken by concerns over Haitian immigrants, with residents demanding answers from elected officials, urged on by stories shared on social media and elsewhere.
But as with other Alabama communities seeing Haitian immigration, the stories don’t link up with reality.
One city council member told Fox News Digital that residents fear their town is becoming another Springfield – which has been a flashpoint in the 2024 presidential election because of wild stories about Haitian immigrants, since discredited, shared by former President Donald Trump and running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance.
City officials estimate there are as many as 60 Haitians in the city – nowhere near the 15,000 now estimated to live in Springfield, Ohio, a mostly white, blue-collar city of about 59,000.
The 2023 Census puts Sylacauga’s total population at a little more than 12,000; about 64% of its residents are white.
