Hurricane Milton struck the west coast of Florida late Wednesday, October 9, 2024. Before it struck the coast, multiple tornadoes touched down, with one tornado reported killing 5 citizens. The storm surge appears to have been mercifully less than expected. So far, 12 are confirmed dead, but that number is expected to rise. 3 million people are reported without power.

The Tampa Bay Rays said they’re in no hurry to determine to damage to their ballpark, Tropicana Field, inflicted by Hurricane Milton.
Nearly all the panels were blown off the domed stadium’s roof last night or this morning as the storm passed through.
“Our priority is supporting our community and our staff. We are fortunate and grateful that no one was hurt by the damage to our ballpark last night,” the team said in a statement this afternoon.
“Over the coming days and weeks, we expect to be able to assess the true condition of Tropicana Field. In the meantime, we are working with law enforcement to secure the building.”
