A recent story in Politico provides yet another example of how K Street lobbying works — with the former serving as the free publicity arm of the latter. The publication ran a story about hospitals purportedly incurring large losses without including any explanation of or justification for its claims. If there’s a more obvious way to shill for the organizations potentially paying thousands of dollars for subscriptions to one’s publication, I have yet to see it.
At issue in the article: two Medicaid-related provisions of last year’s budget reconciliation bill. The first one involves provider taxes, which most states assess on various groups of medical practitioners (including hospitals) as a fancy way of attracting additional federal matching dollars from Washington. The second involves state-directed payments, supplemental payments that Medicaid programs make — often to hospitals, and often with the state share of the payments financed via provider taxes or similar budgetary gimmicks designed to shift funding from the states to Washington.
The Politico article predicts catastrophe for hospitals:
Hospitals thought losing hundreds of billions in Medicaid funding through GOP-led cuts last year was bad. But coming regulations from the Trump administration could slash their funding even deeper than Congress did. Two recently proposed rules from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services [CMS] would cost hospitals hundreds of billions of dollars more, hospital executives told Politico. …
Hospitals say CMS’ rules restricting state taxes and payments go further than what Congress intended. Hospitals expected to lose $340 billion through 2034 after Congress passed the One Big, Beautiful Bill Act last year. If the rules are finalized as proposed, they would generate $756 billion in savings to the federal government and $265 billion in savings to states through 2035. Or as hospitals see it, they’re losing $681 billion more than they expected.

Beijing local government authorities on Sunday announced a complete ban on the possession of drones within the Chinese capital, citing security concerns.
The new prohibitions are set to go into effect on November 15.
They further tighten regulations on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) imposed by the local communist government earlier this year. Beijing is widely known for boasting the most rigorous of restrictions on drones in all of China.
Per AFP, the new restrictions prohibit individuals from possessing or storing drones, as well as transporting any of its components into Beijing. The flying of drones in Beijing airspace will only be allowed for exceptional circumstances, such as emergencies or “counter-terrorism.”
Existing owners of drone devices in Beijing have until the November 15 deadline to dispose of their devices or move them out of the Chinese capital. Failure to comply with reportedly result in fines and the confiscation of the UAVs.

I am sending my greetings from the State of Rhode Island, until about three years ago, known as the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. But the of the state was changed as part of the mad DEI dash post George Floyd, even though historically ‘plantations’ did not have to do with slavery in Rhode Island, it meant something very different.
There was a mass virtue signaling push, which also came to be in our CLE rules. So in 2023, I believe it was at the instigation of the Rhode Island Bar DEI committee, who knows what they actually do, but the Rhode Island Supreme Court issued a proposal and opened it for comment to change our CLE rules, which are regulated by the Supreme Court in Rhode Island, to require of the 10 mandatory credits that one of them be in diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Programs at colleges and universities are incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion, or DEI, principles into artificial intelligence research and education, a watchdog group report found.
The Defending Education investigation highlights AI hubs at schools, including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of California Berkeley, Columbia University, Virginia State University, and Morgan State University. Defending Education argues that these programs could influence how AI is developed and used as educators increasingly adopt the technology.
According to the watchdog group, some universities embed concepts such as “algorithmic bias,” “social good,” and “equity” into their AI initiatives.
“Algorithmic bias is associated with the claim that AI systems are typically created by white or Asian men, and as a result, the answers that AI systems may provide to students or educators will be influenced by these specific white and Asian men who created them,” Defending Education states.
For example, the UC Berkeley AI Research Lab hosts an initiative that aims to “to drive critical research, innovation and collaboration towards responsible and equitable AI.”
The preliminary guidelines published by Microsoft essentially state that AI models should remain under human control, and that any models that cannot be contained must be rejected.

The Canadian Armed Forces has issued a new directive barring chaplains and other military personnel from mentioning God, Jesus, or other religion-specific language during mandatory public events. Military Personnel Instruction 03/26, Spiritual Reflections in Military Settings, was issued on July 29, 2026, by the Chief of Military Personnel. It states that chaplains “must instead offer a spiritual reflection” when prayers or religious observances are requested at official government events that members are expected or required to attend.
The policy applies to graduation parades, change-of-command ceremonies, ship commissionings, honours ceremonies, mess dinners, and Remembrance Day commemorations. At such events, chaplains acting as representatives of the Armed Forces rather than their own faith traditions must not use words, actions, or symbols specific to a spiritual or faith tradition.
The Department of National Defence told Canadian Catholic News that the instruction was intended to clarify the responsibilities of commanders, chaplains, and all members in responding to personnel’s moral and spiritual needs. The department also said it was intended to align military policy with the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the Supreme Court of Canada’s 2015 ruling in Mouvement laïque québécois v. Saguenay. The ruling found that a municipal council’s practice of opening meetings with prayer breached the state’s duty of religious neutrality.

“A black man is a holdout juror,” King responded. “Well, I have to sit with that for just a second.” She was apparently devastated to learn that a black man would try to enforce the law.
Another attempt to legalize euthanasia in Britian has failed after a 286 to 270 vote defeated the latest bill. The legislation began the practice of euthanasia the same as many other laws, targeting only those with minimal diagnosed time to live, then quickly expanding the “allowable” reasons.

Back in March, James O’Keefe released an exposé showing an operation to pay off homeless people on Skid Row to forge the signatures of other voters in order to rack up enough names for getting certain ballot petitions approved. Petition circulators were offering homeless Angelenos between two and three bucks for the forgeries. The fraud operation had lists of registered voters (including addresses) and told each homeless person which name to assume and exactly what to write for the ballot petitions. Bill Essayli, first assistant U.S. attorney for the Central District of California, revealed that one of the individuals running a fraud operation in the video was 47-year-old James Brass of Victorville.

Brass and two of the petition circulators who worked for him, Courtney Price of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jateisha Herron of Boron, Calif., are now facing charges.
Among the shocking quotes in the O’Keefe video were “If you mess up, I can’t get paid,” “You’re Robert,” “You only writing what I’m telling you to write,” and “You’re asking a lot of questions, you scaring me.” The individual who made the last statement also informed the undercover journalist that she could make another three dollars by going a little ways up the street and finding another fraud operation just like his. All of this is a violation of California’s election code Division 18, Chapter 7, Article II, Section 18613, which states clearly, “Every person who subscribes to any initiative, referendum, or recall petition a fictitious name, or who subscribes thereto the name of another, or who causes another to subscribe such a name to that petition, is guilty of a felony and is punishable by imprisonment pursuant to subdivision (h) of Section 1170 of the Penal Code for two, three, or four years.”
Hence the indictment against Brass, Herron, and Price. Brass was set to make his first court appearance on Thursday afternoon, according to Essayli. “All three defendants are charged with one count of conspiracy to commit identity fraud in furtherance of a state felony. Brass and Price are charged with an additional count of identity fraud in furtherance of a state felony,” Essayli said.
He added that the criminals’ “conduct undermines the confidence voters have in our election systems. We will vigorously investigate and charge anyone involved in corrupting our elections.”
Given the scope of the fraud network that O’Keefe identified in his video, and the fact that Essayli already promised a major election fraud crackdown, the likelihood is that federal authorities will soon be arresting and charging other individuals too.

Pakistan delivered a warning to Iran on Wednesday that if Tehran’s terrorist proxies in Yemen, the Houthis, continue attacking cities and oil facilities in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan may be obliged to intervene under its defense pact with the Saudis.
Pakistan gave notice to Iran the day after Houthi insurgents launched drone and missile attacks against four cities in Saudi Arabia, damaging oil infrastructure and wounding dozens of civilians.
Saudi forces, working with the internationally-recognized government of Yemen, responded with airstrikes and ground action against the Houthis, who captured Yemen’s capital city of Sanaa and much other territory in 2014.
In a television interview on Wednesday, Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said that further Houthi attacks could trigger the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement, a pact Pakistan signed with Saudi Arabia and Turkey in August. The pact includes a mutual defense commitment similar to NATO Article V.
“An aggression on one country will be considered an aggression on all three countries,” Asif said. “There is no ambiguity or doubt. Unprovoked aggression or spillover into Saudi Arabia will definitely make this agreement operational.”
A senior diplomatic source told Reuters the Pakistani government conveyed this message to Tehran privately within the past 24 hours, and advised the Iranians to pull the Houthis back from attacking Saudi Arabia. The response from Tehran was reportedly: “Iran does not control the Houthis.”
The Indiana Supreme Court on Thursday issued an order setting aside a determination by the Indiana Recount Commission and declaring incumbent state Senator Spencer Deery the winner of the Republican primary for Senate District 23. The court found that Deery won by just three votes.
“Indiana Code section 3-12-1-12 makes a qualifying ballot legally countable despite a defect caused by an election officer. Having considered the written submissions and having heard the arguments of counsel, a majority of the Court votes to set aside the Commission’s final determination certifying that Paula Copenhaver received the higher number of votes for the Senate District 23 Republican primary,” the one-page order, which was signed by Chief Justice Loretta H. Rush, stated.
“The Court further orders the Election Commission to declare that Spencer Deery received 6,335 votes and Paula Copenhaver received 6,332 votes in the State Senate District 23 Republican primary and to recertify its results.”
The order takes effect immediately and vacates the stay order issued on September 3.

A group called “Evangelicals for a Better Future” has poured money into advertising in support of Democrat U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico. The group released this glossy ad painting Talarico as a unifier who gets “What Makes a Texan.”
While this PAC (political action committee) does not coordinate with the Talarico campaign, it appears to dovetail with the candidate’s sudden pivot to the center. Talarico recently appeared on right-leaning and right-of-center outlets like Fox News and News Nation to proclaim that his words and record are being misconstrued by his opponent, TX Attorney General and Republican nominee for U.S. Senate, Ken Paxton.

“I’m asking you to pretend that I’m on the ballot. I’m on the ballot. I’m on the ballot. Just one more time, because if we lose, you’re going to lose your border, you’re going to lose your tax cuts, you’re going to lose your safety and security, you’re going to lose your wealth,” Trump said.
It’s an important ask, given how Republicans have struggled to turn out voters when Trump is not literally on the ballot. But while Trump’s name may not literally appear on the ballot, it is for all intents and purposes next to every single “R” on the ticket.
Trump’s agenda is on the ballot. But more importantly, so are his accomplishments.
Over the past two years, Trump has used his authority to shut down the southern border, restore immigration enforcement, dismantle federal DEI programs, and reverse Biden’s ridiculous definition of sex, among other things. Congressional Republicans have funded some of that agenda, like immigration enforcement, and passed Trump’s signature One Big Beautiful Bill, which adds incentives for states to crack down on fraud and waste while also introducing no tax on tips and overtime for certain employment sectors.

Joe DiGenova, a former US Attorney under Reagan tapped to oversee the Spygate probe in Florida after the DOJ removed a Deep State prosecutor who was stonewalling and slow-walking charges against John Brennan has resigned.
ABC, AP and Politico reported diGenova has resigned.
Earlier this year, the Justice Department removed Maria Medetis, a career federal prosecutor who was slow-walking charges against John Brennan.
DiGenova resigned after five months at the Justice Department.
It is unclear why Joe diGenova resigned. The Gateway Pundit reached out to Joe diGenova for comment.
“I did in fact resign,” Joe diGenova told The Associated Press, calling it an “honor and a privilege” to serve in Trump’s DOJ.
A Trump loyalist who had been tapped to oversee a sprawling and controversial DOJ conspiracy investigation targeting political foes of President Donald Trump abruptly resigned Thursday, sources familiar with the matter told ABC News.
Joe diGenova submitted his resignation to Attorney General Todd Blanche amid what sources described as growing frustrations from Trump and senior DOJ officials regarding his work on the so-called “grand conspiracy” investigation based out of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Florida.
Sources said diGenova had pitched himself to the president as someone who could potentially ramp up the conspiracy investigation, which thus far has resulted in no criminal prosecutions despite dozens of subpoenas issued over the past year to various officials involved in past investigations of Trump.
Oil prices jumped to their highest levels since May amid renewed fighting in the Persian Gulf and investor concerns that the war in Iran will persist longer than previously thought.
Brent crude futures crossed above $107 a barrel and WTI futures neared $102. The possibility of a near-term contraction in oil supplies and a protracted war has been pushing up energy prices for several weeks, with the climb accelerating this week.
Yields on bonds issued by the U.S. government climbed to new multiyear highs. The yield on 10-year U.S. Treasuries climbed 0.082 percent to 4.922 percent. That matched the post-pandemic highs hit amid raging inflation and Federal Reserve interest rate increases aimed at restoring price stability.
Shorter-term Treasury yields also rose, reflecting increased expectations for rate increases from the Fed. The yield on the 2-year Treasury rose sharply, climbing 0.114 percent to 4.541 percent.
Yields on government bonds around the world climbed. Yields on government bonds issued by Germany, the U.K., France, and Japan were higher.
Bond yield rise when bond prices fall. A rising yield reflects investors requiring higher returns for holding government securities. This can be due to rising inflation expectations, rising competition from other securities when investors expect faster growth and higher returns on stocks or corporate bonds, or a more aggressive monetary policy.
The major stock indexes in the U.S. were all down by around six-tenths of a percentage point on Thursday morning. Nine of the eleven sectors of the S&P 500 declined, with consumer staples the only one to rise. The tech heavy communications services sector was flat.

A federal judge appointed by former President Barack Obama was called out on social media this week by several legal commentators after she used a juvenile slang term in one of her rulings.
A Washington, D.C. Circuit panel of judges ruled Tuesday that a data-sharing agreement between the IRS and Immigration and Customs Enforcement to crack down on illegal aliens is illegal, according to Courthouse News.
The three-judge panel, all Obama appointees, upheld another federal judge’s decision to stay the IRS from disclosing more addresses to ICE after it had already given the agency 47,000 records.
U.S. Circuit Judge Cornelia Pillard, who wrote the court’s 32-page opinion, was criticized for using the term “weak sauce” when describing the IRS’ argument. The term is slang for something with no substance or foundation.
“The IRS also asserts that the preliminary injunction is ‘highly unusual and harmful’ because it requires the IRS to provide the district court with ‘prior notice of criminal investigatory activity.’” Pillard wrote in the decision. “That argument is weak sauce where the district court has permitted the IRS to file any necessary notifications ‘under seal,’ thereby shielding any criminal investigative activity from disclosure.”
William Shipley, a former DOJ prosecutor, said on social media that this verbiage was an “embarrassment” and will be cited in future cases, diminishing the court’s credibility.

Last Friday, a shootout took place at the Old Town Manassas First Friday block party. About 1,000 people were downtown when 19-year-old Xavier Wanzer and 21-year-old Tasheem Douglas exchanged fire. Douglas fired at Wanzer and hit 16-year-old Ashley Intihar. She was an innocent bystander who died from her injuries.
Wanzer then returned fire along with Talib Davis. Douglas was hit in the leg and buttocks. He is hospitalized and under arrest.
All three of the suspects have criminal records, and all of them were out on bond or on a summons. Douglas is a convicted felon and had prior arrests and charges including trespassing, assault and battery, brandishing a firearm, and other firearm-related offenses. He was last arrested in May and had an alleged probation violation in April.
“He is also out on bond from Warren County. He has severe charges pending here. He has been released on bond, yet he came back to this area and committed violence against our community. That should be frustrating to me, that should be frustrating for you,” said Chief Doug Keen.

Droves of Netflix subscribers are announcing they have canceled their memberships after the streaming giant made a “neck injury” joke on the one-year anniversary of the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
“Nearly did himself a neck injury,” Netflix’s official UK and Ireland X account quipped in a Thursday caption, sharing a photo of a male character from The Gentlemen apparently straining his neck to get a better view of a woman.
The joke about a man having a “neck injury,” however, was posted on September 10, the one-year anniversary of the assassination of Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot in the neck while trying to have an open and respectful dialogue with a student at Utah Valley University.
Viewers were quick to notice the veiled jab, resulting in a slew of social media users taking to the comment section of Netflix UK & Ireland’s post to announce they are canceling their subscriptions.
“Cancel Netflix completely,” Jack Posobiec — conservative commentator and a close friend of Kirk’s — demanded.
“Bye,” one X user commented, sharing a screenshot of an email he recently received form Netflix informing him that his membership had been successfully canceled.
“Go to hell. Motherfuckers,” a third X user declared.
The popular conservative X account Libs of TikTok, meanwhile, revealed that her subscription had already been canceled, writing, “I’m so glad I canceled my subscription. You guys are sick.
“Years ago Netflix brought me in to discuss doing Faith based films. At the end of our meeting, the executives looked at me and said ‘we understand that there’s an audience for the kind of movies you make, we just don’t know why.’ These people are sick,” actor Kevin Sorbo disclosed.
“The worst people!” Graham Allen echoed. “No wonder NETFLIX stock has TUMBLED!”
Another X user shared a screenshot showing Netflix’s stock plummeting, writing, “Keep going.”
“You guys are sick, demented bastards, I’ve had enough,” another proclaimed, also sharing his Netflix cancelation email.
Another X user simply asked, “What the fuck is wrong with you people?”
“When your subscription service fails, this post will come back in millions of views to mock you,” another surmised, adding, “Bless you Charlie. I am sorry these people are so cruel.”
